the baltimore-washington parkway. back to andrea. this morning police are investigating an early-morning hit and run crash. it has left one person dead. it a developing story. armando trull is live in southeast with the latest. >> reporter: here's the situation at stanton road. traffic is moving smoothly in and outbound of the district. there is no accidents here right now. that was not the case a few hours ago. around 2:30 a.m., police say a man was walking on stanton road and basically crossing suitland parkway when a vehicle that was traveling at a high rate of speed inbound on suitland parkway hit that man. the impact was so severe it basically hurled the body around 40 feet and in to the side of suitland parkway. police do not know who that man was. he was not carrying i.d. or if he had i.d. the i.d.

was knocked away from the body because of the impact. they also don't know who was driving the car. all they know is the car is a dark blue or black vehicle, small in size. and they believe the vehicle may have some windshield damage and the passenger's side mirror maybe broken off. they don't have any tag information on that car. that's the story here on stanton road and suitland parkway. reporting live, armando trull for 9 news now and wusa9.com. >> the mostal service is investigating the apparent explosion of a mailbox. they want to know what e us it. this is a breaking e story we brought you last night at 11:00. it is at the corner of 49th and meade streets. it happened in one of the big blue drop boxes. to one was hurt but there are plenty of questions as to what happened. so far no hints in to the investigation. dc delegate eleanor holmes norton plans to visit the munitions cleanup site in the

years old a black man was walking across stanton road, trying to cross suitland parkway when he was struck by a car that was traveling inbound in to the city on suitland parkway at a high rate of speed. they don't know who the man is. he was not carrying identification or whatever identification he had was basically lost during the accident. they don't know who was driving the car. they know it was a dark blue or possibly black car and they believe it will have wind shield damage and the passenger's side mirror will be torn off. that's about all they know. and that is what the situation is right now on suitland parkway and stanton road. live armando trull for 9 news now and wusa9.com. transit union leaders are pushing metro to reinstate a bus driver. she was suspend for talking on cell phone and threatened with being fired. a rider snapped a photo of the driver a couple of weeks ago. union officials insist she

i think the best way we are going to get results in washington to hear your views. i learn from these exchanges. i get helpful information to me. >> reporter: so many people are weighing in on-line the it department for congress is warning servers may be slowed down by the rush of incoming e- mails. an air traffic controller and a supervisor are suspended following last week's deadly midair collision in new york city. the federal aviation administration says the controller was talking on the phone when a small plane collided with a helicopter. the investigators say the supervisor was out of the building at the time. the crash killed nine people but investigators say there's no reason to believe the employee's actions contributed to the crash but they call their actions unacceptable. in california, wildfires have driven about 2400 people from their homes. the fires are burning in the santa cruz mountains in the calfenport area. so far no one has been hurt and there are no reports of any homes destroyed, but thousands
