that's so much more disturbing. >> the smoke was thick at times that police shut down kings valley road. and with no fire hydrants in this rural part of the county, the fire crews were on edge. they might have traveled to some occupied homes to where the people were sleeping and could have been tragic. >> reporter: now that team of arson and police investigators met for several hours this afternoon. what we've been able to find out so far and there will be increases for them tonight. they will also have the fire crews watching these still smoldering piles of hay to make sure there are no flare-ups

overnight. now, they are really hoping to get a tip from the public and they have an arson hotline set up and ready to go for anyone who might have seen or heard anything tonight. that number is 240-777-2263. derek, back to you. >> all right, angie goff, thank you. tonight, firefighters say a man who fell from a building is alive, thanks to a twist of fate. the accident happened this morning at a construction site at k and first street northeast. the worker was eight floors up when he fell down a utility shaft. just before he fell, some plywood went down the shoot. that plywood locked the shaft and broke the worker's fall only about 15 feet. he's being treated at an area hospital tonight. a dozen workers are dead and 64 others missing after an explosion at a power plant in siberia. that is the biggest in russia and located inside a dam only half a mile long. they are searching for

welcome back. let's reset some of the top stories tonight. they are delaying out there at montgomery county. an inspector found a cracked rail from the friendship heights out there in the stations this afternoon. that crack has been temporarily

repaired, but the trains, they are still moving gingerly through that area. cooler repairs will be done through tonight. a federal court ruling declares furloughs of the unionized counties out there unconstitutional. employees of the police fires and the sheriff departments lost 80 hours last fall. they were for all county employees. and sources tell nine news now that they expect the county to appeal this afternoon's ruling. and montgomery county are looking for the person or people who started several fires out there this morning. reports started coming in at 3 a.m. and they continued until afternoon. and half a dozen bails of hay and nearly a dozen mailboxes were tarted. vandals caused thousands of dollars of damage to the nonprofit group over the weekend. the organization helped low-income boys and men with life skills. and now, it needs some help. here's lindsay matthis with

gunman who killed three women and a health club there. he shot himself earlier this month, leaving the estate to the school as an estimated $225,000. the owners of the club where he opened fire say they plan to sue his estate for damages. two young children, abducted in phoenix have been found, unharmed. the 2-year-old boy and 11-month-old boy were drop off at the house. they think that it was part of a home invasion robbery and a neighbor describes what he saw. >> i hear two kids screaming, i looked out the curtain and saw two babies out there, that's it. i called 911. >> the children were taken by four suspects and driven away before being found about five hours later. so far, no arrests.

they are trying to stop any delay for the arrival of the vaccine h1n1 area. the factories that get the vaccines into syringes say it may take them longer than first expected. the department was predebitting 120 million -- predicting 120 million doses by object 15. now they are expecting just 45 million. meanwhile, a rockville company is producing their own experiment of the h1n1 vaccine. they said it takes just weeks to make their vaccine. gnaw will not be approved and ready for the commercial use for at least a couple of years. the hpv vaccine designs to prevent certain cancers and the certain controversies ever since approved back in 2006. for now, a brand new study taking a closer look at the adverse effects that might be in the first 23 million doses. the digital correspondents, they are explaning this one.

all right, we're looking at some thunderstorms off to the north and the east. and severe thunderstorm warnings out there at 6:30 and until 6:15. here's your forecast first, the next three days, they will remain in the forecast. in fact, a better chance for storms in the immediate metro area tomorrow and thursday. 90 tomorrow, 91 on thursday. and 90 on friday. again, 98 today out there for your record high. tonight, partly cloudy and muggy. some thunderstorms, lows in the 70s. winds are northwest at 10. we'll show you the live doppler 9,000. we have two areas of the storms. only three areas of the storm. this is running right along 70. this storm, just exiting baltimore and then this storm prompted the warning around there. now, look at the county, the warning is over. we'll pinpoint this storm just no the north out there. heavy rain, no hail reported with this, moving away from that area. heading towards here, right along 70, headed out there. and up towards the mill. now, we'll pan back down. south and east. this is the one in a rumble
