still 90. that is saying something. thank you, topper. late this afternoon, a federal judge ruled that prince george's county to furlough their unionized public safety employees last fall, they were unconstitutional. and the judge said that the police officers and firefighters had to be paid their back wages, but the county, they made that furlough decision because they were simply running out of dough. we got this response from the county a little bit ago." to comply with the court's opinion, we will have massive layoffs. "in order to protect their lives and this family, we'll be following an appeal to remedy this irresponsible decision. this story still very much developing. " we'll have much more coming up tonight at 11. the white house is saying that the president intends to stand their ground on the healthcare reform idea. and it said that his goal is to foster the choices and the competition in the private health insurance markets by having a public government run auction. the secretary of health and human services, caused a bit of a stir over the weekend, after she said that the government's

role in running coverage system was not the "essential elements of the overhaul." well today, the white house is trying to set the record straight. >> we have a goal of fostering choices out there and the competition. in a private health insurance market. and the president, they prefer the public auction as a way of doing that. if others have ideas, we're open to those ideas and willing to listen to those details. that's what the president has said for months. >> republicans are almost uniformly opposed to that public option. >> the president is pleased with some progress, getting the israelis and palestinians back to the negotiating table. the president met with the egyptian president at the white house today. and now he says he is hoping that the meeting will foster better relations between these two countries. the u.s. ties to egypt have become strained over to their human right's record. and political columnists, a central figure in the leak

scandal, they dieded today. he was diagnosed with the brain tumor last summer after striking a pedestrian downtown d.c. with their corvette and drove away. he passed away at his home here in d.c. with the wife of 47 years by their side. and he is a noted columnist and journalist for many years, 78 years old. a shopkeeper had a startling beginning to his day, finding a body in the pizza joint. the body was found inside this pizza mark on the 2300 lock of forth street in northeast. right now, police, they would only tell us that the body is that of the adult male i should say. they were working to identify and determine how the man died. a local nonprofit was damaged over the week. vandals, they broke into the life pieces to masters pieces northeast. helping them get their life skills together. because of this program that is based around art, the vandals were able to use paints, drums, other items to do about $10,000

here in d.c. for tonight, partly cloudy and muggy. some thunderstorms, at least until about the midnight hour. some temperatures in the low 70s. and sunsets now before 8:00. live doppler 9,000. no warnings out there in the immediate metro area. but one batch of thunderstorms have rolled through, across the bay into that area, a second batch that has developed, crust behind. we'll kind of zoom in. nothing severe. but this is pretty heavy rainfall just east of town as you're headed out here and 214. out towards out here and eventually 21 here -- 214 here. heavy rains, then another storm, just south of it from around forest field to andrews, over towards clinton. this is moving generally east. these lines, indicating movement. they will cross over five and produce heavy rain there and eventually head up there. if you are out there in the northern counties, these storms will be the picture for the next hour or two.

all right, back to the computer. temperaturewise, first, we'll talk about the satellite picture and the radar combined. we'll zoom in later on. and we're looking at a lot of showers and thunderstorms down to the south. this is actually sort of what's left. picking up poseture out -- moisture out there and thankfully, it is going to keep bill on out to sea as it produces showers and storms on friday and saturday. 83 out here and 85 i have yen that and 85 in woodbridge. partly cloudy very warm. slight chance of a shower in the morning, 70s and 80s. better chance out there, better temperatures on out there. a few more clouds to keep the temperatures down just a bit. check out the satellite picture of bill. some massive storms. good news, it'll miss barbados, the islands out here, san juan, puerto rico, and also the do min cans. and the bad news, it'll become a

category four. the track is still on target. for what we have seen them talking about yesterday. just west of bermuda and east of the eastern united states. that's good. winds by 2 p.m. on saturday and 115 miles per hour. so we're still going to get some rip tides and heavy currents from the storm if they take this track. but the high winds and the heavy rain bands, they will stay off course. now one thing we look at when we talk about the track of the storm, e pearlly -- especially three or four or five days out, the computer models, some differents with them. they are all doing the same thing. well, the good news is that with bill, they are doing the same thing. and remember, the closer these lines are to the, the more agreements amongst the computer models. really, it's pretty close in agreement. yes, a couple of storms to take a couple of computers to the west, but that still would miss the eastern u.s. and that is a

good thing. they are possible tomorrow. in their own forecast. 90 out there in middleburg and there, even downtown, we're talking about 90 or 88 out there. next seven days? thunderstorms, wednesday, thursday, friday, temperatures around 90 -f aofp day -- each day. but that is the front and the front, they are leaving this in the 80s. we're in good shape, behind the front, temperatures in the 80s. lows in the 60s. the front should still protect it somewhat from bill. >> now, let's say that cold front doesn't come as you expect somehow and they would slow down. >> right. >> and building just west. that would be a problem for us, major proportions. >> even if it takes the current course, if you're trying to get that last weekend of summer, there will be rip currents at shore. >> let's get to our weird news file. a bakery in detroit, passing the world record's largest cup cake, happening at the annual dream cruise. you'll need a big tpwhrasz or something to get this bad boy
