machine, pry it open and make off with the cash within seconds, speeding away in a blue truck. >> i'm blown away. really. i mean in broad daylight. >> reporter: a few minutes later they strike again as frank's liquor store around the corner. >> it is ashame it happens in broad daylight and nothing can be done about it. >> reporter: since one robbery was in dc and the other in prince georges county both departments are investigating. clues are starting to surface from camera and store surveillance video. >> after looking at the tape, sources tell 9 news now it appears the atm bandits were equiped with firefighting gear, mainly a crowbar, a hydro ram and appeared to be wearing know max hood like firefighters use under their gear. prince georges county tells similar gear was reported missing from an fire engine that went to the shop for repairs in april. that information has been turned over to police

investigators. >> you have to be careful and keep eyes open audrey barnes, 9 news now and wusa9.com. >> audrey tells us it was business as usual at both of those businesses today but neither have replaced the busted atms. an update on a scare at kent island high school. the team is back on its feel feet today after 17 players and coaches were rushed to the hospital on thursday. queens anne emergency management say heat illness likely cause but administrators say the case is not closed. ey wl ilask health officials to check water and food used by the teams. >> we had all of our teams out here practicing yesterday. no other teams had a problem. and that team really had only practiced 45 minutes when all of this occurred. so that's why we are looking at other sources. >> reporter: all the player and the coaches are okay now. the team plans to scrimmage tomorrow. the first day of school for dc public schools is less than

72 hours away, but parents at john boroughs listen elementary school are outraged because they say their school will not be ready by monday. the project was supposed to start as soon as school got out in june but parents say they didn't see work until three weeks ago. >> there were no ceiling tiles anywhere in the ceilings when you enter the building. you had electrical wires, hanging. no lights in place. it basically looked like a brand new renovation project had just started yesterday when i went in there. >> reporter: the school system issued a statement that reads in part. our construction crews are putting the finishing touch on several projects and in most cases are doing deep cleaning of the facilities. nowhere in that statement did it say that school would not start on time. a quick side note. students from prince georges county, frederick and spotsylvania counties also return to class on monday.

a montgomery county police officer has been indict on charges that he lied in court. the perjury case against officer deena hoffman rests largely on a videotape that conflicts with her sworn testimony. >> passersby were worried when they saw george sleeping in the back of this car in may of last year and called police to check on him. after the officer arrived the videotape shows her approaching from the rear passenger side. but under oath at trial, officer hoffman tells a different story that she was behind the wheel. that is her attorney. >> she testified the defendant was sitting in the driver's side of the vehicle. >> reporter: that gives her a

chance to change her testimony. >> and i asked her, okay, now isn't it true when you first arrived there that she was in the backseat on the passenger's side. her answer, no. >> reporter: and a moment later. >> are you absolutely sure. >> answer yes. >> she was arrested and charged with drunk driving. when the judge saw the video you have just seen he dropped the charges. >> should not have been arrested or have had to hire me. he should not have had to go through this. >> reporter: police investigated officer hoffman leading to the perjury indictment against her union issued a statement saying he is innocent until proven guilty. >> this is a rare exception, not the rule in montgomery county. i think the department is filled with officers who do a great job and are trustworthy. >> reporter: officer hoffman is on leave pending her own trial where witnesses against her will raise their hands and

job. in a statement she said the board of trustees fired her for failing to terminate a well- respected african-american public defender for no reason. she said she had been asked to perform other unlawful acts she refused to do. topper is here to talk about the forecast. one moment it is sunny outside and then it looks ominous it. >> did. it was dark and just -- >> unbelievable. despite the clouds still hit 94 which tied the record high. we are looking at some severe weather to the west. we are not under a watch but plenty of warnings out there. jefferson county in west virginia, clark county and louding county until 6:30. forecast first. the next three days, showers are going to linger tomorrow. if not most of the day, all day. 85 degrees for a high. it should be dry in time for the redskins game. nice on sunday. maybe a shower. but a nice day 85. 84 on monday. and also a nice day.

that's tonight. showers and thunderstorms, some heavy, muggy. low temperature 68 to 74. winds southwesterly at ten. we will go to live doppler 9000. we have had reports of some trees snapped off around berryville. this is a second line of showers and thunderstorms that is developing. we will watch this storm which is moving out of charles county in to prince georges county. we will focus on these storms. this has prompted the severe thunderstorm warnings. we have also reports of penny- sized hail and winds over 60 miles an hour this area. this is bluepoint month. this is route 7. it is headed to round hill and purceville. rainfall rates up to three inches an hour and penny size hail and damage or reported in berryville. it is clearing berryville right now but good rain. we will pan up to the panhandle of west virginia around jefferson county. you are under a severe thunderstorm warning and the storm is heading your way harpers ferry, probably some hail there. perhaps penny-size hail and

gusty winds. as it moves northeast ward, everything is moving northeast ward tonight at 20 s lemian hour. back to the computer we go. we will talk about the big picture. satellite picture, radar combined. kind of cool when you see a hurricane off shore and frontal system approaching the eastern seaboard, triggering showers and thunderstorms. we are looking at category two. it is not as strong as it was. already producing some showers and clouds across bermuda and they will close the airport tonight at 8:30. they plan to reopen it at 1:30 tomorrow afternoon. the second line of showers and thunderstorms rolling through. we talked about this earlier even though we are not under a watch we are not out of the woods and the second line is proof in the pudding. 83 woodbridge. 84 in fredericksburg. but again 94 today lefor a high 28 olney, 82 laurel. we cooled off a little bit. mostly cloudy. shower or thunderstorm is possible in the morning.

in fact early morning some could be hefty. 60s and 70s. winds northwesterly at ten. by afternoon, pacific mcnot as hot. here's your silver lining but a shower or thunderstorm is possible. highs near 85 and the winds northwesterly at ten. here's bill. winds 105 miles an hour. the gusts to 127. it still could increase to a category three as we get in to tomorrow early and late tonight. probably a category two occurring to the northeast as a category one we talked about rip currents over and over again and that will be a danger for our shore east new england could get hit with tropical storm force winds but as far as we are concerned rip currents are the big problem this weekend. next seven days, 85 tomorrow, showers and thunderstorms. we will be dry for the redskins game. should be dry for tailgating. close call with that. nice on sunday and monday. yes, we have a drop but mid-80s with a sprinkle not bad for august. mid-80s on tuesday. upper 80s on wednesday.
