thers been a steady stream of traffic coming and d out of there. the rain has cleared out and the traffic is smooth for no hopefuy llwewi get it moving. wi if you are going to the beach get up-to-the-minute alerts at wusa9.com. tonight, football players talk for the first time about a frightening scene yesterday during practice. about 15 of their number and their coaches at kent island high suddenly falling ill right there in practice and we still don't know what caused it. brittany moorhouse has the latest. >> within five minutes everyone started to drop to the ground and throwing up and getting sick. >> reporter: a dramatic end to what would have been an ordinary practice. >> it was hot outside and we went over and got water. and once we started to drink water everybody started to throw up. >> the twins relived the moment they knew something was terribly wrong, 45 minutes after practice began. he was rushed to the hospital

in an ambulance. >> they were checking my blood pressure the whole time, checking my pulse. >> reporter: meanwhile his brother was taken to anne arundel medical center. >> they were not freaking out that bad but at anne arundel they were quarantined in the er and stuff. >> reporter: 24 hours later and hospital workers are calling the cause probable heat exhaustion that is not convincing to players because two coaches an an injured athlete got sick sit thong sidelines. nevertheless they stayed out of the heat today. as for the water it is being tested. >> our coach, he already ordered 50 cases of bottled water and until they find out we will be drinking the bottled water. >> if they don't find out. >> i guess it is another story. >> not as far as mom is concerned. if they don't find out that is not good. we need to know. >> reporter: 9 news now and wusa9.com. >> the proctor family says they are impressed how the coaches have handled this and the boys say they will get out and practice the heat again if they

had a chance to do it. monday it is back to class for dc public schools but some parents at john bur are boroughs elementary school are outrage because they say the school doesn't seem to be ready. one parent shot this video of the inside and it speaks for itself. look at this bathroom. the modernization facilities has been overseeing a summer long renovation at the school but the project was supposed to start as soon as school got out in june and parents say they didn't see work until three weeks ago. >> there were no ceiling tiles anywhere in the ceilings when you enter the building. you had electrical wires hanging. there were no lights in place. it basically looked like a brand new renovation project had just started yesterday when i went in there. >> reporter: the school system issued a statement and it reads, in part, our construction crews are putting the finishing touches on several project and in most cases are doing deep cleaning

of the facilities. but nowhere in that statement did it say that school would not start on time. a followup on a judge who deflated a tire on a woman's car because she was parked in a restricted space at the courthouse. police in la plata have issued him a citation for a misdemeanor, tampering with an automobile. now they told us he let the air out because leaving notes on the windshield doesn't work. he has been suspended on sitting on criminal cases until the matter is resolved. a police officer has been indicted on charges that he lied under oath in court. her name is deena hoffman and the case involves a man that was arrested last year for drunken driving. at the trial the officer testified she found him behind the wheel of his car but check out the video. it shows hoffman approaching from the passenger's side and when she goes to look she finds him in the backseat.

today we spoke with the defense attorney. >> i asked her, okay, now isn't it true when you first arrived there that he was in the backseat on the passenger's side. her answer, no. >> well, the judge dismissed the case against her. as for the officer she's on leave pending the outcome of her trial. look at a robbery in progress. a clerk using his cell phone camera to take this video. two men prying open an atm, grabbing the cash and speeding away in a blue truck. this happened yesterday at the chevron station at burrows and minnesota avenue in northeast. minutes later, police say the same pair robbed a nearby liquor store. it appears the bandits were using firefighters equipment, a tool similar to a crowbar and the hoods they were we'ring, the prince georges county fire department says similar gear was reported missing from a fire engine that went in for repairs last april.

political columnist robert novak was remembered today as a man who was committed to faith almost achen ann his craft. people paid their tributes to him today. he died after battle with brain cancer that was diagnosed in july of last year. he was 78. the country's first homeland security chief said he was pressured to boost the terror alert level. tom ridge served under president bush and he said that former bush cabinet members, defense secretary donald rumsfeld and attorney general john ashcroft pushed him to raise the levels before the 2004 presidential election. he details his account in a forthcoming book called "the test of our times "and he wrote in the book, i wondered is this about security or politics. if you have been wondering about the cia outsourcing missions in afghanistan are true another former intelligence officer is saying yeah, they are.

he returned from a meeting with that former agent at the white house. >> neil livings stone not only served as a former intelligence officer but runs a firm providing logistical support in iraq and afghanistan. i sat down and posed the question is the cia using contractors to hunt al-qaeda and the taliban. his unequivocal answer, yes, they are and what's more they have been doing it for a while he says. >> obama is taking a much more antiseptic attitude with respect to how you get these guys but he is still doing the same thing. target these guys, kill them and move on. >> reporter: livingstone says the practice isn't new but a departure from the bush administration's tactics that used cia contractors to go after high value targets. >> they wanted one to put distance between themselves and if you will the cia and the actual act itself. and secondly they were short of

people. they had exhausted their manpower. >> reporter: so what does livingstone think of obama's shifting approach. >> my feeling is good for obama. obama gets it with respect to afghanistan. he is surging there. we're increasing our forces. he knows we have to go after the taliban there and in pakistan. and i think obama would really like to be the guy that brings osama bin laden's head home to america. >> reporter: livingstone says the cia practice of hiring contractors to carry out missions is not a new practice and he says it has been going on since the dawn of the agency and he says he and many current cia officers would like to see it done away with. >> he mr. livingstone may love barack obama but americans may be losing confidence in him. the "washington post" abc news
