members lost their lives. closer to home two people stabbed along a residential street in d.c. and one of them has died. it happened this afternoon along the 200 block of q street in northwest. police found two adults with stab wounds, one of them was pronounced dead at the hospital. now the second victim is expected to survive. no word yet on any arrests and what lead up to the stabbing. maryland's board of public works approved state budget cuts. those cuts are expected to save taxpayers $454 million but they will mean pink slips for more than 200 state employees and 160 of those jobs will be cut from the health department and the counties will lose $211 million in state funding, money that's used for everything from police salaries to road repaving. also approved today a five day shut down of maryland's state government along with widespread furloughs. now when it comes to those furloughs there are some state employees who will not be sharing the pain including lawmakers and judges and as you might imagine that's not going over so well with some state

11:15 pm
and welcome back. i'm meteoroligist topper shutt. in the next three days out of the gate, tomorrow not a bad day at all, upper 80s, slight chance of isolated storm. most of us will not see anything thursday. friday different story, showers
11:16 pm
and storms, not from danny but from the cold front. and that could impact the game. it could be a wet red skin game to watch on channel 9 and showers and storms possible on saturday depending on the track of danny. and that's going to really hinge on how close to shore it comes friday night and saturday morning. to the forecast overnight, partly cloudy not as comfortable. mid to upper 60s in the suburbs yes but low 70's downtown. temperatures right now pry marchly in the mid 70's, 75 in laurel, 75 in old town and also dumphreys, a little cooler out to the west, 73 at winchester and now for tomorrow morning, partly cloudy and warm, 70's and 80s, winds northeast early at 10, and by afternoon not a bad day, partly sunny, very warm. a slight chance, just a slight chance of an isolated thunderstorm, high temperatures in the upper 80s, winds easterly at 10 but if you'll decide to play golf thursday or friday, i'd pick thursday. all right, let's talk about the satellite picture, radar combined. see the showers, they are kind
11:17 pm
of now more tilted from west to east and that's an association from a frontal system running west to east as opposed to north-south and that influences our weather friday. that may end up giving us more rain than danny. danny has increased its intensity a little bit and it's still a tropical storm and it's about 670 miles south southeast of hattares and its movement is still off to the west northwest. as far as we're concerned the shower is pretty close but the front is really aligning itself west to east and slow to move down here, it will get close enough on friday to produce rain and showers. winds are 50 now, movements northwest at nine. could become a category one by friday evening and the track is still offshore and that's pretty far offshore for us but don't focus on the line. focus on this whole cone because that's possible particularly west of that line and by 8:00 saturday, looks like it's going to be very very close to just offshore martha's vineyard as a category one. this looks like southern new england much more than us that's the way it looks like
11:18 pm
whether it's a tropical storm or a category one hurricane. here are the wind fields. notice how they miss us, this is 60-mile per hour winds in orange and 60 in red, however by 8:00 on saturday, that 40- mile per hour wind field is well inland including boston and providence so if it takes that track we're just looking at heavy surf once again kind of like bill, maybe rip currents as well as we get into friday night and particularly saturday morning. from the headlines danny's track is important. the beaches will have you surf no matter which way it decides to go. the critical times for danny is friday night into 3:00 p.m. saturday. that's the critical time. right now it appears you might get more rain from the front friday than we will from danny. if danny hugs the coast, then we will get rain and some wind in the metro area but it's got to hug the coast and right now, indications are it's going to track a little further to the east not quite as far as bill
11:19 pm
but generally speaking, should not be a huge problem for us. we will certainly keep you posted. all right, of course we're always on wusa9.com. now, the next seven days, shower or thunderstorm possible tomorrow, primarily west of town, just isolated, 87 and then showers and storms on friday, that's from the front, showers and storms possible on saturday from danny, right now i think generally speaking the showers from danny will not make it west of the bay, maybe left over thunderstorm on sunday as another front comes through, give you a shower early monday and a touch of fall, upper 70's tuesday and 80 with sunshine next wednesday. >> there's a lot going on. >> there is. >> things are happening. >> yeah, that's when hurricane season peaks. >> oh, okay. >> thanks, top. well there's an era that haunts richmond's number one animal lover. her name is robin stark and she's the ceo of the spca there and she was devastated to find her dog dead in the back of her car las week and she says her
11:20 pm
husband is horrified he forgot an tell her he put the dog there. she drove to work, didn't notice her dog was in the vehicle until lunch time and by then temperatures had reached over 90 degrees and the dog had died of heat stroke. >> this experience has been a terribly painful and very traumatic one for our family. this tragedy does not change the tremendous accomplishments and country becauses robin has made to animal welfare in this community and it will not negatively impt g her. >> however, one volunteer from the spca has called on her to resign. time magazine plans to honor the late senator kennedy. here is a look at the magazines newest issue. time celebration of the life of senator edward kennedy will hit the news sand stands on friday. what you may not have known about senator kennedy is that he loved boating and football as much of his family did and
