are just icing on my grandpa cake of a truly miraculous person. when i think about him vibrant memories of sailing, laughing, thanksgiving dinner, talking on the front porch and playing with splash come to mind. emotional remarks from senator ted kennedy's granddaughter has -- as he is laid to rest on hallowed ground at arlington national cemetery tonight. i am bruce johnson. thank you for joining us tonight. crowds lined the streets of boston outside senator kennedy's funeral where he was eulogized by president barack obama today. later they lined up to watch the motorcade he is court -- escorting his casket to its final resting place. his hearse stopped outside the capitol where he served 47 years. his width yellow and former staff member -- his widow and former staff members waited on

the steps. >> and tonight at washington arlington cemetery, senator ted kennedy was buried alongside his brothers president john f kennedy and robert kennedy. >> certain fittingness in having a burial at the dying of the day. because we know that the sun will come back again tomorrow. and as we think of teddy, we know that his new life begins. and as we look at this great family, we are sure that new life is already beginning, and that new great things are happening. >> our digital correspondent lindsay mathis is outside arlington national cemetery tonight where she talked with local people who showed up to pay their respects. lindsay. >> reporter: well, first the kennedy family left her from arlington cemetery around 9:00 and there were still folks lined up to see them off. it meant a great deal to the crowds to be able to share the

family's grief and it is obvious the crowds' presence meant a great deal to the kennedy family. >> everybody has an emotional connection to be here. to say thank you. >> alexis thompson decided to come here this morning. >> we got here about 3:30, and we -- when we pulled up it was nowhere near the amount of people that were here. i was a little shocked. >> reporter: as the hours passed, the crowds grew larger, and support for the family stronger. >> the kennedys have been a part of your family, part of your life. >> here comes the motorcade. >> reporter: as senator kennedy's hearse peaked over a slope and began to cross memorial bridge, the crowd clapped. >> thank you! >> reporter: the family, their windows down, could obviously hear the crowds reaction. just listen. >> we love you! >> when the family passed, those in the crowd including

america. ♪ my home, sweet, home 9 news now, and wusa9.com. earlier today, senator ted kennedy's life was celebrated in a two-hour funeral mass. mourners from hollywood star jack nickelson to supreme court justin steven breyer packed the funeral. president barack obama, former presidents jimmy carter, george bush, and bill clinton sat in the pews with their wives. president barack obama gave the eulogy recalling the achievements of the lawmaker. >> i, like so many others in the city where he worked for nearly half a century, knew him as a colleague, a mentor, and above all, as a friend. ted kennedy was the baby of the family who became its patriarch. the restless dreamer who became its rock. >> senator kennedy's son ted

tonight authority have not released a motive for the slayings and they are -- aren't saying whether the killer is among the dead or is at large. the police chief says it is the worst mass killing he has seen in his 25 years of policework. >> in this case there were some young ker victims involved -- younger victims involved here shall we say and of course that hurts. and you don't want to say the older you are the less it hurts. it hurts one in the same. very difficult to describe the scene without getting into manner and locations and the like. so i'm going to leave it just with a statement like that. >> how can anybody hurt little babies like that and kill them? i am very emotional. i can't help it. it's sad. >> police say some of the victims are teenagers. the two injured meantime were taken to the hospital with serious injuries '. well, he survived a fiery plane crash last year but celebrity dj am was found dead last night in his new york city

apartment. the 36-year-old, his real name is adam goldstein. police say they found a crack pipe and prescription pills inside the apartment where the body was found. last september, a lear jet carrying goldstein and musical partner travis barker crashed upon takeoff in south carolina. goldstein and barker were the only survivors of that crash. dj am was set to star in an m tv reality show this october in which he and families of drug abusers helped to stage interventions. >> basically pit is a -- it is pretty much like teen intervention. you know, it is i do an intervention on a -- for the m tv generation. it is a sibling of an addict reaches out to me. asks for help. or a parent reaches out, asks for help. i show up and i offer them help. you know i'm a recovering addict so to me that is the one bond that we have. i can tell them what i did an d offer them treatment an treatment and follow-up with and heand help them get sober. th>> ielp itors y itit could no take weeks for autopsy results to provide them with the exact

cause of death. firefighters in northern california are battling a dozen wildfires -- including one north of los angeles, that is nearly tripled in size. the fire is being blamed for three injuries. mandatory evacuations are taking place in several communities tonight. fire knocked down -- knocked out power in several of those communities and is now threatening to destroy more than 2,000 homes. >> we heard this huge explosion. which really scared us so, we decided it was time to leave. >> i am loading up the car. we have to evacuate. >> mandatory evacuation now. >> this is a shocker. but we're as ready as we're going to be i guess. >> firefighters say the blaze is only 5% contained tonight. thick smoke has hampered efforts to use air craft to drop water on the flames. the father of terry schiavo has died.

across the bay at eastton and on the other side at annapolis. this is the front. the culprit that charnelled the atmosphere up. -- charged the atmosphere up. lifted our air mass and wrung out those showers and thunderstorms. what was danny is now being absorbed in nova scotia. she have had 2.5 inches of rain so far today. our weather coming from this direction straight from canada. we're in for nice weather tomorrow. but tonight we will watch these thunderstorms pull off to the east, touching down around 70, with northwest winds. this front is going to be stalling south and east of us tomorrow. far enough away where we don't have to worry about any rain. one exception, the northern neck of virginia extreme southern maryland you might have a stray shower tomorrow. the rest of us will be dry and you're going to notice that lower humidity. so lows tonight, keeping kind of soupy in leonardtown in the 70s. the same on the beltway. north and west, cumberland touches down in the 50s. tomorrow, a nice change in pace. no 90s on this map. we will still have some 80s. good to do this summertime
