finding drivers between 95 past braddock road up to 66 clearly at speed. the outer loop, disabled vehicle at the toll road. good news there. that is now gone. lanes are moving. jumping to the beltway. this time north of the district in maryland where a little volume is building on the outer loop at university. we will take it over to 50 where we are flying this westbound from the bay bridge to bowie to the beltway. things are moving nicely as far as speed is concerned and finally that will drop us off at inbound new york avenue. the drive through northeast dc looks like a good little delay starting to grow from the times building to bladensburg road. that's a quick look at traffic. now, over to you. summer vacation is officially over for students in montgomery county. students head back to class for the 2009, 2010 school year. digital correspondent kristin fisher is live outside of quince orchard high school in gaithersburg with more. >> reporter: that's right. you can see it is still pretty

quiet here at quince orchard high school in gaithersburg but you have to keep in mind we have an hour and a half to go until the opening bell. now, in total, 142,000 students in montgomery county will be heading back to school this morning. and one of the big issues at the start of the school year is the h1n1 virus which is a concern at districts across the country. now, superintendent jerry weast was on wtop radio on friday talking about how the montgomery county public school system will handle the h1n1 flu virus. let's hear what he had to say. >> we will treat it as the regular flu and encourage people to get regular flu shots. we have been commute kateing with the parents. then we will treat it -- >> the superintendent will be speaking with us live right

the new computer scheduling system called school max is to blame. school districts in our region are taking steps to try to combat the rising trend of truancy. our friends at the washington examiner say the total number of students skipping school is difficult to determine but estimated to be in the thousands. in fairfax county, school officials have a policy where they notify parents about each skipped class. they are asking any adults that see a truant to report that person to police. montgomery county has a warning list to highlight at-risk students before they reach truant status. a university of maryland student is recovering after falling four stories from a campus parking garage. it happened at 2:00 a.m. yesterday. police are not confirming whether alcohol was involved, but several witnesses quoted in the campus newspaper say the 20- year-old man was allegedly intoxicated.

at 10:30 a.m. and a man accused of killing his estranged wife in a church parking lot goes on trial today. kevin kelly is accused of killing patricia anne kelly outside of people's community baptist church. in the news now, georgia police are offering a 25 thundershower dollars reward for information leading to the arrest in what mobile home attack that left eight people dead. police say seven bodies were discovered on saturday. and an 8th person who was injured later died. the man who reported the mass killing has been arrested on unrelated charges but police haven't ruled him out as a suspect. the world health organization is warning of a new and more powerful form of the h1n1 flu virus. the new kind goes to the lungs requiring hospital treatment. some countries report as many as 15% of patients have the more potent form. two firefighters were killed while battling a wildfire in california.

the high cost of college education worth the debt? but the fear is changing plans, leaving many to opt to go to community college. with me is the managing editor lauren ashburn. thanks for joining us. >> good morning. this is a tough time for people who are rgconsidering going to college. we are in the worst recession since world war ii and entering the 21st month of that recession. and so people are rethinking, do i go to college? do i take out those big loans or don't i? and the bureau of labor statistics says for people who are college educated the unemployment rate is at 4.9%. and that's up from last year when it was 2.8%. >> that's a big jump. >> but it is still below the average which as you know is 9.4%, a lot of statistics but we are seeing the number rising. >> if people are worried about the cost of college because it can be enormous. what are they doing about it? >> people in our area are, and

all across the country are turning to community colleges, maybe for their first or second year and then waiting out the recession, seeing what happens and then moving on to maybe a four-year college. and the second thing they are doing if they are in four-year colleges or considering going to four-year colleges is they are really holding the line on expenses. >> yep. >> and we found that because of that financial aid, nine out of ten people that go to colleges are not paying the full rate. a lot of them are using financial aid. >> any other suggestions you have, tips for folks? >> well, sure. the one thing that everybody says, all the experts say and sandy block reported the story for us and they say if you are not sure what you want to do wait a year. >> good idea. >> if you are going to get in this kind of debt make sure you know what you want to do. and the second thing you can do is there is a website es

many students yet. one of the big issues facing this school as as well as many schools across the country as ahead to the first day of classes is the h1n1 flu virus. and unfortunately, we were supposed to be speaking with superintendent of the montgomery county public school system live right now. due to a scheduling error that will not take place but i did speak to him in a few minutes ago. this is what he had to say about the school will be handling the h1n1 virus this year. >> we know how to clean up, work together with parents and certainly we have the health department which comes in and supersedes us when it comes an emergency or a pandemic type of thing. so we will all work together and do everything we can to get these kids through the swine flu and our employees, too. >> there you have it. the school says they are all set to handle the h1n1 flu virus. now, probably the biggest thing they are concerned about right now is traffic.
