events scheduled for tomorrow. at noon a remembrance ceremony will be held. in sterling, virginia from 5:00 until 8:00 it's sterling 9/11 we remember. at 6:00 p.m. the muslim community plans to hold a vigil outside the white house. it is called light the night for peace and friendship. you can find a complete list of all of those remembrances on wusa9.com. meantime, tonight the washington nationals held their own ceremony before their final game against philadelphia. the team held a moment of silence to remember the victims and they recognized many of the first responders who helped on that day. before yesterday, you likely never heard of congressman joe wilson. but the gentleman from south carolina almost came a household name after calling president obama a liar during his big health care reform speech yesterday. now, some say this means our politics have hit a new low, but others argue there really wasn't very far to fall. >> and i will continue to seek

and welcome back. here is your forecast first. the next three days not too bad tomorrow. some showers will still linger, particularly in the morning. temperatures in the low 70s. we warm up. primarily afternoon showers. and sunday the better of the two weekend days with temperatures back into the low 80s. that's pretty nice. weekend either side of me, if you're watching hd, i hope you are, the forecast in detail overnight, windy and cool with showers. heavier activity east of town. low temperatures 56-64. winds north, northeast at about

10-20. a warning on affect for the bay and flooding for the counties and areas surrounding the bay. let me show you live doppler 9000. there are some showers. but by and large, the heavy activity is well to the east of us. we've seen a few showers up in prince george's county and charles county. but the beaches have been pounded. ocean city had two inches of rain today. wind gust to 40 miles an hour today. and for the most part, we'll put this into motion, it's going to slowly drift to the east. i think some of the activity will get into our northern suburbs late tonight and mr. bernstein will be here tomorrow at 4:55 in the morning. vienna, woodbridge and 63 in gaithersburg. 57 in great falls. 59 in tyson. 61 in bethesda. you go up 270, 59 in rockville. you go past that going to gaithersburg or germantown, you'll be in the mid 50s

tonight. 59 in silver spring and 58 in bowie. so kind of a cool night. now, tomorrow morning, becoming partly soun sunny. showers -- sunny. showers still possible. best chance for showers will be early, right around rush hour time. winds will turn. by afternoon, partly sunny, breezy and cool. more showers possible. but not a bad day late in the day. high temperatures between 70 and 75. and winds northwesterly at 10-15. satellite picture radar combined, we've been watching this storm which is the remnants of tropical storm erika. it's been frustrating. we are looking at the last batch of showers to roll across the bay late tonight. then the whole area of low pressure lifts northward tomorrow. so while we have chance for so you werz tomorrow, the heavy rain will -- showers tomorrow, the heavy rain will move up towards boston. next seven days, 72 tomorrow. some showers still possible, particularly in the morning.

and for some students that means reading those boring textbooks. but for a growing number of high schoolers in dc, they could be reading text written by their peers. brittany morehouse joins us live to explain just how this could even be possible. brittany. >> derek, it all began with one moment with a teacher from southeast. he realized the textbooks weren't reaching students so he allowed them to author their own curriculum. >> the students were excited about writing. >> reporter: when he puts pen to paper, he no longer considers it a shore. in fact, he realizes he had something to teach. >> there was a whole binder filled with copies of my stories that they were passing out. and i could see people right in front of me looking through it saying, whoa, this is pretty cool. >> reporter: he's talking about his experience at a reception for one world education. it's a non-profit that began with one teacher, one idea, one classroom. >> the students might empower you to write about what it is you care about, whether it's

local issues in your community, ethnic origins or other countries you've traveled to. start writing that so i can use that as a source. >> reporter: now they did. now those stories are among dozens on the website. >> we have a tagged one like my space meets national geographic. >> too often we forget that students have a voice. >> reporter: this woman teaches at the high school. she's one of nine volunteer teachers in dc who use the foundation curriculum to supplement. >> you're seeing students, young people being engaged not only in like the learning process but they're also being engaged in their own liefingz. they're recognizing that -- lives. they're recognizing that what they do ask important. >> reporter: and this program is so important to founder eric goldstein he gave up teaching. >> it was one year without salary because i believe in the potential and the impact of this program. >> so what's next? we interviewed goldstein at school without walls. it's one of the handful of public schools where principles are getting involved. goldstein is sharing his
