there were these big block letter that is said relax. i thought, gosh, that sounds great. >>reporter: weeks later she still remembered that image. that saved her from losing thousands of dollars. >>when i got this e-mail and i saw those pictures it sent up a red flag. >>reporter: it came from a person posting the very same house on craigslist. >>8 bedroom, 7 bath. he said its only going to be $4,500 for the week. >>reporter: it really belonged to carol and jerry. >>someone took our photos and our property that was already online and put it out there on another website be you with their contact information. >>reporter: he found out about this three weeks ago. >>we got a phone call from someone in indiana who said he wanted a receipt for his payment for our rental property. >>reporter: knowing he never rented to him he reported the problem to every local authority he could think of. >>it's beyond frustrating that

everyone is pointing fingers. it's not our jurisdiction. even the fbi said it's not our jurisdiction if it goes overseas. >>reporter: so he's taking on his own crime investigation finding other properties listed by the same poster. >>they want either bank wires or certified checks. big red flag. the contract contains no business address, business name, business phone number. that's another red flag. >>reporter: many hits. >>you're a fraud. a you will they're doing is using a messaging service. >>reporter: expertise say they'll keep building on until they right this wrong. >>because its so easy for them to just fool everyone into thinking that this is their home. >>reporter: we e-mailed and telephoned that person that posted the properties on craigslistment he did not respond to any of them. we reached out to several representatives for craigslist. no response there either. >>how big of a problem are we

talking about here? it's hard to tell. there are really no groups that track this kind of fraud, but john has been able to track down several, dozens of victims, people like him that have been victimized by the very same fraudster. >>taking their information and putting it online. >>absolutely. >>what is the website doing? in a short answer, they haven't really done anything yet. they responded to his e-mail, a few of them, but they're sending e-mails saying this website doesn't exist. it still remains up there. >>all right, brittany morehouse, great work. craigslist has a menu to help you avoid scans. it's on the home page. it recommends only dealing local why, with people you can meet in person. you should never wire funds. also, avoid deals that involve shipping.

the upper 70s on friday and clear out nicely. a nice end to the week. here's the forecast into overnight. mostly cloudy and cool. a shower or sprinkle possible. temperatures in the 60s. winds at 10 miles per hour. here's the doppler. not too many showers out there. the ones we're tracking to the west a little bit on the heavy side. they're now moving across the bay. up north it's quiet up 270 and i-95. some of these are pretty heavy. at 66, it's pretty hefty. good rainfall there. good towards shady side as well. where will they go? here's the next hour. they should weaken a little bit as they drift to the south and east. it's going to roll through town and alexandria across the airport and into clinton and brandy wine. these will move across the bay. now back to the computer.

. most of us only call 911 in a real emergency, a heart attack, house on fire, perhaps someone trying to break in. last year there were 30 people who called d.c. fire a total of more than 2,000 times. the paramedics set out to find out what the problem was and how to fix it. >>reporter: d.c.'s engine 10, the busiest in the country. 80% of its emergency responses are medical calls. a huge chunk of those are far

from emergencies. good morning. reporter: this could be a solution. okay. long time no see. >>reporter: six fire paramedics are part of the unit called street calls, visiting the most frequent 911 callers to see if they can help them before they call again. >>every time that i had an appointment they were calling fire to bring me in. >>reporter: her private ambulance service was calling twice a day just to get her in and out of her house for doctor's opponents. >>only twice since we first visited with you. >>reporter: this is a common asthma medicine. it has a little counter right here telling you how many doses you have left. the street calls crew talked to one woman who had called 911 a total of 161 times. she had been inhailing from an empty tube for nine months.

she no longer calls on a daily basis. more importantly, she's at home comfortable. >>how often were you calling? every other day. >>reporter: he was calling because medicaid stopped pay for his medication. >>i mean, i can't breathe. >>reporter: they got him a social worker and straightened out his medicaid mess. >>thank you, man. >>all right. reporter: the fire chief says street calls has been good for everyone. it's saving money and reducing wear and tear. patients are getting help before it turns into a real emergency. >>do you have a health care provider? no. >>the you. >>you're welcome. >>reporter: wusa 9 news and would i had. >>street calls took a look at 25 people it's worked with so far. simple things like getting their medicine refilled or finding them a place to live has reduced the 911 calls by 61%. get a new computer and clean up your credit.
