well as well as 66 eastbound, 50 to 123 no incidents or accidents to report there. >> thank you. on the rundown at 6:01, the push for health care reform. a committee vote could come next week from a plan from senator baucus. he unveiled the plan yesterday. it could create co-ops to sell insurance instead of the federal government. insurance companies would have to sell insurance to anyone even those with preexisting conditions and it would lower prices for low-income families and cover preventive dental and mental health care. while he has no republicans on his side now, he is hoping for gop support. >> at the enof the day we all share a common purpose, that is to make the lives of americans better than they are today tomorrow and to get health care reform done. which means the time to come for action is now.

>> reporter: the senator adds his plan would not add any money to the deficit. president obama is taking his push for health care reform to the university of maryland today. he is holding a rally at the comcast center. that's where we will find armando trull who's live with a preview. armando? >> tonight president obama wants congress pass a comprehensive health care reform plan and he seethes senate version as a good first step. later this morning he will tell a packed audience here at the cam cast center that any plan must provide security and stability for those who have insurance and provide affordable options for those who don't. the university of maryland terrapins were busy beavers last night. >> i think we are expecting a couple hundred volunteers. >> reporter: they were prepping the comcast center for the visit from president obama who will continue to use his electronic bully pulpit to push for health care reform.

lower consumption. o. soft drink makers oppose the idea. representatives from toe washington area sanitation authority and the dc fire and ems face tough questions during a dc council hearing yesterday. those questions were about inadequate water to fight a mansion fire in july. council member phil mendleson was stunned to learn thed ifed if never received maps. >> your testimony is the fire and ems responded to fires without maps. >> correct. >> i'm stunned here. how do you show up at a fire not knowing where the water supply is? >> reporter: dc fire and ems now say they have the maps they need to know where water supplies are.

be extra vigilant on your morning commute. a new report finds crimes are on the rise in montgomery county. our partners at the washington examiner report serious crimes in and around metro station and bus stops jumped 11% in the last two years. shady grove saw the most crime, 20% of them in wait. the biggest crime larceny, mostly from items stolen from cars and parking garages. work is underway on a new metro bus garage. up 29 -- 295 in southwest washington. money for if facility came from the sale of an old bus yard as well as federal stimulus dollars dollars. time for another "living $mart" report. she is playing princess for the day. >> every day. >> million million around the corner and parents are hitting the stores. princess costumes have been number one sellers for little

anniversary of hurricane floyd. it flooded two sections of the carolinas and caused $4 billion in damage. and speaking of water, we woke up to rain on the roads this morning. >> and before it came here we had showers out. but floyd had winds 40 to 70- mile an hour gusts. >> west side of the metro less than the east. the rain this morning, yeah, that's showing up on the radar in a big way. not everybody is seeing it. i want to start on the weather computer. some sprinkles last night and showers. patranya bhoolsuwan will have the traffic in a second. and an area of showers popped up in northern virginia. an we see that on live doppler hd as we switch it over for you and you will see heavier stuff across parts of montgomery county now. this has come out of loudoun county, also it will hit parts of southern areas of frederick

county as well and to the south we have showers moving in to prince georges and charles county. and st. marys, this will stay north of you. in toe metro not much going on. even fairfax, west of 95, pretty quiet. but we start north, zoom in north because the upper part of montgomery county is seeing the rains here. especially from boyds to aurora county. south of town, we have been watching activity as it has been coming out of virginia. for the most part out of virginia showers woodbridge to alexandria along route 1 east of 95 and prince georges county as well but the heaviest is north. as far as the forecast, a few showers this morning. might be one or two this amp but this morning looks to have a better chance. 70 today. not bad tomorrow. upper 70s with maybe sun in the afternoon and a really nice saturday with highs in the mid

run from bolling air force base to the anacostia metro and should be up and running in a couple of years. >> the chesapeake bay is polluted and getting worse. that's the findings of the group. they say over fishing and pollution in toe bay are taking a toll. it is having a huge impact on the economy of the state. watermen are demanding action. >> i think we are at a crucial point now that we could totally collapse within the next five years and if they don't do something drastic now that could happen. >> watermen blamed water treatment which allows algae. it can cause dead zones but updating plants would cost millions of dollars. the capitals begin their preseason tonight and he had a grand slam in the nationals game. but first the signs of now. remember in fourth grade when you have to learn the state

month. maryland the budget news gets worse. martin o'malley says $300 million may need to be cut from toe bucket. the forecast comes out today. it could be on top of the $735 million already slashed in annapolis. now the latest to campaign 2009 in virginia. a key debate for the two major candidates for governor, deeds and mcdonnell. they will be in mclean. the debate begins 10:45. our peggy fox will be there and will have a recap tonight on 9 news now. new developments in the murder of yale grad student annie le. we have learned an arrest is expected soon in le's murder. that comes down in the last hour. from a spokesman for the new haven connecticut police department. a yale lab technician has been named a person of interest but has not been charged. le's body was found in a body

where she works. police are searching for three teenagers who they say stabbed a man working at a subway restaurant. the attack happened yesterday around noon at the subway in the 800 block of northeast. an argument broke out between the workers and the girls. the girls who range in age from 14 to 18 allegedly attacked the man. he was treated at a local hospital. we are learning more about a college student who used a sword against an religioned burglar. police found no signs of forced entry in the home anded they it was discovered by the tune in a detached garage. the man who died has been arrested two dozen times for similar crimes and had just been released from jail. jessica doyle is back with another living smart report. you have news for potential home buyers out there. >> that's right. a lot of people want to buy a house for the first time but they are just not ready yet. here's good news for them.

friends. in five minutes kristin fisher looks at who's looking a us. right now our check on virginia weather and traffic beginning with howie b. >> good morning. you folks across virginia are dealing where shower activity. heaviest stuff in to virginia and maryland. some scattered showers across loudoun county but it is the stuff between warrenton and culpeper that is heaviest approaching amissville, north of culpeper, moving east and northeast. a few showers in fairfax county east of route 1. go to tephras for virginia today. we have showers this morning. it will be a cloudy day, coolish. look at those highs. 71 stafford. 67 front royal and 69 remington. as you say it will be a wet road for virginia drivers. 95 out of fredericksburg to triangle no problems aside from the rainy weather.

user. so for a lot of people that use these sites they should maybe not be concerned but should know about it. specifically we are talking about something the white house is doing. one of toe big buzz words of the obama administration has been transparency, especially transparency on-line which is why our web story of the day is so surprising. look at this. the washington times reported the white house is collecting and storing comments and videos on the social networking sites, here's the catch, without ever notifying or asking the consent of the site's viewedder -- users. this is a big deal because it affects a lot of people. right now the white house has more than 350,000 fans on facebook and gets hundreds of thousands of comments every day. on twitter the white house has a million followers, and on youtube they have 87,000 subscribers to the white house

washington, from fairfax county, a couple of sprinkles but this is crossing the river in to northwestern charles, southwestern charless of prince georges county. clinton to hack cook we are seeing stuff and activity on the northern upper part of the county here. gaithersburg, north of 370 or coming south you get in to the drier weather. damascus to germantown and clarksburg, urbana and frederick, middletown and meyersville may get shower activity. it is moving east northeast in to western howard and carroll county. leesburg you have had sprinkles this morning and one or two could pass through. another area is south of washington where we have had shower activity come out of areas of virginia and move in to maryland. go to the weather computer and talk about the forecast. showers this morning. maybe one oar two this afternoon but the next few hours will be the bulk of the shower activity for today.
