they conspired to murder u.s. marines. they say that he had that and they planned to use it to attack the americans. a total of eight men were involved going on training expeditions in the weeks leading up to their arrests back in july. piercing the bullets out there in north carolina. and investigators say that the eighth suspect is believed to be in pakistan. the men say that they were just playing games out in the woods. and the u.s. attorney said that the additional charges out there, hammering the grim reality that today's home grown terrorists, they are not limiting their violent plans to locations overseas. but instead, they are willing to set their sights on american citizens in american targets. to another story now where 20 people are facing the federal

charges in the largest fraud investigation at fairfax county history. here is peggy fox. >> investigators found the bunches of the electrical cords. mountains of trash, and multiple cooking devices and sleeping areas. >> we found one situation where there was a mother, a father, infant, literally living in that furnace room. >> sent out there to crack down on the forces. covering the scheme involving 35 homes for them, real estate agents, mortgage brokers, and subcontractors. so far, 20 people, under arrest. these are four of the eight suspects for them facing local charges. >> this is somebody in a team of people that inspire to do the multiple transactions for them.

so this is truly a conspiracy of the criminal conspiracy. >> they would float money into the accounts of the straw buyers who would tear down the home, build a mansion, turn it into a building house. >> this is a map. the 35 homes involved in this, they are on the east side, concentrated in springfield and the church. but in those communities are plenty of people who spoke out and complained. we'll look up the value of them, when you started seeing some of the same names and the transactions. >> the fbi encourage them to keep coming forward because they believe they have more cases. peggy fox, 9news now and wusa9.com. the suspect face up to 30 years behind bars, and most of them are u.s. citizens. the chief of staff of dc councilman, jim graham,

indicted on bribely charges -- bribery charges. accused of taking that for them to get that brewing. audrey barns now live with more on the raid and the fallout. audrey? he was at a game meeting when they said that they were raiding the chief of staff. as he left them where he plead not guilty to bribery charges. allegations that the chief of staff of ten years, they took two bribes, totaling $600 to help get them through. >> and his boss has jurisdictions over them. >> he has never to my

soft, they have not interviewed them, but they held a second press conference about 4:45 this afternoon and repeated what he told us earlier. he says he personally has done nothing wrong. this investigation is only just beginning. >> all right, thank you for that. >> the general manager, they will stay on the job. they voted 5-1 today to extend their contract. another three years for them. the 62-year-old transportation official, they will continue to receive their annual $315,000 salary. they will also get $6,000 more and health benefits. and $26,000 a year after he retired. they struck them earlier this month, they are out of a job. they were critically injured when they were struck out there.

tonight, president obama finds himself with plenty of people where they are hosting the g20 summit. that is drawing the heads of the states from around the globe. and their presence has drawn hundreds of demonstrators. police, they are squaring off against the protesters. that's all the part for us here in dc. but not for pittsburgh. >> we have a view of who is sitting out there for them. is >> and hopefully that they will be able to accomplish some things. but i'm not really optistic about a whole lot. >> reporter: the summit officially kicks off later on tonight at the pittsburgh botanical garden. the prime topic of the descriptions, how to solve this one and prevent any'res down the road. >> and tonight, senator robert byrd, out of the hospital and resting at homes. the 91-year-old democrat from west virginia, they were hospitalized for two days. after the tests revealed the elevated white blood cell counts. spending time in may and in june for the serious infections. the former democratic party

chair, they will temporarily fill the city and the seat, rather, of the late senator ted kennedy. massachusetts governor, they made the announcement this afternoon. he will serve in the post until voters, they pick a replacement in a january special election. and he's a kennedy family friend who served on the late senator staff for eight years. and shares the jfk's library foundation. >> some potentially big news tonight on the age vaccine front for the first time in nearly a quarter of a century of research, scientists say that they have a cocktail of vaccines that are boosting immunity, even a little. in thailand, two vaccines that failed previously, they were given on a series of six doses. after watching for three years, scientists say that they appear to have boosted immunity by about 31%. >> well, the headline in the news is that this is a very important first step towards the development of the safe and effective vaccine. >> reporter: the news is firing up aids activists.

the suspect in an allege terrorism plot that stretch from denver to new york was indicted today. they are now charged with plotting attacks. they indicted the 24-year-old airport shuttle bus driver for conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction. to a charge that involves life in prison. and it is believed he was working with others. right now, the fbi, they are still trying to track them down. firefighters, they surrounded several homes near california. they skoápblged 16 -- they scorched 16,000 out there. it's that time of the year. but for local news, they are

going to put a twist out there for them and the fundraisers. and howard bernstein has the story. >> it's a brand new school year. an exciting time for kids and some parents as well about the first fund raising drive of the year. and they are not using water bottles. and they just sort of modified that whole approach for them this year going to something that's more eco-friendly, more green for an educational component. we want to teach them about raising money and also be conscientious about the earth. >> we decided that they put that out there for them.

the ohio valley. most of those are going to see some of the moisture that will curl bag around and give us a chance of the showers tonight and early tomorrow. and good news for our friends in atlanta, no showers today. nothing heavy on the horizon through tomorrow. and look at all these showers, approaching pittsburgh. they will kind of dive to the north of us. some of the showers will get in here by tomorrow morning and then we'll clear out. their own forecast, remember all six zones on our website on wusa.com? also, you can track those in ohio on the interactive radar. they get close and you can track that on the live doppler radar. 74, charlestown tomorrow. mid-70s out here. upper 70s for springfield and stafford. again, they may take a while to get the sun out. by the afternoon, on the east side, a little slower cooling out. a little cooler for them at 77. better chance of the showers on south and east out there. and then 75d.c., 74 out here. next seven days? 75 tomorrow, becoming parly cloudy. a little rain shower on saturday. upper 60s, rain and showers

all right, for the last four days, we heard how bad the lions are and any team that they should be easy pickens for the redskins. before you chalk up the w, you may want to check their roster. they actually have some certifiable talent on that team like julian peterson and that guy, calvin johnson. despite playing on a winless team this year, out of georgia tech, they caught 78 balls for them for 1300 yards for them and an insane 12 touchdowns. good luck covering them. >> it is kind of like as positive thing in nature, you know, to be so tall for them in athletics and have a little defensive back. >> in the meanwhile, the sprained ankle, limited their movement at practice today. but he says that they will definitely start on sunday and
