66 eastbound, hello, virginia. a good amount of volume. no issues from edsall to seminary to the 14th street bridge and 95 northbound an extra ten minutes for drivers trying to make ware way from the prince william parkway to lorton. an alleged terror plot against the quantico marine base. the feds say they broke it up a while ago but we are just learning about it now. digital correspondent alex trevino is live in the information center with the story. >> reporter: good morning. the government says they undertook reconnaissance of the local marine corps base in the indictment, the inspiring terrorist group had armor piercing ammunition to launch an attack against the americans. the men have been in federal custody since july for conspiring to commit terrorists acts abroad. the government has video of what it calls training done by the suspects in north carolina and has confiscated high- powered weapons belonging to the men. three of the suspects have been charged with planning an attack

on the marine base at quantico, which employs more than 1400 military and civilian worker and houses 2500 family members. the government compiled documents and recordings in the investigation but has not yet declassified all of the evidence against the men. we showed the justice department release, claiming the defendants had maps of quantico to some of the people who work or volunteer at the base. >> security must be better if they can get maps of where basic things are here at quantico. >> reporter: the key charge is conspiring to murder military personnel. they could face up to life in prison if convicted. 9 news now and wusa9.com. we're learning more about a another alleged terror plot. an indictment filed in federal court says najibullah zazi bought materials to make bombs. those ingredients came from beauty supply stores. he said he was looking for help

to make the bottom bombs and they say friends visited him from new york and used stolen credit cards to buy the ingredients. the attorney general says any threat posed by najibullah zazi has been disrupted. a alleged terrorist heads to court today in dallas, texas. they say a jordanian national planted a car bomb inside of the fountain place building except it wasn't a bomb. he was given a decoy by agents working under cover. the fbi says the investigation is not related to the one in denver. at three after the hour, a developing story involving ruth ginsberg. the 76-year-old justice was take on the the hospital after becoming ill while working at her office. doctors found she had slightly low blood pressure, the result of another medical treatment.

she is now in table condition and should be just fine. the right hand man for one of the district's most powerful plietionst politicians is on paid leave. he's accused of taking bribes. ted loza has been the chief of staff to jim graham. an indictment accuses him of taking bribes from someone in the taxi industry. we spoke to councilman graham. >> mr. loza has never, to mirex, spoken to me about any element of any taxi cab bill that i was considering. >> reporter: the indictment accuses loza of accepting trips and the use of vehicles and taking $1,500 in cash. loza pleaded not guilty late thursday. metro's general manager john catoe received a three- year contract extension. the new account will pay him $315,000 a year.

today is high school hero central friday. a new way to highlight heros across the region. kristin fisher is in hyattsville, maryland. who's the big hero there, kristin? >> our high school hero this morning is the head coach for the dematha high school varsity team. he was named high school coach of the year for starting a program here in the washington area to teach high schoolers how to play the game and how to live life after football. it is three days before the third game of the season for

the varsity football team. they are 2-0 and ranked number one in the washington area and yet this team doesn't even have their own field. they practice at a public park. >> this is all we know. >> reporter: that hasn't stopped the coach from building the best high school football program in the area. >> make it. that a boy. >> i love the game of football and the game of football i think teaches a young man so much about live. >> reporter: in his 28 years as head coach he has led them to 17 championships and 300 of his players scored football scholarships to college. >> we have seven dematha alumni that made the opening rosters of the nfl teams that's the most the country. >> reporter: one is edwin williams. >> for me, coach has been the kind of person that i want in my right hand corner. when i get married i want him at the ceremony. i consider him part of the family. like everyone else i play with. >> reporter: ten years ago he

started a high school player development program for the area. >> what makes it special, besides just doing football is there are a number of other values involved with it in terms of life skills, hard work, dedication, loyalty, self sacrifice. >> reporter: and it also brings out college recruiters. that's how he says he scored a football scholarship to iowa. >> if i didn't do that i wouldn't be where i am. >> i can't say how blessed and how thankful i have been to be part of their lives and maybe make a little difference. >> that a boy. i love ya. that's the way to practice. good job way to work. >> reporter: coach mcgregor started the program at just one school and it since expanded to 16 sites. up to 500 students attend each one of those sessions and it is all free. so coach mcgregor has literally been a hero to thousands of young man in the area by teaching them to play the game they love and how to go on and do great things beyond

avoid the beltway in tysons corner tonight if you can. sky nine caught crews doing preparation work. tonight the beltway will be closed at route 123 for extended periods between midnight and 5:00 a.m. they could last 30 minutes at a time. they are relocating power lines. this weekend, don't be alarmed if you see a lot of police activity. the district is conducting mock preparedness drills on saturday and sunday. they will be throughout the city with police and first responder teams. specifics will be given out once the drills begin, but don't be alarmed. it's just a test. now to check on what is inside the "usa today" and a look at how our stimplus money is being spent. stimulus takes detour around ailing metropolitan area roads is the headline.

athletic program all morning long and now i want to talk about the academics here. and they have a very impressive track record. last year, 225 students graduated from this school and 222 were accepted in to a four- year college. joining me to talk about that is the president and the vice president of the student body. we're going to start by chatting with the president, eric hamill. talk to me about what kind of education you kneel you are getting here at dematha. >> it is college prep school. various levels of academics. as hard as you want to push yourself. it is all what you want to make of it. we have honors, regular and ap. so, i mean as much as you want to push yourself the opportunities are will to get a great education. >> now, we are here for high school heros of course. we want to talk about the volunteering that goes on at

here's what is in the news now. prosecutors say that najibullah zazi bought materials to mike bombs and was looking for help in putting explosives together. he was helped by friends who bought materials with stolen credit cards. a federal appeals court richmond tossed out a $5 million verdict against a baptist hurricane. it protested the soldiers at funerals. they ruled the church is protected by the first amendment. a public hearing today on that mass dc mansion fire from july. firefighters claimed they were slowed down by a bad water supply and faulty hydrants. the hearing at the wilson building begins at 9:30. on facebook, dale wants to know in the yard will be sale will be a washout? >> yeah. better today, everybody. 71. we'll be right back.
