leveled the mansion when firefighters sucked a small main dry and took an hour to hook up a to a bigger main a mile away. but mendleton pointed to 16 fire hydrants within 16 feet of the house and said had they had these maps or been trained to use them they would have known there were other supplies to tap. and in a statement he blamed rubin. >> there was enough water to fight the fire. not only is there something wrong that the fire department did not know this on july 29th but there is something wrong when the command staff doesn't know the answer. >> the fire and ems department is committed to move ahead. >> he is planning training for water supplies and mapping early next month. this have bruce leshan at quantico marine base where people are reacting with anger and disbelief. allegation that two terror suspects may have been plotting to kill marines here.

>> you want to mess with quantico, you are not going to leave. >> they don't have a chance, not at all. not at all. >> reporter: new details out tonight, prosecutors say daniel boyd, a muslim convert raised in alexandria, and another man believed violent jihad was an obligation and had sworn to die as martyrs. boyd's wife insists he is innocent. >> reporter: the u.s. attorney in north carolina says the plot shows the grim reality that home-grown terrorists are now willing to set their sights on american citizens and american targets right here at home. a man accused of setting off bombs in new york city is back in the bigal tonight. he arrived in brooklyn late this afternoon. he was trevor transferred from new york to colorado aboard a government plan. najibullah zazi is accused of plotting to attack commuter trains around this september 11th anniversary. a 19-year-old man from jordan made his first appearance in court today for

another bombing plot. he is accused of parking a truck he thought was full of explosives beneath a 60-story sky scraper in dallas. the devices were actually decoys provided by the fbi. the fbi is also providing a terror suspect in springfield, illinois with a decoy device. michael fenton is accused of trying to blow up a federal courthouse. fenton is described as an exconvict who admired john walker lindh. investigators do not think the plot in illinois and texas are related. a lawyer for the only person convicted of conspiring in the september 11th attacks say he's entitled to a new trial. zacarias moussaoui is serving a life sentence after pleading guilty. his lawyer told a three-judge appeals panel today that plea was unconstitutional. the lawyers say that his lawyers had to go through a national security background check his choices were

restricted. analysts believe that is the voice of osama bin laden. a audiotape released today. the speaker threatens european countries with troops in afghanistan to pull those troops out or pay the price. the five minute video was released ahead of national elections in germany this weekend. it is the latest in a series of videos threatening germany with a rude awayening as voters back a government supporting the war. this is the third al-qaeda tape in a week between that and the terror arrest, we want to know how you feel. do you think more plots are popping up against the united states? or do you think the government is just getting better at breaking them up? share your thoughts in an e- mail to mcginty's mail bag. derek will read some of your responses on the air when he

returns on monday. a followup now on the arrest of the chief of staff for one of the district's most powerful council members. jim graham is postponing a hearing on taxi cab legislation after ted loza was arrested for accepting bribes from a member of the taxi cab industry. one of the groups listed in the government's search warrant is his wife who works for a nonprofit group that puts on a latina festival in mount pleasant each year. he used to be on the board of directors but they parted ways a few weeks ago. this is about the time some folks think of making travel plans for the holiday, but this year flying around thanksgiving or new years may cost you more. delta, american and united airlines are adding a $10 surcharge to most of their fares on three dates. jot them down, sunday after thanksgiving and january 2nd and 3rd. we will have more on this story at 9 news now at 11:00. one of the top requests

from a teenager can be a car but parent may want to think twice before giving it. a study finds that teenagers with their own cars are more likely to get in a crash than those who share a car. 5500 teenagers from grades 9 through 11 took part in the study. the findings are in the october issue of pediatrics. all right. let's see how drivers are doing on the road tonight. patranya bhoolsuwan is here now with a look at traffic as folks get ready for the weekend. >> people are getting ready for the weekend but first they have to get through the traffic. it is easing up as we see here in maryland. the inner loop, not too many problems down there. a little delay old georgetown road and the mormon temple. but right now no major problems. 270 northbound improving in that area. all lanes are clear. that's what we want to see this friday evening. switchgears and head over to virginia. see how things are looking. heavier from 234 past triangle.

welcome back. now some of you know google experienced some serious outages yesterday. some users were unable to access their g-mail and contact lists, but there are steps people can take to get their data during outages. digital correspondent lindsey mastis has the story. >> reporter: on thursday morning at 10:30 g-mail went down. >> no one could e-mail each other and everyone freaked out. >> kept refreshing my blackberry. >> everyone had to speak to each other it was odd. >> a paralyzing couple of moments for me. >> reporter: for those that rely on google solely work came to a halt. the technology strategist chris abraham knew what to do. >> it's the perfect system. >> he backs up everything. >> so if something like this happens you have another copy in another place and you can continue to work. >> reporter: he suggests forwarding a copy of all of your e-mails to another account, like yahoo or hot

57 silver spring. upper 50sin bethesda and longville and 60 downtown. temperatures if you are heading out, it will stay dry tonight. looking at temperatures in the upper 60s to around 70. 66 frederick. 69 downtown. high was 77 today despite the clouds and 64 in manassas and 68 at quantico. 69 in fredericksburg. tomorrow morning, dry but clouds on the increase. cool. temperatures in the 50s and 60s. the clouds come in and trap this cool air. by afternoon, temperatures don't go far very fast. high 55 to 70. mostly cloudy, rather cool. light rain and showers will develop. again the heavy stuff comes in tomorrow night. we are talking about an inch of rain. i showed you this at 5:00. i have to show it again. this kind of bothered me. see the snowflakes they have hung out now as decorations. we haven't been through halloween yet. can we back things up a little bit? that's all i'm saying. satellite picture, radar combined. a lot of showers to the southwest and a tremendous

amount of moisture in east tennessee and kentucky and jump the mountains tomorrow night. the good news for atlanta, they will have some showers but won't add too much to their flooding. less than a half an inch. for us in some respects probably the best rainfall you have had in the shenandoah over the last several months. you could get two inches in the shenandoah valley by sunday morning. next seven days, 68 tomorrow. rain and showers develop. heavy at night. showers taper off on sunday. turning partly cloudy and with that temperatures recover in the mid-70s. upper 70s on monday. another front comes through. shower or thunderstorm is possible. that will usher in quite possibly the coolest air 0 of the season with sunshine in the 60s on tuesday and wednesday and then moderate a little bit, low to mid-70s after that. >> take out the sweater. >> get ready. i could handle the halloween decorations, but not christmas. i saw christmas commercial the other day. >> that's what is killing me. i don't like it. stop it. a year filled with grief and overwhelming joy.

nikki bunting's husband made the ultimate sacrifice when he was killed in afghanistan and now his widow is keeping the memory of the fallen alive. for military spouses it is always a harsh reality that has come true far too many times. after a quick visit home the good-bye at the airport would be the last time nikki bunting would see her husband. >> i miss my husband so much and think of him every second of every day but one thing he taught me is to be so grateful for the things i have in my life and so that's what i'm focusing on. >> reporter: the army captain was killed in afghanistan by a road side bomb in february. tracey paul remembers the day when the tragic news was delivered to her sister. >> the first thing she said when, you know, they came to the door, she said i hope i'm pregnant. i hope i'm pregnant. >> reporter: as fate would have it nikki's wish came true four days after the worst day of her life. >> our little joy on the way. it is so much to look forward to. >> reporter: nikki soldiered on to keep her husband's memory
