welcome to 9 news now. i'm angie goff in for j.c. hayward. police have a lot of questions and few answers following the discovery of a body in prince georges county. the discovery was made on a playground, behind ascension lutheran school in landover hills on the 7400 block of buchanan street. police will not say whether the body is that of a man or woman. we will be following the story throughout the day and have updates on our website at wusa9.com and on this evening's newscast. a woman doing yard work was killed last night when a tree fell on her. it happened on oak tree road. the husband called 91 when he came outside and saw his wife was trapped under the tree. >> when fire rescue units arrived on the scene we found a 63-year-old female. she was under an approximately ten-inch caliber tree. the tree appeared to have been dead and fallen due to a shallow root system and possibly with the rain we have received in the area.

>> reporter: fire and rescue workers say the tree had been partially uprooted before it fell. the name of the 63-year-old woman is not being released until her family is notified. the corruption investigation in to the dc taxi cab industry is widening. sources close to the probe say councilman jim graham may even be a target. alex trevino has an update from the wilson building. alex, what's the latest? >> reporter: 9 news now learned that cab drivers were leaving $20 bills in the ashtrays of their vehicle. some investigators were taking bribes for payment for overlooking deficiencies that should have earned them a failure. part of the probe centers on city hall. the feds arrested the chief of staff to dc councilman jim graham. ted loza is charged with

accepting gifts, bribes and trips up to $1,500. >> we fully believe once the evidence has been put in front of a jury he will be vindicated. >> reporter: sources close to the fbi probe tell 9 news now that councilman graham is also a target of the probe. the ward two councilman says he has done nothing wrong and knew of no wrongdoing on behalf of of ted loza. reporting from northwest washington, alex trevino, 9 news now and wusa9.com. >> councilman graham cancelled a taxi cab bill. that was an important part of the investigation. 9 news now confirmed the legislation is dead and there seems to be little interest among council members in reintroducing it. a prince georges county shopping center is closed while investigators look for though source of a gas leak. the leak led to an evacuation

of the pen mar shopping center on thursday. thursday. >> back on may 7th we injured nine firefighters and evacuated up to 50 people and saved their lives if not serious injury because of what is sounding like at this point, again we are early in the understand investigation but it sounds like the same circumstances is occurring as did in may. >> reporter: they are working today to resolve the problem. a show of force today in iran is generating worldwide criticism. the rogue nation says it successfully test fired the longest range missiles in its arsenals. weapons capable of striking israel, parts of europe and u.s. military bases in the middle east. joel brown has more. >> reporter: iran test fired a missile this morning that could reach israel, europe and u.s. bases in the middle east. the country wrapped up two days

of war games by test firing the longest range missile. it can travel up to 1200 miles. that launch came on the heels of other tests. iran's revolutionary guard fired hundreds of shorter-range missiles. a government spokesman insists these tests are not -- it has nothing to do with peaceful nuclear technology of iran he told reporters. the tests come as the obama administration is drawing up new sanctions it will use against iran if that country doesn't come clean about the nuclear program. on friday the administration revealed it knew about a secret iranian nuclear site and warned iran to open it up to international inspectors. over the weekend, iran gave in, saying it will give the united nations access to the facility. the secret site and the missile tests are sure to dominate talks beginning on thursday. iranian officials will sit down with the u.s., china, europe

and russia. >> they have to come to this meeting on october 1st and present convincing evidence as to the purpose of their nuclear program. >> reporter: the meeting will be the first direct talks between america and iran in three decades. joel brown, cbs news, washington. this is the third round of missile tests since two days of drills by the revolutionary guard. president obama says american kids spend too little time in school. he feels it puts them in a disadvantage with other students around the globe. the president said he knows the prospect of more school time is not popular but he would like to see kids stay a little later and have them open on the weekend so they have a place place to go. one viewer writes, extending school hours would be hard on children. they need time to need to have a life another viewer said the better we teach our children to

witnessed teachers not teaching the programs required for special needs students. friends and neighbors held a candle light vigil at the home of a slain mount airy family. police say that charles dalton killed his wife and two children before taking his own life. police are trying to determine what led to the tragedy. police say he did not leave a suicide note. roman polanski has hired a lawyer in switzerland to fight extra diction to the united states. the director of chinatown and rosemary's baby was arrested on saturday on an international warrant as he arrived in zurich to receive an award. >> reporter: it was a day roman polanski had been dreading and by this time thought may never come, but u.s. prosecutors know that he planned to travel to sit skitter land to receive an award authorized a trap and arrested him. >> took this long because he was a fugitive. now she no longer a fugitive.

he was arrested purr student a warrant issued three decades ago. >> reporter: in ' 77, they say that he raped a 13-year-old girl. he pled guilty. convinced the judge was going to in the negative on the plea bargain deal he fled the u.s. >> i ran away because i think that was very unfortunate to have a judge who misused justice. >> reporter: the justice is now dead. a judicial review this year did find there was misconduct, but the charges could not be set aside as roman polanski was a fugitive. during renewed attention, roman polanski's victim, who accepted a cash settlement from him has said she does not want the case reopened. >> the publicity was so terrible and so immediate that it just overshadowed everything that happened that night.

president obama will travel to copenhagen to appeal for the 2016 summer olympic games in chicago. the president is scheduled to leave on thursday and will join his wife michelle and others in his administration in making the pitch. mr. obama would be the first u.s. president to take such a direct role in lobbying for the olympics event. chicago faces tough competition, though, from rio de janeiro, madrid and tokyo. john travolta is expected

to take the witness stand today in the bahamas, where two men are accused of extortion. the charges stem from the death of travolta's son last january. >> reporter: john travolta is the prosecution's key witness and they have a key piece of evidence, as well. former ambulance driver on tape negotiating with travolta's lawyer. according to a people peel magazine reporter, who's seen the tape, he demands $25 million, explaining i was poor all of my life. i wanted to do things for charity. travolta's lawyer laughed and he said you are a bow hailian robin hood, man. >> reporter: he threatened to go public with a medical ferment related to the death of the 21-year-old son jett. he was one of the first emergency workers on the scene and drove the ambulance that took him and his parents to the

hospital he said how travolta reacted to his son's death. >> behind the curtain, tears in his eyes. i could see the love in his eyes for his son. >> reporter: the undercover tape was reportedly made around the same time at a hotel in the bahamas. according to "people," he the man settles for $15 million on the tape and promises once this is closed it is buried deeper than the "titanic." >> reporter: both defendants claim they are innocent and their attorneys are trying to keep the tape out of evidence in the trial. the judge could rule on its admissibility later today. one of the largest mobilization efforts since hurricane katrina sets a new record and it is because of the dr. oz show and 700 health care volunteers. 1700 people showed up for free health care on saturday at the reliant convention center in houston. the dr. oz show hosted by

the historic lake hotel. the fire flared up again this weekend and has burned 13 square miles. sprinklers have been set up in the lake village area and hoses are in place around the famous hotel in case the fire spreads. i know we expect the wildfires in the summer and the fall but it is always so sad to hear about that. >> in yellowstone it is an interesting policy if it is sparked by mother nature they don't put the fire out and i guess they have to figure it out and of course if it affects life and property they will take action. we have had gusty winds this the south. on the weather terrace you need anchor the mums down if you have purchased those. windy weather, when, now through wednesday and how high will the gusts be, 30 to 45 miles an hour. higher if you are up above the ridge tops. the wind 31 miles an hour at reagan national airport.

the time lapse tower cam show the high clouds increasing they will lower and thickn in to the afternoon. a thin band of showers are approaching from the west and that's along the front. at 74 degrees winds are south southwesterly at 17 miles an hour, again, gusting to 30. here there they are. this cluster of rain showers. let's check one out. toward woodstock and this is where i got soaked to the bone hiking this weekend. this shower moving to the east. we are not expecting a lot of rain but the precursor to gusty winds. let's inspect what is going on. a band of showers through the district now to 4:00 and after that things will be drying up. i don't expect a lot of heavy rain. the temperatures will quickly climb in the upper to middle 80s. cumberland you have had your high today. you are now at 63 degrees but earlier highs in the lower 70s.

of money monday is james ward with jvj enterprises. he's here to address baby boomers who worry they may not be able to take care of themselves when they get older. glad to have you here. >> thank you. >> there are resources and options there. you are talking about long-term care. what exactly is it? >> long-term care is an insurance that is available for individuals in the event they become unable to care for themselves on a daily basis. usually the activities are referred to of daily living which include bathing, eating, transferring getting from the bed to the chair or something like that and that insurance actually provides money for the hiring of individuals who can assist in those activities. >> usually they have to prove they meet at least two of those things they listed above. >> exactly. >> what is the difference. one big question is lot of people is ask what is the

difference between long-term care and medicaid. >> long-term care is an insurance that the individual will pay for him or herself. with medicaid, medicaid is a government program. it is jointly administered by each state as well as the federal government and actually it is actually created for and was designed for indigent person. it is actually a form, a modified form of a welfare program because you have to have no assets or resources in order to qualify for medicaid. >> which leds me to the question about cost. i know this is one of the more costly forms of disabilitity. and a lot of cases people that buy it early won't use it for a few years and hopefully decades and like you mentioned beforehand maybe not at all. >> it can be costly. on average if you get the insurance before the age of 40, the cost could be 800 or less.
