of peace. the allege assault happened in august. he's one of five people accused in the fight. no comments from college parks. now to an update to a 9news now exclusive, a story that our bruce johnson first reported at 11 last night. the office of jim graham says he's not a target but a subject in an investigation surrounding bribes and dc taxis. thursday, they arrested his chief of staff, ted loza, accused of taking bribes in exchange for having graham introduce legislation which favored cab companies. graham denies that. sources tell people that last week, he denied any wrong doing. >> do you feel pressured? >> mr. loza has never to my recollection spoken to me about any element of any taxicab bill that i was considering. >> again, that was mr. graham last week. we requested an interview with

him today, but staffers said he was not available. bruce johnson will have a followup to his exclusive report. you'll see that tonight at six. the maryland neighborhood is in shock after three masked men broke into a home and killed a man out here. that happened early monday morning and the 39-year-old, tyrone richardson leaves behind a wife and four young children. audrey barns joins us live here in the newsroom with more. audrey, police are thinking this is a random crime? >> atina -- anita, it is still early. they were killed during an armed robbery attempt at their home. they stole the family's mercedes and left him dead inside his house with his wife and kids who were not hurt. >> this guy, man, he would wake up with a smile on his face, his four children and his wife was his joy. >> reporter: dameon had just talked to tyrone richardson on saturday night. after hearing that his 9-year-old son, tyler, scored his first touchdown on the opening drive of the game earlier that day for the lake

harbor seahawks. four hours later, his friend was dead. >> i lost a very good friend, you know, my family, my son is affected by this. and you know, i mean, it's really hard. it's just a real bad situation. >> reporter: police say richardson was killed by three masked mens separating them and their wife and four kids. fleeing in the family's black mercedes. >> just more shocked than anything. just scary that it happens that close to your home in your neighborhood. >> reporter: there are some break-ins in the neighborhood, one just last week. so far, no link to the murder. but the police, they have stepped up patrols in the community, not used to such violence. >> my coworkers on the job told me about it. i was like what? >> reporter: flowers left outside the home triggered a painful memory for a neighbor who asked not to be identified. >> i grew roses across the street, i would cut the roses and give it to me. >> reporter: now, they are left to raise the three boys, taoáeu

also looking for answers following the discovery of the body today. and the man, he was found or a man was rather found on the playground behind the lutheran school out there. police say he was murdered but not released his name. >> a gas leak at the penn mar shopping center in maryland has washington gas working and looking for answers. the leak was found at marshall that shut their doors this morning before reopening again. 9news now was there with some customers that showed up. they were locked out and they did not know why the storm was killed. no signs were posted. after we told them the reason some remember the gas leak explosion that happened in this same shopping center back in may. >> it'll be real public for them. just for them to put that over there. and the water coolers too. >> so you're taubing about the same issues that he had, a little further down? and they are having here? okay. well, they need to get that taken care of. i'm glad that it's closed.

the judge's order. he's been indicted for the the june 10 shooting at the museum in southwest washington. special officers, steven johns, he was killed. and he was seriously hurt. when other guards, they returned fire. police, they released the name of the woman who was killed by the falling tree in rockville. the 63-year-old, diane helen leech, doing yard work yesterday when that tree came crashing down. she was discovered by her husband who quickly called 911. >> well, fire rescue units arrived on the scene, finding a 63-year-old female. she was under the approximate tree. the tree was dead and fallen out there and possibly with the rain that we received in the area. >> despite their best efforts. the rescue units were unable to save to them and where she could come for them. chances are, you are a distracted driver on the beltway at least on some point. >> a report out today from aaa finds more than half of us are distracted by the cell phones

while on the beltway. >> that also means text messages, calls, or checking the blackberries. and they are so bad that it is now an epidemic of distracted driving. the organization is teaming up with the department of transportation this week to highlight dangers, especially the highway workers because of the distracted workers, particularly with all of the hot lane works going on right now in virginia. in the meantime, the new survey finds they lead the nation when it comes to the number of accidents involving the collisions with deer. and the average cost of the collisions, they are about $2,950. the company offers some tips to avoid these animals on the road. remember, they are most active between 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. use the high beam headlines as much as possible to illuminate the area where they are most likely to enter the roadways. if there are lots of trees, keep in mind, they generally travel in herds. if you see a deer, there's a strong possibility that other animals are nearby. if a deer collision seems
