last night. the incident triggered a major response by police there. scott broome is live with new details. scott, tell us. >> as you are about to see, this woman we interviewed today is terrified. we are not going to show her face, but her child, a 7-year- old girl was one of three children who was approached by two very suspicious men in an old pickup truck. >> we fear for our life and we are actually getting out of our lease today and moving away from here, because my daughter is just absolutely petrified. >> a seven-year-old so scared she asked her mom to hide her bike in the car today, to keep the suspected abductors from finding her apartment at the villages of laurel. >> the truck was parked right in this area where that limb is handing down. >> reporter: the police spokesman said two men parked next to a cut through path, tried to lure three children playing nearby to their old blue pickup truck at about 6:45 in the evening. just then, the mother of one boy shouted for the kids to get

away. and as the seven-year-old girl fled, the truck followed her more than a block to her apartment building, but the driver took off when the girl's mother came outside. >> she said that he had 3d glasses on, kind of like maybe kid friendly glasses. he had curly hair. he told her, you know, asked him how old they were and told him, you know, come here. don't be scared. >> everything leads up to a possible abduction and that is the way we are treating this. >> police are looking for an old battered mazda pickup truck like this one. they say it is light blue, it has a dented driver's side fender. it is driven by two hispanic men and the license plate includes the characters 641nw. >> we don't know who these people are. we don't know what they are up to. they are trying to lure children over to the truck. so it's very important that we find these two individuals. >> and this really has just traumatized her and really have put a hold on her life and it shouldn't, because she is only

seven. >> now police last night used a reverse 911 system to alert just about all the residents around here by phone and police tell me that produced a very large number of return phone calls and tips. so tonight, police are around the area watching this while detectives try to sort through those tips and try to identify the vehicle or the two men who are inside it suspected of this possible abduction attempt. in laurel, scott broome, 9news now and wus wusa9.com. now a trucker that got into a wreck this morning. that shut down southbound lanes for hours. police say he may have been high on pcp when he slammed his vehicle into the guardrail on the inner loop between branch avenue. an officer spotted him and got away from the wheel before he could hurt anyone. the driver was sited and hauled off to the hospital for drug

testing and detox. maryland's new speed camera law is now in effect. some of the first cameras are going up in highway construction zones to keep workers there safe. on i-95 in laurel, electronic signs will warn you before those camera signs. here's a look at the other new laws. you can no longer send a text message. that ticket will cost you $500 in maryland. teen drivers must now be 16 1/2 years old to get a license and no one gets a full license until 18. also starting today, capital punishment is limited to cases with biological or video taped evidence or a taped confession. and any u.s. or maryland flag bought with state money and displayed on state property must be made in the united states. the obama administration is working on new federal indivisible would ban texting by truck and coach drivers. yesterday, the president signed an executive order banning all federal workers from texting while driving on government

business. officials say nearly 6,000 people were killed last year by distracted drivers. well it was called the million med march, but the doctors who marched on the capitol today were only about 150 strong at the height of their rally. the members of the medical community from across the country are part of a grass roots effort to have their voices heard in the healthcare reform debate. it had a will the of ideas and most of them centered on less government involvement in healthcare. >> probably more government involvement equals less healthcare. i mean, there's not one program the government has run that run efficiently, on budget, and done what it is supposed to do. >> the doctors told their representatives in congress they want a seat at the table in the current debate. if you plan to visit family or friends in the hospital, don't head out there just yet. one hospital in our area is changing their policy to protect you from the seasonal flu and h1n1 virus. digital correspondent joins us live from fairfax with more

details. lindsey. the restrictions went into effect here in all of their five hospitals today and it means that some people will not be allowed to see patients. >> a huge sign in the lobby makes it clear if you have flu- like symptoms, you are not welcome here. >> their loved ones don't want them to get flu on top of what they are already treated for. >> visitors are expected to use hand san highser. those with a cough or sneeze are asked to wear a mask. >> a mask will contain cough and sneeze droplets and hopefully reduce the spread of the flu. >> visiting hours have been reduced to four hours a day. >> i think that limiting the hours during all of this epidemic and things that are going on is really a smart idea. >> and anyone under age 18 is not allowed. even if it's the patients brother or sister. >> it is mostly effecting children. in fact, the largest percentage

45 to 55. winds turning south, southeasterly at 10. now get into temperatures tonight, probably about 4 degrees higher than last night, plenty cool. don't get me wrong. 45 in great falls. and 46 in fairfax. we are looking at temperatures around the beltway, bethesda, 51. get out toward bowie, you will be in the mid 40s. temperatures right now, cool, but comfortable. 62 in alany. 63 for vienna and 64 in dumfries. tomorrow morning, partly sunny and cool. a slight chance of a shower. primarily late in the morning, but i wouldn't worry about it. 50s and 60s. winds turning out of the south. that's a warm wind. by afternoon, partly sunny, breezy, warmer. we'll keep the chance of a shower in. the bulk of the day is going to be just fine. high temperature is about 75 and that is average for this time of year. winds increasing out of the south at 10 to 15. that will pump up warmer air for us. let's talk about october. the first, today, average high, 75 and 56.

by the end of the month, it is 64 and 45. almost 3 1/4 inches of rain fall for average. believe it or not, we average a trace of snow downtown and we average a tenth of an inch down toward dulles. hard to believe. still cutting the grass. satellite picture, radar combined. here's the front. this is the front itself. most of the energy is pulling up north with apparent low pressure system and that's what is sucking up most of the energy and moisture away from us. the front itself will go through here as we go through late tomorrow night and early on saturday. but it's not going to have much moisture with it. we may see a skinny line of showers develop and that's it. the bulk of saturday will turn out to be in good shape. right now we are okay. clear skies, there's a few clouds back to the west. we'll see increasing clouds a little bit after midnight. zone forecast, all six zones on our website at wusa9.com. you can track those storms, even though they are in the midwest. check out our radar, you can track them to your
