23-year-old jessica goode of winchester died. 20-year-old was shot in the hand. the third student was not hurt. the individual was hunting on property near where it was three college students were on in the woods and this property is on the franklin county property. >> police say those students were not wearing any kind of reflective or specially colorful clothing, but they were walking in an open area. that hunter, 31-year-old jason did call 911. he is charged with manslaughter and was trespassing. an update now on to the investigation into a fatal police shooting in fairfax county. this one happened friday along route 1 just south of the alexandria line. today, fairfax county police say 52-year-old david masters did not have a gun when he was shot. officers thought he stolen flowers from a business. he was shot as he was trying to open his coat. and friends and family are mourning the death of a

montgomery county firefighter. scott doyle, he been in a coma since may after a base jumping accident. you may remember, doyle's family held fundraisers. he didn't work out, didn't make it. scott doyle was 34 years old. more belt tightening in maryland. approved another $361 million in budget cuts. that includes eliminating 112 state jobs. most of those are at a mental health clinic in chestertown that will be closing. >> just one day after it was rejected by the board of elections, two groups are suing to get the same sex marriage initiative on the ballot in the nation's capital. the board ruled yesterday that putting that measure on the ballot would violate the city's human rights law. lawyers for the alliance defense fund and stand for marriage dc say that reasoning is invalid. >> and budget concerns are one of the reasons triple-a is not expecting a big jump in the

number of us traveling for thanksgiving. dave is live at national airport with more on the groups travel outlook. dave. >> derrick, triple-a forecasted travel will rise a little bit. 1.5%. not like the drop it took last year when it went down 25% because of the economy. air travel itself, that will be down a little bit, but that's not as off as much as it has been since the year 2000. >> going by air was in a lot more people's minds almost a decade ago. since 2000, the number of air travelers for the holiday has dropped by 2/3. >> this historic shift away from air travelers is driven by security hassles, reduced capacity, route choices, increasing fees, and newsworthy delays and cancellations. >> triple-a believes baggage fees make it difficult for potential air travelers estimate their cost. the average price for household is expected to be $718 with about a third of it being spent

on transportation. money issues still are the biggest factor in the forecast. >> the economy continues to weigh heavily on leisure travel decisions, even on this important family holiday. >> triple-a believes better economic news will prevent another large drop in holiday travel this year. they think the other big story news will have little impact. >> it was more of a shock. similar to rising gas prices. people immediately pulled back and in this instance, people are cautious, you see the purell dispenceers everywhere. it has not caused a major impact this year. >> derrick, triple-a says the average travel length this year is expected to be 815 miles and we have exactly one week until the big give get away. ladies and gentlemen, start your engines. >> dave at reagan national, thank you, my friend. we still have plenty of time to plan for thanksgiving. right now, plenty of folks trying to get home for tonight. >> derrick, it has not been a

welcome back. we are back with a visit to capitol hill. that is where volunteers were helping put together 2000 care packages for women in uniform. the event was organized by the uso and those care packages compare skin, nail, and hair products, snacks, and refreshments. today, the nation secretary of health services came out with statements about the new government panel's recommendations on breast cancer prevention. ever since they were announced on monday. kathleen issued a statement reading in part, we quote, keep doing what you have been doing

for years. talk to your doctor about your individual history, ask questions and make the decision that is right for you, end quote. she spoke with katie couric on tonight's cbs evening news. >> it is one panel of scientists and health officials who have actually waded into an area where the recommendations have gone back and forth for years. we think this is one more piece of evidence that should be reviewed. everybody's health history is different. everybody's family history is different and those become the critical factors when you are looking for breast cancer. >> she did go on to say the task force presented new evidence for consideration, but that does not set policy. right now, cbs news is holding a web cast with a panel of experts on this study and you can see it by logging on to wusa9.com and clicking on living well. a lot of you written into the mail bag about this story and hear some of your comments in a few minutes. in light of her comments, we want to know what you think now.

coverage to 31 million uninsured americans. the congressional budget office estimates the bill would reduce the federal deficit by $127 billion over ten years. the measure is expected to be introduced later this week. and in tonight's flu alert, congressional questions about the shortage of h1n1 vaccines. health officials appeared before two committees on capitol hill today. and edward, one of the companies that makes the vaccine said response by vaccine makers has been good, but regulatory delays has held up distribution. hopes to hold a clinic on saturday. the county trying to target folks in the high risk groups who have yet to be able to get one of those shots. that including pregnant women and people between the ages of 6 months and 24 years old. the clinic will be open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the fairfax county government center. we have more information on that clinic at wusa9.com. just click on living well to

get to our flu alert page. and an environmental alert tonight out of california, where tvs could start flying off the shelves in just two years. that's when brand-new requirements will take effect for all televisions to be more energy efficient. state regulators passed that mandate today and it's the first of its kind in the nation. right now, only a quarter of the tvs on the market meet the state's new standards. the california energy shows 10% of the electricity you use in your home. >> and these tires were supposed to help create a rete, but last week's nor'easter brought them back to shore instead. you are looking at a high view of them. nearly 2,000 tires washed up on the beach and will be taken to ocean city and be disposed of in a dirch way. and speaking of ocean city, crews were finishing up their survey. the three person teams expecked to report those findings by next monday, ocean city was

breaking news out of calvert county. sky 9 live over the scene of a nasty accident. two cars collided in huntingtown and several people have had to be transported with serious injuries. we'll have more on this story tonight on 9news now at 11:00. >> some strong reaction to new breast cancer exam recommendations and very little of it is positive. debra from virginia speaks from many of you when she says she is confused. i do hate getting mammograms; but it was a self-exam that i was doing when i found a lump in my breast. i had just had a digital mammogram a year ago and it detected nothing. i was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer. i had my breast cancer surgery, followed by radiation. self-examination should not be

eliminated as every person is their own best advocate for their bodies and kara from virginia says she was 28 years old when she found her own lump. so young, she says her doctor did nothing for four months. by then, the tumor was five cent meters and spread to two lime f nodes. there was no history in my family and look what happened to me. i am 46 years old now and was able to see my children grow up. i am appalled at these new recommendations. what planet are they from? and ann wonders why we didn't ask more questions about this study. questions like, does this have anything to do with healthcare reform? it was afterall a government study. one of the physicians on your panel had the honesty, only the beginning. and listen to dc from stanton, virginia. at best, the findings of this study, 100% objective panel are to save the government money,
