unfortunately. the winter storm warnings for the district and prince george's county and the fairfax county pointing north up towards 7 a.m. we'll come back and talk more about this storm and talk about the morning commutes on wednesday as derek eluded to. we'll talk about a bigger storm for the weeks end. >> a lot of white stuff on the doppler 9,000. thank you, topper. one local hardware store tells us that they usually sell about 150 bags of the salt melting out there. as of this morning, they sold 850 bags. not surprising since we have seen 24 inches of snow this winter. that's for the years put together. surae chinn live for us in alexandria where the crews are getting ready to go at it one more time, surae? >> reporter: i'm true plenty more. they are getting ready for that salt mix busy. they will be getting ready to start being on the road. it started snowing at 5:00 in alexandria. we'll step out of the way here.

it's been snowing, but not sticking much. we're told that there are some 50 to 60 trucks waiting to be loaded up here. tons of it throughout the evening. really, their main concern will be tomorrow evening and tonight as well. they had continue to push. they have been pretreating the roads since yesterday with the brine. now, they are loaded up with the real stuff. crews are now staged across the region. they are at $27 million snow removal budget is wiped out and has been since last saturday's storm. they are $6 million over budget. spending about $1 million a day for an average storm like this one. if you're talking about the potential for a big storm on saturday, they will be spending a lot more. but crews say that does not change the fact that they will be treating and clearing the roads just the same. looking at 495 right now, it's look pretty good. so that is the very latest

collision after a car plows into two men ho are stopped by the side of the road and the murder investigation. police looking for the person who killed a mother and her son in northern virginia. i'm peggy fox the at the scene of the terrible crime. a double homicide. this is the home where the bodies of the mother and her 8-year-old son were found. >> that is very terrible. >> she was killed. the son was killed. >> oh, oh my goodness. >> reporter: 8-year-old paul wilson, was a second grader at porter traditional school in dale city. his mother, 41-year-old nova from bulgaria, a friend says, had several rental properties. >> how were they killed? >> we cannot release that information at this time. >> who found them? >> it was the victim's husband. >> reporter: this man, a bulgarian friend of the victim says he picked up her husband from a metro station last

the fender bender actually knew each other. coincidence, faith, and then sudden death. >> reporter: well, opening statements today in another high-profile crash in our area. they heard some of the 911 calls from the morning of the deadly speed racing crash for nearly two years ago. prosecutors say that taylor and them were racing when they plowed through a crowd of spectators along the indian head highway. taylor faces vehicular manslaughter charges it in his trial. the secretary, hood, says toyota was a little slow, responding to those pedal problems that let to many recalled vehicles. sending out fixes this week for 2.3 million vehicles out of fear that the gas pedals can stick when they step on the gas. federal officials needed to wake toyota up to the seriousness of the problem. tonight, we're learning federal regulators also complains about the power steering system in the chevy

cobalt. the highway safety traffic administration says they have received 1132 complaints about the difficult seus, controlling that car. and that included 11 accidents and one injury. the review covers almost a million cobalt for the model years 2005 to 2009. and drivers are one step closer to going just a little faster in the state of virginia tonight. and today, both the house and the senate passed the bills that would raise the limit to 70 miles an hour in some parts of the state. supporters say it is just a common sense reform that will make sure that traffic keeps on moving in the commonwealth. they argued that they have no business increasing the speed limit in the face of the crisis. and they are expected to sign this measure. are you ready to pick it up? at the higher speed limit that made sense? or is it just going to be an excuse for people that are already going too fast to go even faster? share your thoughts in an

intensive care tonight. a spokesperson says that the congressman is suffering from complications following the gallbladder surgery last week. the 77-year-old republican is from pennsylvania. and he is serving his 19th year in cobb. i believe he's a democrat. remember when ground hog day is just one little fellow being pulled out of pennsylvania? well today, we counted at least nine case of animals being counted on the forecast of the weather. let's get to the original. the good old feel. thousands of people are gathering and gobblers, don't you love that name? the gobblers knob this morning to find out the famous rodent that would saddle the verdict. well, he did. that means they are predicting another six weeks of winter. but then the controversy begins. this is staten island, chuck and his forecast, not quite in the agreement with them. you see when they came out of the winter home, they did not see the shadow.

they grabbed that winter box. things were not so smoothly in georgia with that leaked. he's probably the second most famous furry progress most -- prognosis. climbing to trees and then they hid from his handlers. they are petty sure he missed the shadow in all of that. they are counting on the predictions of six more weeks of winter and let's face it, it doesn't seem like he's out on the limb with that as well. >> whether the way that things are going that is pretty safe. >> i think about 93% of the time for them. >> to go with that, you know what, spring is right around the corner. >> right. we have a winter warning in affect t-r for them. not a huge storm. getting below freezing for them in the north and the west, beginning to accumlate. here is your forecast first. the next three days. we're looking at temperatures in the low 40s for them tomorrow.

really a nice pretty day for them in the morning. low 40s on partly thursday for them. then as we have been eluding to for a while, perhaps another storm. a bigger storm for them as we get into friday evening and friday afternoon for them that they have been carrying on into friday and temperatures in the 30s. tonight, the warnings, two to five inches. a mix south and east that will keep them down to an inch or two in charles county, st. maries county. even into extreme maryland. you'll see two inches. turning northeasterly. temperatures below freezing out it there anyway. 26 to 32. let me show you the live doppler radar. access this on the web any time you would like. the solid areas crossing essentially where they is have been posted out there. and it's going to be a mix in some of the rain and the snow, not an ice storm. just a mix to cut down your accumulations a lot. you may end up with anything. let's go back to the computer. >> we'll talk about the general two to five inches across the

metro area. one or two down to the south. and you go south of that. keep going down there. maybe an inch or less. because of the mix there. and essentially, everything sort of shuts off the accumulating snow that shuts off in the morning. here is the microcast. doing a pretty good job with this. they look pretty good. more snow by midnight. that looks pretty good for them and they start moving out here pretty quickly. and they could have a little batch of the flurries during the morning rush. but i think the real accumulating snow would be out of here before the rush. that would give them at least a couple of hours with no cars on the road to get ahead of the road. after that, we cleared out on thursday. they were in pretty good shape in terms of the temperatures too. and right now, down to 34. and down to 34 at vienna. more and more is going to begin to stick to the roadways. returning partly cloudy, 20s and 30s. and by the afternoon, partly cloudy. a little breezy. but seasonable. temperatures are in the low 40s. the spot on average for them at

10 to 15. you mite need sunglasses tomorrow. and you'll need to keep your windshield fluids full for the next couple of weeks anyway. clean your headlights, the taillights. it is going to refreeze again tomorrow night. that means it'll be slippery at least in parts on thursday morning. satellite picture radar combined. there's the storm. they are down south to wilmington. once this batch rolls through, this will not give us any additional moisture. that'll be about it. next seven days, low 40s tomorrow. low 40s on thursday. here comes the next storm. potentially big coastal on friday night into saturday. cold on sunday and monday. and derek, low and behold on tuesday, we have more snow for them possibly temperatures in the low 40s. and really, it's very rare for us to have snow on top of snow. to have snow on top of snow on top of snow is even more unusual. and to have snow on top of the snow, i have never seen that. >> well, you know, we'll talk about that in a minute, wheal i'm sick of the snow, you love it. we'll see you in a minute. ó?xxeccúú

in the mail bag tonight, the big toyota recall says they own a 2007 avalon and one unhappy caverner -- camper. the company should know which numbers need a replacement. and there should be a place where i put in my vin and figure out everything that i need to know about my car. secondly, because of the sereness -- seriousness of the cars, they should be paying for rental cars for the owners. as when in the heck is it going to stop? last night, i asked if anyone was sick of the white stuff and

apparently no one is. 7-year-old pretty straightforward, i'm not tired of the snow. okay. wendy from virginia, in fact writes, bring it on. i love the snow, the more the better. and karen from alexandria says, stop being a weather wimp. we in the dc area have it relatively easy. many of us included where it snows in feet from october to may. and stop whining, learn to drive in and plow the white stuff. as they still predicted six more weeks. a good deal. all right, everybody seems to like the snow. and they did send a list of things that he does not like about it. the suv drivers who feel like they are seeing it and they cleaned the snow off the vehicle. nonfour wheel drivers on the road spinning all over the place, where are they doing
