welcome back to our special coverage of the latest snowfall to hit our region. i'm andrea roane. >> i'm bruce johnson. the weather team of howard bernstein and devon lucie are here and angie goff has the traffic. we begin with the latest closings and delays. >> let's start now in virginia. the following school systems are closed -- i was thinking you said the latest snee, but certainly not the last snow. we are wrapping up this one and our eyes are already focused on what's coming toward the end of

the week and that could be more significant than what we are dealing with. >> too early to talk about how much snow. you cringe when you think of it. >> only because so much can change but at least six inches. at least. that's a very conservative estimate. >> a minimum six but you won't go max. >> i don't want people to freak out. you say up to a potential of x and people only hear x and then oh my god i'm going to get it. i would be prepare for being at home on saturday. that's all. just be prepared. we will talk more about that tomorrow. let's talk about what is happening right now. start with live doppler hd. the snow just about over. you can see the last little slivers of precipitation to our south and east. i want to zoom in because it's very light right now but in to prince georges county, outside of the beltway, maybe northwestern charles you see a

little bit a little light snow shower activity still left on the backside of the system. to the east as we go across the bay we are seeing snow from queens town to almost east and mixing in a little as we get to saint michaels and tillman island. and then in southern maryland a little bit of light snow is leftover in calvert county. this is not really adding any accumulation. the the accumulating snow is over. on the weather computer, the storm system is pulling away. a flight to new york or boston. it may be delayed some. they have had a slow knight night with the snow there. and some snow showers of then backside of the storm. buffalo, cleveland, some mountains in southwestern pennsylvania. they will add to the ski areas numbers. they have been having gangbuster. >> it is early. >> i can say it, gangbuster.

upper 20s in the shenandoah valley. low 30sin southern maryland. the day at a glance, we will see some sun. flurries on the hour at national. going to the low 40s. angie goff is stepping in with the latest on the slick streets. we want to begin in rockville where we have westbound gude road closed at gaither road. it happened at 1:00 a.m. crews are trying to remove the fuel from the truck. as a result, take the 355 to red land road as the alternate. moving outside, 270 southbound, it is slick out here. might have some slushy spots. you want to take it slow. going northbound, we are getting word of an incident to the right shoulder near the shady grove exit. in to dc, north capitol street in northeast is closed between v and channing an we have police activity out there but the good news is that the crews are directing traffic, telling

them which way to go. outside, 66 eastbound, hey, virginia, the main interstate is checking out okay. traffic is light. the inner and outer loop, no incidents or accidents to report. now, back to you. right now we want to look outside at the latest conditions. >> 9 news now's kristin fisher is in silver spring, maryland with the latest conditions there. >> reporter: i'm standing in the woodmore shopping center in four corners and i'm happy to report the roads are looking decent this morning and a lot of that has to can with the hard work of overnight crews an we have been watching this bobcat an hour now and he's been doing quite a job. he's cleared this entire parking lot at the woodmore shopping center and when we got here the entire place was covered in snow. he's really done quite a job this morning. the snow has stopped falling finally. we want to show you what it looked like when we were

driving here at 2:30 than mooing. the snow was coming down pretty hard when we hit the roads and we saw a lot of snowplows on the streets. a lot of salting trucks because the snow has an icy layer once you get the fluffier stuff off the top. a lot of snowplows an sanding trucks. the main roads are looking really good. haven't seen any standing snow on any of the roads. once you get to the side streets you have to watch for your driveways. plan for extra time in your morning commute this morning but you know what, so far so good. washingtonians should be getting used to the winter weather. but the one thing that sets this snowstorm apart from the others it is absolutely beautiful. it is so nice to be out here this morning. it is not feeling too cold an the trees are beautiful. the snow is really sticky and wet and it is creating this

beautiful white tree state. as you drive down the street and make your morning commute. i know it is cold and rough waking up this morning but at least you have got some pretty scenery to look at because of the snowstorm. bruce and andrea, back to you. >> agree with kristin. we ought to be used to this by now. >> we should be used to it and there is a study that says if you drive a pretty route it eases your commute. i'm not sure if they mean during the wintertime during snow but a pretty commute eases your commute. 9 news now jessica doyle is in tysons corner with more. good morning, jessica. >> i think we are all ready to cry uncle with the snowstorms we have been getting lately. more snow is in the forecast but it is a winter wonderland out here. it is beautiful and that makes things a little easier. if you have to get up early and go to work and if you can't

wait longer in the morning we want to tell you what the road conditions are like. grab the cup of coffee and here's the deal. around the beltway it is looking pretty good in northern virginia. vdot has been out all night long with the snow removal truck and the salt brine trucks. they have been out and melting the conditions and as you can see on the roads they are actually wet. all of the snow is gone from the main roads. and a lot of minor roads have been treated, as well. and the neighborhood, the side streets, you know from saturday those roads probably weren't -- they may not have gotten to those areas. so you are potentially going to have problems on my own street we had a school bus stopped for two hours yesterday, even before the snow started to fall. those are the conditions folks should expect. if you are going to clean out your car, getting ready to go to work, we want to tell you the snow is very light and fluffy. this is great snowball weather.

fur going to stick around with the kids, if the kids have off, a great day to make snowmen and maybe snowball fights. something to think of later today. as for now, tysons corner, snow is no longer falling. back to you. the overnight snow fall led to problems for a tanker truck driver in montgomery county. truck overturned last night at 10:15. it happened in rockville. driver was trapped inside the truck and had to be pulled out by fire crews and taken to a nearby hospital. some of the fuel did spill from the tanker. cleaning up the spill is expected to take a few more more hours. so far the snow isn't making much of an afc at the airport. the crews have been cleaning the tarmac making sure it is ready for departure and alives. first plane is scheduled to take off shortly before 6:00 this morning. dulles and bwi also experiencing no problems we're

told. coming up on 4:39. yet another bailed out financial firm is preparing to pay out millions of dollars in bonuses. and president obama faces a barrage of bipartisan criticism about his budget proposal.

lanes are open at 355 and shady grove. in the news now at 4:00, president obama's $3.8 trillion budget outline drew bipartisan fire on captiol hill. republicans complain it doesn't address deficits enough and raises taxes too much. democrats fault the spending cuts. they suggest it could be difficult for many florida obama to win support for key parts of his budget even from members of his own party. a report says american international group is preparing to pay roughly $100

million in new bonuses. the bonuses will go to employees working in the company's financial products division, the same unit that helped to sink aig leading to a government bailout. aig is due to pay tens of millions of dollars to former employees who did not agree to concessions. americans love affair with top shelf liquor cooled last year. people drank more but turned to cheaper brands. also drank more at home and less at bars and restaurants. vodka remains america's favorite liquor, accounting for a third of the sales. sales of $4.5 billion. police make an arrest in the murder of a mother and her son. festivities have begun in miami. media day officially kicks off super bowl 44. it is 4:42. here's howard. >> andrea, absolutely gorgeous on the weather terrace and a beautiful snow has come to an

here's howard. we are trying to gather the snow totals. we will talk about what is going on. we had a beautiful snow. we will throw it to devon in a minute. we heard from kristin and jessica about the snowfall and we had a wet snow with temperatures around freezing and very little win. it came down and just stuck to everything. this sort of snow opposed to saturday's snow is the kind of snow you want to make an igloo or snowman. or a snowball fight and at jmu, chase is in the chat room at wusa9.com telling me they had 1,000 kids out there enjoying the packability of the snow. with more on that and how much fell we will throw it to my colleague devon on the weather terrace. >> i want to show you what we

talk about with packable snow. if you have gloves on it is hard to pack any way. that is a great snowball as you can see there. perfect to have a snowman or get together with friends in the backyard to throw a few around. we showed you what is going on in maryland. go to the weather computer and see what we have for the latest snow have seen so far in montgomery county, around there. this is a very thick, heavy, wet snow. i want to say if you are going

to go out and need to get out and about, wherever you need to go, clearing the car will take you longer. it is so heavy to get the snow off. i was having to get here early morning. i was taking my time but 20 to 30 minutes to get the car wiped off. >> we just got word fairfax county schools are not going today they have closed today. look at the next three days. mostly cloudy and 42. tomorrow some sunshine and 40 friday snow develops this the afternoon. this may mix in southern maryland and the northern neck. don't know where the rain/snow line will be but we think it will be south of us and this could be a bigger storm on friday in to saturday. the momslikeme.com bus stop forecast, don't know maybe some will go delayed today. mostly cloudy, upper 20s to mid- 30s. sunrise is 7:12 this morning. and then this afternoon, some sunshine. it could be partly to mostly

exploded over south texas in the last six to eight hours. a sign sign of the intensification of the storm and we will be watching that closely the next couple of days. the seven-day forecast, 42 today. 40 tomorrow. no problems. we will get the melting and here's storm number two. friday night and saturday, saturday could be a very snowy day a highs of freezing. dry often sunday and monday and storm number three by tuesday afternoon and evening. highs in the low 30s. >> make it stop. traffic has westbound gude road closed because of an overturned traffic tanker truck. 270 southbound. everything is okay there. going northbound we are running in to problems. at shady grove we are losing

three planes because of an understand den. crews are on the scene. moving to the beltway, the outer loop is clear and the inner loop as we switch the shot, just got word of an accident and then take it to the district. north capitol street between v and channing, police activity is holding steady out there. the good news is they are directing traffic. inbound new york avenue no problems from the times building to bladensburg and 95 northbound moving at speed fredericksburg to the mixing bowl but getting reports of snow and slush in express lanes. back to you. >> thank you. in other news this morning, an arrest has been made in the murders of a mother and son from dale city, virginia. police have identified the suspect as 47-year-old natalia wilson of arlington. police say she knew the victims. the husband found the bodies last night when he returned from work. no word on the possible motive.

andrea, it seems the saints and colts along with hordes of reporters got together for super bowl media day. it is the first big event of super bowl week but had to be moved indoors because of rain. we have the story. >> you would be surprised what super bowl players do when they are not answering questions. & all the single ladies. &. &. >> if you want it then you should have put a ring on it. >> beyonce has to be cringing. >> one of the things you notice about media day is this isn't all about football but fun. the saints have an angel on their

side. >> the event had a different feel this year because raining weather chased everyone indoors, but there was the usual stars like drew breeze and manning and most players waited for the big interview even if it was with an 11-year- old reporter. >> i asked them about being short because i'm short. >> reporter: the fun ended when the last question was asked and now it is all business as the saints and colts prepare for the biggest game of the year, cbs news, miami. >> we all thought the players were silly doing beyonce but you wouldn't tell that to their face. >> no, no way. >> you are watching a special edition of 9 news now. we will be back with the latest on the snow.

in news this morning, charges could come as early as today against michael jackson's physician.

dr. conrad murray administered two sedatives the day he died. they say prosecutors will charge the physician with involuntary manslaughter rather than take the case to a grand jury. going to be a big oscar season with more nominees than ever before. >> reporter: the nominations were announced questioned with a science fiction sensation and a war thriller leading the pact with nine apiece. thomas roberts reports from hollywood. >> i'm going to die, i'm going to die comfortable. >> reporter: many are calling it the david and goliath oscar battle.
