tonight. topper is in the weather center with more details and we've been here a couple days. maybe we should just stay here in the storm alert mode. >> be careful what you wish or say because it might happen. we are looking at a very large storm, a a classic coastal storm, you will. let's start with the computer and give you sort of the timetable, if you will. here's the deal. weekend storm looks big. time frame friday afternoon through saturday, maybe through most of saturday quite frankly. not a pure snow for everyone, so different than the december storm. we're lacking some arctic air. we may see rain in southern arizona and up in annapolis for a while especially friday night and it goes back to snow with surface temperatures around freezing and temperatures upstairs just below freezing and the track is still not set. when we get that track set, then we'll talk about amounts and we'll talk about amounts tomorrow, but there's still some uncertainty. now that said, winter storm watch covers pretty much the entire metro area, goes into

effect friday afternoon and continues through saturday. where's the storm now? there it is gathering strength already in texas and the western gulf of mexico. it will pull out of the western gulf of mexico and move off the carolina coast which if you've lived here any amount of time know that is about perfect. we'll come back and break down the storm farther and talk about slick spots tonight, not done with yesterday's storm yet. back to you. >> we'll see if some of those wet spots are impacting the evening rush. >> we have an accident blocking travel lanes on inner loop approaching the bw parkway. we have some lanes closed in that area and see some delays approaching the accident. well, let's head outside to 270 where we're seeing delays building up right now, montgomery village area very light approaching germantown. after that drivers pick the pace towards clarkbsurg. moving onto 66, not seeing any traffic, nor accidents on this route. so far so good crossing my fingers for folks on 66 moving

well to route 123. finally we'll go to metro vre mark one running on time. good news there. >> thanks, patranya. we've got some new information tonight about toyota. it was another day of confusion and mixed messages for toyota drives caught up in the massive safety recall -- drivers caught up in the massive safety recall. during a hearing in the federal budget transportation secretary ray lahood today said if you own a toyota affected by the recall you should stop driving it. >> my advice is if anybody owns up with these vehicles, stop driving it. -- owns one of these vehicles, stop driving it. take it to a toyota dealer because they believe they have the fix for it. >> that comment added fuel to the fire. then afterwards while talking to reporters lahood reversed course. >> what i said in there was obviously a misstatement. what i meant to say, what i thought i said was if you own one of these cars or if you're in doubt, take it to the dealer and they're going to fix it. >> toyota thanked lahood for

the clarification and the part needed to fix the sticky throttle has already started to arrive at dealerships. our scott broom spent the day with customers at one dealership trying to get their toyotas fixed and joins us live via skype. >> reporter: well, you talk about those parts being out. they are here at darr cars toyota in silver spring and guess what? the fixes started today just about three hours ago, the first customer left with a fixed recalled vehicle. so the hype is over. the recall fixes are underway. >> today is the day. >> reporter: tammy darvish a car dealer turned crisis manager. in the shops out back technicians bee began removing the potentially -- bee began removing the potentially sticky gas pedals affected by the recall. >> it's not that difficult. we do have to put the price on the repair, though.

>> our parts arrived in the middle of the night. we're in the process of updating our website. >> within the next hour we'll open up the floodgates for our customers to schedule appointments any time seven days a week 24 hours a day that best suits their schedule. >> reporter: the first customer to get the fix, francisco careas who had come in for an oil change and left as a minor celebrity. >> i come in for them to change the oil and they say well, the car has problems. they say fixed already. that's good. >> we're telling our customers plan on an hour by the time we check the vehicle in. we want to put it in the shop and complete the recall repair for a0a the sticky pedal and we want to also do a complete safety inspection and return the vehicle back to the customer and if for peace of mind, if nothing else, it's got to be worth that one hour. >> reporter: okay. so it's all happening right now at darr cars toyota. one very anxious corolla owner had her car towed in here

today. >> that was our scott broom reporting. we learned today that toyota has received more than 100 complaints about brake problems with its popular prius hybrid model. the prius is not included in the recent recall of millions of toyotas because of sticking gas pedals. we've got an update on that double murder investigation in dale city. prince william county police made an arrest in the murders of a dale city mother and child whose bodies were found stabbed to death in their home. that's where we find our peggy fox with the latest. >> reporter: lesli, police are here guarding the home because they're still inside collecting evidence. they do not believe this was a random crime. they say that the woman they've charged is the wife of the boy's father. here's what she looks like. 47-year-old natalia wilson. she's a russian citizen. she's charged with two counts of murder in the stabbing deaths of 41-year-old slavka naydenova and her 8-year-old son paul wilson.

she's married to paul's dad lester wilson. the couple lived in an apartment complex on columbia pike in arlington. the victim had been -- >> i think it's horrible. it's really scary to think that that could happen and just a terrible story. >> late last night the detectives arrested natalia wilson charging her with two counts of murder and the murder death with stabbing. >> reporter: the victim had been a mail order bride. officials say she had ties to the bulgarian mafia but police say none of that had to do with the murders they say. that is purely domestic. now police want to find whoever may have driven natalia wilson to this home monday night. they're looking for whoever did that to contact them with the information. i'm peggy fox reporting live in dale city. back to you. house lawmakers grilled the nation's intelligence director on capitol hill today. it comes after director dennis

officials say three children were left home alone when a fire broke out in their southeast apartment. security camera video shows smoke filling the hallway at 1920 naylor road. a neighbor tried to get into the apartment where a 5-year- old boy and his two young sisters were but it took teamwork from d.c. firefighters to get to the kids who had stopped breathing. >> went down the hall lau to the right, did our search where we had two children on the bed. the middle one i found at the bottom of my feet. >> by the time all three got to children's hospital they were

breathing but in critical condition. investigators say a burner had been left on the gas stove and that is what started the fire. a judge will soon decide whether the legal fight continues over wal-mart's plans to build a super center near a civil war battlefield. the focus of this fight is in orange county, virginia, near the wilderness battlefield and today the judge listened to more than three hours of arguments. it's all about a lawsuit filed by a historic preservation groupful several of them and county residents -- group, several of them and county residents over plans to build a store less than a mile from the battlefield. the wilderness is where general ulysses s. grant and robert e. lee first met in battle 145 years ago. baltimore mayor sheila dixon steps down tomorrow. today she gave a farewell address at a city government meeting. dixon said it's been a privilege to serve as mayor but is now starting a new chapter in her life. tomorrow she will be sentenced for embezzling gift cards intended for needy families.

bring it on, modern body shop up in kensington. this nasty, nasty winter has been very, very good for business there. they had four cars in that had things like broken axles from sliding on the snow and slipping into the curb, but if you're -- and i heard you -- you'd like to escape someplace warm, lesli, here's an idea. the americas cup starts in sunny spain next week and you can get out before friday's storm. >> you can go to valencia, spend a few days, see the race and my thought would be fly to the canaries, you know, the carnival for mardi gras in the canaries. that would be a lot of fun, hook back through madrid, spend a few days there, get a little culture, see the museum and fly home. >> reporter: there are still tickets and hotel rooms available right now in valencia. it's about 58 degrees in the canary islands, 68 degrees.

good news then, temperatures probably above freezing. it will take a while to accumulate, heavy snow friday night into saturday, big storm taking shape, only about 32 saturday. weekend storm looks big, time frame friday afternoon through saturday. get your errands done tomorrow, thursday. heavy snow is possible friday night into early saturday morning and travel can be very difficult by midnight on saturday. tonight just a few sprinkles. otherwise clearing and cold, a couple slick spots now after midnight. if it looks wet, it may actually be ice, low temps in the 20s. winds northwesterly at five to 10. we'll check out our doppler radar -- always check out our our doppler radar at wusa9.com. 38 in chantilly, 38 dumfries, 38 chesapeake beach, 38 in remington, 38 for our friends in shenandoah. tomorrow morning mostly sunny, cold start, winds northwesterly 10 to 15. by afternoon, though, partly

sunny and seasonable, a very nice day to get stuff down and some more melting tomorrow, too with highs in the low 40s and winds won't be a factor, northwesterly at 10. so it's going to feel quite nice. things you need tomorrow and really for the foreseeable future, sunglasses, windshield fluid. clean your headlights and taillights. when you get a big film of salt on your headlights, they don't cast any lights. we'll see refreezing again thursday night if everything melts thursday and go below freezing thursday night. satellite picture and radar combined, here's where the storm is taking shape now in the southern plains and really the energy eventually will end up in the western gulf of mexico. that's where our big storms come from. it's going to move from the western gulf of mexico across the southeast. one primary low pressure may kind of die out in the tennessee valley and then secondary development occurs off the north carolina coast and that becomes the big bear, so to speak, and brings a tremendous amount of moisture and also wraps around cold air.

ironically enough we don't have the cold air with this storm that we did in december before winter technically began. right now we have a few clouds and sprinkles to the north. i think clouds will thin tonight and temperatures will end up back into the 20s. next seven days 42 tomorrow, nice day, snow breaking out friday afternoon. it will break out much earlier south and west of town down toward culpeper and stanton and work its way northeastward. heavy snow possible friday night into saturday. only around freezing on saturday, 32 on sunday and monday, but we're dry. another little storm comes at us tuesday with highs only in the upper 20s. we'll have plenty of arctic air by then and then mid-20s wednesday. clouds hang tough. mountain snow showers will continue and again the tricky thing about this in terms of amounts, we'll have a little rain mix in, probably a little sleet mixed in especially to districts south and east and that's going to affect your accumulations, but it looks like a big storm. >> bruce was talking about getting away to sunny places.
