5:00 am
good morning, everyone. i'm andrea roane. well, this sounds familiar. let's start our morning with school closings. in virginia all of these schools are closed today -- well, howard bernstein is here with our weather. angie goff has our traffic. we begin with howard.
5:01 am
>> yeah. >> you are done. >> i'm speechless. i'm sitting there yesterday looking at the models and how much moisture is coming and say i can't believe twice in one season. >> this is a weatherman's dream. >> you know something, when i was excited in december. now it is like okay, i'm not so sure. talk about what is happening. winter storm warnings are up. i want you to see the scope of the storms. warnings out to ohio and now on long island, to the carolinas, all the white counties have winter or storm warnings. pink counties, delaware, coastal new jersey blizzard warnings and some could be extended closer to us later tonight. we'll see if the winds pick up enough. that's the key right there but the snow is coming. we are watching the moisture move in from the southwest. snowing already toward roanoke and blacksburg. i think places like charlottesville may be snowing by 7:00 or 9:00. if we can hold off the snow
5:02 am
until noon it might be good. if it comes in earlier, the school closings won't be early enough and we don't want the kids on the roads. 35 national. 30 up in martinsburg and gaithersburg. right now i'm thinking 9:00, cloudy and 35. some snow around noon and heavier snow by 5:00, if not by mid afternoon. could be several inches on the ground by 5:00. >> angie? >> thank you. overall so far so good outside on our roads across the region. 95 northbound lanes are wide open lorton to the mixing bowl. on the inner loop in virginia switching it to the maps all is a go from 95 past annandale and 66. speaking of the interstate, take it outside. nice and light light to inside the beltway. we will bring you over to 270 southbound. no tieups out of frederick past germantown to the split. and wrap it up with the capital

5:04 am
but a spokesman from the maryland state highway administration says that's where the similarities stop. he is predicting the storm to be much more severe than tuesday's snowfall. >> it appears to be a heavy snowstorm, opposed to other ones that have been light, fluffy, now plow it one time, and one shot of salt. doesn't look like that will be here. this is about managing expectations for people out there. >> keep in mind there's only so much these road crews can do until the snow stops to fall. authorities are telling everyone, don't even consider driving from friday night until at least sunday morning and even then you want to be careful about hitting the roads as people attempt to get to super bowl parties and what not. use public transportation whenever you can. they are urging everyone to hit the roads as early as possible friday afternoon. if you can beat the evening rush hour today, do it. the snow will already be
