that's the case. let's start with the advisories. now, the wind watch is now a high wind warning. pretty much for the entire metro area. doesn't include our friends, but does include all of southern maryland and all around the district and then to the north and the west. and that just means the sustained winds could be 40 and gusts could be over 50 miles per hour. it's pretty serious stuff. right now, winds are gusting to 41 and 32 at the river. but they are just going to get stronger as we go through the night. especially tomorrow. here's the deal, intense winds through friday. gusting over 50 miles per hour. check your flashlights and batteries. when you're driving late tomorrow night and wednesday. power lines and limbs, do not touch the powerlines. let me show you the doppler radar pretty quickly and out towards lowden county and over into charlestown. these are moving now from northwest to southeast. and these are going to move pretty much down the river into town in the next couple of hours. and they are just going to be increasing in the coverage. we'll coul back and talk about

the snow showers and the accumulations. >> all right. president obama, the congressional republicans today in the extraordinary televised health care summit. we have the very latest on that. >> reporter: lesli, tempers flared at lawmakers as they battled it out on how best to cure the ailing health care system. president obama hoped that they could find some common ground. >> reporter: sparks flew when senator john mccain and the president's 2008 election opponents accused mr. obama of renagging on the campaign promise. >> people are angry. and we promised them change in washington. and what we got was a process that you and i both said that we would change in washington. >> let me just make this point, john. because we're not campaigning anymore. the election is over. >> i'm reminded of that every

49% to 42% against the democrats moving ahead without gop support. >> we'll see how this plays out, andrea, thank you for that. >> you bet. a group of christian activists rallied in northeast dc today, demanding that congress not pass any health insurance reform that allows taxpayer funding for abortions. today's rally was scheduled to coincide with the president's health care summit. all right, let's switch gears literally and to find out how the evening rush is going. any trouble spots out there? >> no major accidents to report. but wind is the big issue on the bay bridge. you'll see how traffic out here, no big problems except for you can only go with the two-way traffic suspended right now. expect some delays. no problems heading towards the main bridge. and of course, debris on the roadways, also everything to watch out for as you head out to 395 here. big problem for washington boulevard all the way to duke street and then again on 95 from woodbridge to route 123. nothing blocking the travel lanes. with the winds flipping around, that could change in the next

few hours. and finally, 66 westbound. this is the slowest stretch that we're seeing out there so far, from 495 to 71. lesli, back to you. >> all right. three days of national transportation board hearings into last june's metro collision that killed nine people ended today. the hearing exposed glaring short comings, including unheated warning, not to recon figure electronics components around the system. that's suppose to automatically keep the trains from hitting each other. there was no closure for the mother of one crash victim. >> everybody was at work. and there was no one doing their job, okay? so now i have a bigger job. i have to go and tell my grandkids that their mother died because no one is doing their job. >> isn't that sad? >> it is really sad. >> the ntsb will now pour over the evidence that they have collected. the official findings of the cause of the crash that are not expected for several months. toyota's chief executive ensures that the transportation

secretary, that the company will advance to the next level. their meeting came after toyota's ruling and the appearance before the congressional panel. toyota apologized for any accident that toyota owners experienced. and he also said that he is confident that the electronics and the cars are not to blame for the acceleration problems. and toyota has recalled 8 million calls. one day after the trainer was killed by an orca at orlando's seaworld, new information about how she died and the fate of the whale. and this is not the first time that the killer whale named tilikum has shown violence. but they say that the whale will continue to perform. and janet choy with the story. >> reporter: an autopsy shows that the veteran trainer, dawn brancheau, died of drowning and multiple injuries when she was attacked by the 12,000 pound killer whale on wednesday. but tilikum will not be isolated from the other whales at sea world in orlando. the trainers will continue to work with the animals, despite the incident. >> at this point, it's too early. we need to talk about what we

need to do to still maintain him and take care of him. you know, we still need to physically see them. they are in the collection. >> the witnesses say that the 30-year-old man will snatch them by the shell from the platform of the pool and dragged her in. >> tilikum, just shot off like a rocket. and then he came back up, bobbed up, had something in his mouth. trainers had to coax him into a smaller pool and then they used the platform to lift the whale out of the water before they could free her from the jaws. diane gross said that her sister died doing what she loved. >> she talked about it her whole life, knew she wanted to work with the animals to see what they were doing. >> this is the third death that tilikum has been involved in. the whale was one of three orcas blamed for killing a trainer in 1991 after a woman fell into their pool in british columbia. and in 1999, the scratched and bruised body of the homeless man was found draped over tilikum. >> even though that he has had

two incidents, we're very careful about how we have worked with them. never getting into the water with the animal. >> janet choy, cbs news. they have suspended their killer whale show indefinitely. in orlando and san diego. for and in less than haflg an hour, a community in silver springs will gather for a candle light visual against violence. they are outraged by the rape of the 11-year-old girl. police say that two men grabbed the 6 sixth grader tuesday night as they were playing in a park near their home. they said that they dragged them to the apartment at carol avenue and raped her. officers have arrested both suspects. new at six, another high school teacher charged with vielating out there and submitting the court for the ongoing sexual relationship with one of the male students. >> the damage that has been called by the family in the school. in the community, without being out there.

night at 6:00. she was entrusted to handle money from fairfax county taxpayers. but police say that she used her position as the cashier for the circuit court office to boost her own bottom line. and sterling has been charged with embezzlement, fraud, forging the public record. 9news caught up with the issue as she arrived in her house today. >> i trust the people that i work with. and i expect that they will trust me. >> yes. >> and i think that there is an awful lot of misrepresentation there. and i'm not guilty. >> they had detected several regularities in the financial system. and this particular employee worked in an office where they had public contact every day. and the police, they are still compiling evidence in the case. no word on the exact amount of money that was allegedly taken. the fight over bringing slot machines to the county just got more contentious. a casino developer sued the board of elections. overlooking fraud in a petition drive aimed at blocking plans

for a casino at the mall. and the county prosecutors have decided the developer's allegations are serious enough to pass the case on to the office out state's prosecutor. we would love to take a gamble and say that we're not going to get any of this yucky stuff coming through. but the odds are what? >> here's the deal. we said that they would come anyway. the good news is that we won't have the snow. and that is actually a little tough for them. and the forecast for the next three days, we're looking at very strong winds tonight. and only in the 30s tomorrow. primarily morning snow showers and we could have a couple in the afternoon. but the best chance for the early mornings. maybe a leftover flurry in the morning. on sunday, it's quiet, partly cloudy with highs again in the middle 40s. all right, snow showers, they can't actually add up in the terms of the accumulation. the district south, a trace of two inches, that's about it. the further south you get, you'll have just a trace. and two to four inches

possible. howard county, up towards baltimore and extreme eastern and northern sections of montgomery county. two to four inches there. between now and saturday. and again, snow showers, much like the summer showers could be pretty intense after a while. speaking of intense, look at the winds, 40 miles per hour with the highest that we have seen all day. and the 30 miles per hour wind gusts up in philadelphia, 35 miles per hour wind gusts in winchester. and it is just going to get stronger. tonight, high wind warnings. snow showers. a trace of two inches. and the temperatures, they are 30 to 35. and of course, windchills will be in the single digits and the teens. let me show you live doppler. access this on our website, along with our interactive radar. see a few snow showers out there on the west side of the 70 and the river now. we'll start closer to town. and they are holding that together a little bit. not completely. but we do see a little bit of the snow showers, running right down route 7, headed for greatfalls. and again, they looked pretty

intense after a while. and a little bit of the activity on the other side of the river, over towards poo tommic -- potomac down towards seven locks. now, we'll move up to the north a little bit. we'll see where the heaviest activity has been, right on point for the rocks, down 85 over towards dickerson and over here with pretty good batch of snow showers. all right, let's go back to the computer. and we'll talk about tomorrow morning, we're still talking snow showers. 20s and 30s and a trace of two inches is possible. knocked the winds down a little bit. not much. and westerly at 25 to 40 miles per hour and gusty. by the afternoon, thed cold snow showers are still possible. highs in the 30s. and the winds are northwest at 15 to 35 and gusty. and the satellite picture and the radar combined. a massive storm for them. and it is essentially the winter hurricane. doesn't have an eye, but it has almost the hurricane-forced winds with it. what's going to happen, right over new york city now. they will move back and make a

loop back into the jersey area. and slingshot out there. as they make the loop tonight, that's going to increase the chances of showers, the snow showers rather. you can see the whole precipitation shield that is coming back around coming right through the metro area. again, northeast of the river. that will be your best chance of the accumulating snow late tonight and tomorrow. and maybe a trace for them south of town, down towards fredericksburg. that's about it. next seven days, cold tomorrow, in the 30s. maybe a flurry left over on saturday in the 40s. and it is quiet on sunday and monday. back in the 40s. upper 40s, in fact, for monday. another little storm will be south of us over the tuesday, wednesday time frame. we'll watch that rather closely in the low 40s if they stay south of us. and then we're back in the 40s next thursday as well. hold off, it will be windy. >> all right. >> it will be bitterly cold. >> and you know, speed is one thing in baseball, that a few people are talking about. always power and decent. if you have speed at the top of your lineup, it makes a lot of
