rage. >> tonight we are along with police. >> reporter: in an unmarked car, the police officer patrols the congested roadways. he's looking for speeders, red light runners and tailgaters. all signs of potential aggressive drivers. >> all of a sudden something just snaps in them. they have been at work all day. they are wanting to get home with long commutes. they're tired. >> reporter: gridlock has made the dc area a dangerous breeding ground for road rage. >> there are more cars on the road and less roadway and everybody is vying for a spot. >> reporter: with cutting edge laser beam technology to track speeders, officers have issued more than 200 ticket in less than two weeks as they step up their effort to crack down on aggressive driving. road rage has increasingly become part of our culture. motorists and victims of aggressive drivers even foes post videos like these on

youtube documenting their experiences on the road. >> studies have shown that almost 40% of drivers who are involved in road rage have firearms in the cars. >> reporter: if you ask a local driver what they fear the most, they'll say aggressive drivers who laps into road rage. >> they fear them now more than they do drunken drivers and drug drivers and drivers who are crazy out of their heads. >> reporter: until they learn to keep their cool, fairfax county police will keep pulling those drivers over one by one. >> and here is a sobering statistics. studies show that almost 40% of drivers involved in road rage episodes carry firearms or have firearms in their cars. derek. >> so with such violent incidents going on out here, how many actually lead to fatalities. >> about 1500 people are injured or killed across the country every year. very high. it looks like the numbers are

going up. >> thank you. police are never going to question a potential suspect. they believe a man who shot a woman to death in a parked car and then took his own life. >> my mom told me to stay down because they heard gunshots or police with automatic weapons all over the place. >> was it a domestic squabble that led one man to kill himself on the sidewalk in broad daylight. questions a bound in this neighborhood near quincy and 15th street. >> it's terrible. at first i thought my family was lying. >> i feel very sad for him. >> the 4:00 suicide happened after they were called to the scene. >> we received a call from a person stating that there was a man with a gun. when officers arrived, they encountered the man who was armed with a gun. when he saw police officers, he shot himself. >> i heard gunshots, i looked at the window and there is blood on there. >> i came outside and saw a dead body covered. >> now investigators are calling that dead body a murder suspect. fairfax police believe he might

have been the man that shot a woman dead at dawn just 0 miles away. >> i woke -- 20 miles away. >> i woke up and heard shots go off. >> could that golden car be this car towed away. >> they're working together to determine the identity of this subject and see if the evidence links him to the homicide that occurred this morning. >> some of the onlookers identified the man. they tell us he was in his 20s and he lived in these apartments. >> he had a lot of friends around here in the neighborhood. >> and now those friends are wondering if they really knew him. brittany morehouse, 9news now. >> that murder this morning was the second homicide mount vernon has seen in the last week. the death happened within a few miles of each other but police say they are not related. the fbi is looking at threats to those that voted for health reform. so far we're talking about ten

the companion bill by the end of the week. a pediatrician accused of molesting more than 100 of his patients made his first appearance in court today. >> i think he should be first castrated and if they're going to make him serve time for the rest of his life, they need to put him in a cell where he can't get to nobody or nobody can get to him. >> that was just one resident where the doctor had one of his offices. prosecutors have charged him with a long list of crimes, including rape, sexual exploitation of a child and unlawful sexual contact. he videotaped the sexual attacks dating back to 1998. his attorneys says he wants a jury trial that is expected to be scheduled for later this year. police in front royal are investigating a bizarre case of animal cruelty. officers arrested a man for skinning a guinea pig and making

it into a hat. neighbors called police after they saw woodson wearing the hat which includes the animal's head. he says he killed the animal humanely and at worst he's only guilty of a hunting violation. he could face up to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine if convicted of animal cruelty. taking a look now at news across the nation, in oklahoma, a woman is behind bars for her 9th dui. police say a dung didn't convict the -- judge didn't convict the woman in all of those cases. if a judge keeps giving her bond, she may end up hurting or killing someone else or herself out on the road. >> we have been lied to repeatedly by the airlines saying we're going to be getting on the plane, boarding, boarding, boring and they keep pushing it back hours and hours. >> this was a really bad case. out in arizona, precautionary landing left a lot of passengers frustrated and left them stuck in the airport for two days. the american airlines jet was

heading from san francisco to miami when it had to land in phoenix because of a generator problem. at one point security had to step in to calm down the passengers because they were so upset, but nobody was hurt. and in ohio, more than a dozen fire departments responded to an intense fire at an egg farm. that blaze got started in the storage building attached to five chicken houses. unfortunately, that farm had to euthanize at least a thousand of the chickens as a result. the cause still under investigation. in virginia, a high school has created an anti-sag campaign. uh-huh. the senior class president is encouraging president to keep their pants pulled up. to help with the campaign, the students is selling t-shirts and encouraging others to give their opinion on the sagging subject. put the phone down. today the maryland senate narrowly approved a bill banning drivers from using handheld cell phones in the state while they're driving. drivers could be permitted to

use hands free devices under the legislation. violators will be fined $40. met low has a new did he -- metro has a new device that could be helpful in case of an emergency on the tracks. >> the town does make a difference in how quick we do things in an emergency incident. so we try to be as quick as we can to get the job done. >> today firefighters are showing off their brand new mobile emergency response vehicles. the portable battery operated motorized cars will run along metrorail tracks and allow first responders to get to the scene far more quickly. the cars can carry the crew's equipment plus transport people from the area. and using fingerprints to get a suspect could be a thing of the past. and how detectives are using evidence people are unknowingly left behind. and say high-speed chase up to 100 miles an hour. and what was inside the truck

a virginia man is behind bars tonight accused of sexually assaulting a child. prosecutors have charged 25-year-old amel-- emilio diaz with sexual battery. it all happened in his apartment in gainesville. a coffee shop owner is dead after a gas tank explosion. he was trying to excavate the underground tank when it blew up and killed him. he was moving the tank when it exploded. he had dumped the gas out of the tank, but they believe vapors may have caused the blast. now to a word of warning to you. internet users everywhere. a local woman is trying to get life back on track after a

hacker targeted her on facebook. a man allegedly broke into the victim's e-mail and cancelled her classes at northern virginia community college. internet experts say he may have gotten the password by using information on the victim's facebook page. >> birthday, parents, sibling, maybe the mother's maiden name, things that are used as passwords or hints on many sites. >> your passwords should be ten characters with letters, numbers anz symbols. they suggest -- and symbols. they suggest you use a different one for each account and change them about every three months. some hispanics find a portion of the latest government census form outright confusing. it asks what race are you. it does not give hispanic as an answer. some people find the race question unclear while others feel left out.

henry gonzalez was born in dc and proud of his heritage. >> both my parents are hispanic and culturally you feel real strong about your culture. >> well, census officials are pointing out there is a space provided on the form where you can write in whatever you want to call yourself in terms of race. well, here is one we may be seeing on csi sometime soon. the use of bacteria to identify suspects. gary nurenberg reports that could join fingerprints and dna in the crime fighters tool box. >> reporter: crime scene scientists may benefit from bacteria. just as your fingerprints and dna is unique to you, so is the bacteria on your skin. >> so if someone touches a surface, they have shown that the microbes transfer from your skin to the surface. and a forensic investigator could actually recover the microbes and make a match just like a match using human dna can identify a person leaving their

traces behind a crime scene. >> reporter: and if there is a just a trace. >> you can take a small number of bacteria and culture them and grow them up so you can get a very, very small transfer of material and actually grow more material which you can analyze it. >> reporter: a doctor at the university of maryland medical schools institute for genome sciences says it could work when more conventional tools don't. >> human dna is the first one. fingerprint is the second one. but sometimes the fingerprint is smooshed and can't recover the fingerprints but you might be able to recover the microbes. so then you might be able to go back to the mike robe of the sus -- microbe of the suspect and make the match that way. >> reporter: science is new and it has to be checked and rechecked and proven by the scientific community before it could ever be used in court to lock someone away. but it's promising and crime scene analysts would love to see it work. derek. in texas, a 12-year-old led police on a high-speed chase and

it was all caught on tape. and, in fact, at one point the pint size driver got up to about 100 miles an hour. he was able to exit the interstate at least three times before the police finally got him stopped with one of the spike strips. >> what are you doing? >> trying to call your mom. >> are you crazy, boy. >> with the assistant of all agencies, the pd and our sheriff's office, this all came to a safe ending. >> that boy was apparent run away. they found marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a pistol in the car with him. he now faces lots of charges. a volcano erupting in iceland. these up close pictures are from a volcano in the south central part of the country in an area that includes a popular walking path over a mountain pass. last weekend about 600 people who live in the area were evacuated. authorities have since allowed most of them to go back home. so far no injuries or damage.

40s and 50s. winds pick up a little bit again. this time out of the south at 10-15. and that's a warm wind. and by afternoon, it picks up a little more out of the southwest at 10-20. so despite the clouds tomorrow, we're going to be still near 70 degrees. and, again, unless you're west of cumberland, we're going to stay dry until tomorrow night. that's when the system rolls in here. so high temperatures tomorrow. then everybody is in the 60s and some folks will flirt with 70s. 69 in springfield. 69 arlington. you can just as easily be 70. 69 at andrews. bowie upper 60s. you go up to 67 in gaithersburg and mid 60s as you go out route 70 into loudoun county. it's snowing in the texas panhandle. that was the snow we showed you earlier today. big thunderstorms going through dallas right now -- excuse me, denver. now we're looking high clouds. and the high clouds will push in tonight and thicken up tomorrow

but the precipitation is well back to the west which will take awhile to get in here. zone forecast all six zones still on our website. cumberland west maybe a shower before the sun goes down. everybody else dry with clouds increasing. 65 in winchester. 71 in culpeper. 68 in manassas. that's a pretty good deal. and into the east, upper 60s downtown. near 70 at andrews. near 70 at wall dorph and saint -- waldorf and st. mary city. as winds pick up tomorrow afternoon, small craft advisory goes into effect at noon. next seven days, upper 60s tomorrow. then there is the quick hitter thursday night. only 52 on friday. even with sun on saturday, 55. mid 50s on sunday. another system comes in here. some showers, some light rain. maybe some lingering showers on monday but then we spring back into the mid 60s and by golly we're back to 70s by tuesday. >> thanks, top. do you know what's better
