believe technicians -- >> it was the one camera. the most important camera that was omitted. they say it's a mistake, but it's a coincidence which raises enough questions that one would hope it is thoroughly investigated. >> i'm alex in prince georges county where a family says their mentally handicapped child was beaten by a teacher's aid. >> this attack happened to a 14-year-old child. o 14-year-old child that has mental handicap and who has the mental capacity of a six-year- old child. >> natalie williams is serving as a spokesperson for the victim and family of the alleged attack. >> the assaulting teacher was out of control at this fu time. >> he then picked the child up, threw him into the bleachers, as the child attempted to get up, the assaulting teacher grabbed him once again and threw him back into the bleachers for a second

time. >> the family wants to know why their child was not taken to the nurse's office. why security did not respond, and why the school failed to notify the parents immediately. >> that delaware pediatrician charged with sexually abusing more than 100 kids will go on trial next year. court documents show jury selection will begin in february for dr. earl bradley. bradley pled not guilty to these charges, but then just this past monday, he was charged with an additional 44 counts of sexual abuse involving two dozen more children. ben roethlisberger will miss the first six games of the 2010 season. that is the punishment the nfl handed out for the steelers quarterback today. that suspension comes after multiple women accused lott lis bergerned roethlisberger of

assault. is that fair? roethlisberger was accused, but never even charged with the crime. and now he is suffering some serious consequences at his job. they may even trade him. what do you think about that? suppose we were all held to this higher standard. share your thoughts with mcginty's mailbag. the search is on for 11 people missing after an oil rig explosion off the coast of louisiana. the rig deep water horizon was still burning late today. hours after being rocked by the blast late last night. most of the workers either escaped or were rescued by the coast guard. three were taken to the hospital with critical injuries. no word yet on what caused the explosion. >> and we have two commuter alerts for you tonight to get you ready for the rest of our week. the folks working on the dulles metro rail project tell us today's rain will not stop tonight's work along the toll road. starting tonight around 11:00, crews will start setting up barriers across all four lanes just east of the interchange at hunter mill road. then, the traffic will be

baltimore. a couple showers down to the south, but they will leave us alone. we'll come back and talk about finishing the week strong and look ahead to the weekend. derek. >> a northern virginia swim coach has been suspended from his job after being accused of sexually abusing one of his female swimmers. those accusations come from a missouri woman claiming her former coach sexually abused her when she was a teenage swimmer and now peggy fox reports that she game to manassas, even though the family prevented him from coaching again. >> i did not pay him to sexually molest my daughter. >> that's the voice of a kansas city mother whose now 21- year-old daughter filed a civil lawsuit against her former switch coach. 43-year-old robert. he is now employeed as a coach with the swimmers in manassas. >> he started sexually grooming her, befriending her, creating an atmosphere of, you

know, all powerful, you need me. >> the suit also names u.s.a. swimming, swim clubs in missouri, and aaron dean, who is now the swimmers general manager. and was her supervisor in missouri. >> the mother of the plaintiff sent me this letter that her husband wrote two years ago. in it, he details the alleged misconduct of rob and says that he should be permanently barred from any coaching activity. when they learned that he was coaching here in virginia, they were shocked. >> we are supposed to be protecting these kids, and when that is not happening, it really makes you feel sick. >> the lawsuit and others have sent shock waves through the swimming community. greg york, the general chair, the governing body over swimmers, says they are coming up with new guidelines to protect swimmers and coaches. >> these allegations were several months ago and that coach has been here for six months and we didn't have any awareness of that.

back on 9news now with a look at the future for 12 arlington families. they'll be working with habitat for humanity to convert this building into condos. they need to invest between 300 and 500 hours of sweat equity in order to own the homes they build. >> and maryland is getting a $20 million grant from the u.s. department of energy. the energy efficiency grant will go tolt state's department of housing and community development. it is one of 25 such grants, which vice president joe biden announced today for communities, governments, and nonprofit groups. the world already is transforming as the secretary said to a new energy economy. and the question is, are we going to lead it or are we going to continue to try to catch up? are we going to be left behind?

and current and former students are paying their respects to another local leader. brian bet ts was the principal at shaw middle school. she is live tonight from tonight's viewing going on in manassas. audrey. >> reporter: derek, the crowd for brian betts viewing tonight will certainly top a thousand. take a look at the people who are still waiting to get in. and this started about 6:00 tonight. eight bus loads of students from shaw middle school and montgomery county are among them. they all have one thing in common. the principal who meant so much to them is gone. they honor brian betts with their t-shirts tonight. they had posters covered with special messages and tributes to him. there is no doubt the lives of these students will never be the same. more than a few told us, he was like a father to them. that is former classmates from stone well jackson middle school say they always knew he

would have this kind of impact. >> shock is an understatement. brian was just one of the most loving, understanding, caring, energetic people we've ever known. >> absolutely. >> even back in high school, he was special? >> back in high school, i went to elementary school with him, middle school, high school, he had the personality that stood out. >> break your heart? >> oh, yeah. absolutely breaks my heart. he's just a very special person. a very special person. >> so, the viewing for brian betts will continue until 9:00 tonight. his funeral is happening here tomorrow morning at 10:00. but it is private. there is another public memorial set for may 1. it's on a saturday being held at cardoza high school who would like to say their good-byes who was a rising star among school officials in dc. back to you, derek. >> audrey barnes, thank you.

and talk about temperatures. with clouds and showers, it's a great equalizer. 54 in bethesda, 55 in college park. high was 57 today at national. it's 10 degrees below average. mid to upper 50s out towards sterling and leesburg. tomorrow morning, plenty of sunshine, cool, 40s and 50s to start. and then by afternoon, again a nice day. partly cloudy, breezy and pleasant. showers are possible, but the bulk of the day will be nice. high temperatures around 70. winds will increase at 10 to 15. satellite picture, radar combined, our weekend storm is in the rockies, causing some rain and snow in the rockies. thunderstorms in the plain states. this system is finally leaving us alone. with a weak system, we talked about that. only about a third to .2 of inch fell, and everything is east of us. we'll see some clearing already back into the mountains, that gets in here tonight. next seven days, 70 tomorrow. maybe a shower late.

eagle and the nra was indoctrinating our children. my children now have this video from their elementary days. it's about gun safety. what to do if you find a gun. there are many areas where i feel our kids are indoctrinated, this is not one of them. and similar from bruce in cliften, virginia. comparing eddie eagle isn't trying to sell guns, the nra isn't trying to indoctrinate guns, just trying to teach them what to do in the presence of a gun. as a police officer and a parent, my children know, do yours? and our good friend, deb from arlington is sorry it's come to this, but she says kids need to know about guns. in a perfect world, we wouldn't have to do this. in a perfect world, kids would be allowed to stay kids and not worry about gun violence and have responsible parents. unfortunately, this isn't the case. the nra video wasn't offensive
