day. this is a very chaotic scene that involved multiple officers being injured. the officers, had they not done what they did, we would have nobody in custody. right now, we would have nobody. they did what every police officer is expected to do. put their life on the line, try to bring people responsible to justice. >> authorities identified the 13-year-old, malik carter, in order to make it clear that he had nothing to do with the crime and was not a witness. >> i apologize. in a perfect world that we would never have mistakes. the circumstances leading to the probable cause hearing to such that we and the court believe that there was probably cause at that time to hold mr. carter. >> he feels that the fear rather that carter would be targeted for retribution that went public in a very nice way to let the city know that there is no reason for them to shoot

bill, they now appear to be compromised. others say that the democrat and the legislation gives them too much control. that gives them the ability to take over any company in america. and that they see fit. this is not what the american people want. >> i'm audrey barnes in silver spring. montgomery county police are looking for a car last seen leaving that alley. right beside the murder principal. and his house, early last thursday morning. it was spotted driving away about 45 minutes after he was last heard from. police are now scouring cell phone records and computer hard drives. tracking down friends and asking questions about the wait of the 42-year-old where they live. >> we realized that he was gay. that's just one of many aspects with this case that we're looking at. >> the lifestyle could be a factor. >> yes. >> businesses in the strip mall behind that house, they are hoping that his killer is caught soon. and they have had their share of the crimes too.

>> but you say it is a concern for them? >> yes, it is. >> it is very scary. >> and late today, police released information that they believe they are looking for more than one suspect in his murder. while they search for those killers, today, friends and family set a final farewell to their beloved principal. it was a pretty emotional good- bye for the more than 200 people who attended that private area. that included the dc school chance for michelle reed. mourners honored the man who touched their lives, monitor them. >> and they believed that they could change the lives of students. and i have always remembered that. he was the great person. and you know, always going to be missed. >> he was dynamic, hi was energetic -- he was energetic, he was fun, you would laugh with him, you would cry with him. there just wasn't anything that you could do with brian. they were just amazing. >> the dc public schools will hold a public memorial service to honor that saturday, may 1, at

the hall in north bethesda. now, an update on the gun law. state lawmakers have passed a measure that would require them to create a new gun safety area. specifically, material involving that gun safety mas the cot, calls eddie eagle. it will still be up to the local school boards however. and whether or not to offer that safety programs for the first time. time out for the check of the evening. a bad accident, huh? >> well actually, good news. take a look at this. this is declared 14th and constitution. and this accident has been there for quite some time. but it looks like they just cleared that. throughout the district elsewhere, it looks like we're moving incident free. that's the good thus. taking you live outside to show you how things are looking. right now, it looks like delays are easing quite a bit. but still, many thoughts especially between 395 and the toll road looking at a 20- minute drive right now. but otherwise, elsewhere, no

this year's nail biter and starting next year, is the ncaa. announcing that expansion today. and they will also be seeing every single game of the tournament live since they will be shown here on the area. and we are all wondering what the heck is going to happen? >> yeah, everybody was here. some young man will walk back there and look at the number one for it in the first round and cash the check for tens of millions of dollars. as of this moment, we still don't know who that young man is going to be.

both departed last year, he needs some first class protection. and there are two good ones available. they owe that to him out of oklahoma state. this guy, trent williams who might be better than oklahoma. and some believe the redskins will stay pursue a quarterback in either notre dame or orchestrated trade with the rams for a wood-be number one pick sam bradford who had a private workout with just two teams. the red skins, being one of them. and gm, bruce allen, is playing his cards close. if we can do a great job and find a player who falls to the fourth or the fifth round, who could help the redskins, you know, we'll consider a great draft. meanwhile, there are trade rumors swirling around here. most of them surrounding the disgruntle attack. and the team insists that they are not looking to deal him.

i'm alex trevino, 9news now. >> for the third year in a row, they are proud to be the sponsor of the earth day festival. meet alex and howard in our booth between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. they will also have lots of live performances by john legend, sting, and jimmy cliff. you can get more information. just click on living green. a new proposal to cut carbon in montgomery county effectively takes aim at just one company. today, the county council member has proposed a $5 tax on every kind of carbon dioxide released by polluters. the only company that sets that for the major polluter, is there. the power company, generating more than carbon dioxide per year at their plant. with the increasing focus on the conservation and the earth-friendly practices, metro's board of directors might be about to take a big step backwards. ironically, one of the discussions on earth day, is whether to increase fees for

cycling. here is peggy fox. >> that could cost a pretty penny. but feeling the wind on your face does not cost a dime. cycling is a cost efficient and healthy and environmental friendly way to get to work. governments have been encouraging us to get on our bikes by building new bike lanes, installing special newwracks and lockers. nearly 1300 lockers spread out in 51 different stations. but because of the nearly $200 million shortfall, the metro board is looking to raise the fares and the fees, including the bike locker fee that would jump from only $70 a year to $200 a year. you think they would try to increase them in many other ways. >> reporter: a jump that high would discourage biking to work. on the other hand, nearly

tripling that may not put a damper on cycling. some of them tell us that they have a hard time getting one of these. >> i was on a list waiting for that for six months. >> reporter: lance anderson says that the $200 annual fee is reasonable and may open up some locker to people that may not have been able to get them. >> it didn't seem like a big deal. remember how much you paid to ride metro. so you're paying like a quarter of the cost to rent a locker. i don't think that it is that bad. >> reporter: in washington, peggy fox, 9news now. >> the metro board does plan to take several weeks before voting on the proposals. this won't be the best cycling that we have seen. >> no, it's not. we're looking at a beautiful day tomorrow. we're going to finish strong. >> that's friday. >> that's friday. >> what about saturday and sunday? >> oh, you want to talk about that too? >> yeah. >> still unsettled. we'll detail that in just a

we go. we'll talk about temperatures. well, 70 still at nationals. 64 frederick. 64 out in cumberland. a little cooler in the mountains. 54 in oakland. 73 down i-75 towards fredericksburg. lows tonight, not too bad. mid-40s in the suburbs. low 50s downtown. 51 arlington. 47 college park. 46 in bowie. lots of mid-40s for reston and sterling and also leesburg. tomorrow morning, great to partly cloudy and cool. 40s and 50s. by the afternoon, a nice strong finish, partly cloudy and pleasant. highs around 70. winds are light, only out of the north at about 10 miles an hour. satellite picture radar combined. big thunderstorms now, throughout much of kansas and into missouri. and this is the same system that we'll get in here over the weekend and again, if we pop in that warm sector of the air, then we're going to see some big thunderstorms on sunday afternoon. in the meantime, most of our evening showers, they are kind of fizzled out or gone to the south and the east. next seven days?

for them. i'll put it this way, adultery, very bad, but not a crime. tiger, very bad husband, but not a potential menace to society. still, lori is on your side. if he had been charged, i could understand. as a steeler's fan, even a shorter suspension or two games to knock some sense into him. there are a lot of other players that have been and will be accused of crime that will ultimately be cleared. i expect those players to be punished just as harshly as ben. but timothy writes us, we really don't know enough to say for sure. at this point, we do not know if they had any supporting evidence or if roethlisberger has admitted to anything. we also do not know for sure if this is just a punishment for the offense or a response to some issues involving the investigation. on the other hand, the sports figures hold a position in society which includes matters
