i'm bruce johnson. thank you for joining us saturday night. bad weather is heading this way. we get the forecast first. >> it is headed our way, bruce. good news sunday is not by all means just going to be a washout. a rainy day all day. we have got one round of rain moving through. this round of rain right around the area appalachians moving our way much live doppler 9000 will get a close look around the i-81 corridor starting to see the rain showers move in. new market, towards front royal. even towards martinsburg. showers. overnight and through the morning. satellite and radar together. already saying sunday afternoon here in washington a slight risk for these storms becoming severe after we get rid of this

round much storms -- of storms is very powerful. sunday afternoon, sunday evening. more on that forecast coming up in a few minutes but it was this round of storms responsible for a lot of tornadoes and deadly weather earlier tonight, bruce. >> that's where we are going now. storm already tearing through eastern part of the country tonight with deadly consequences. 10 people in mississippi have been killed. a dozen others injured. roads left blocked by fallen trees. tornadoes have also been reported in louisiana, arkansas and alabama. sandra hughes has more on the story. >> reporter: deadly tornadoes tore through several counties in western mississippi saturday. >> the wind blew me from one room to the next room. we got on the floor, grabbed my son. next time i know the roof came off. all the windows were blown out. >> reporter: his family's home will have to be demolished. >> this beam used to be

straight. >> reporter: the tornadoes leveled many buildings and trees. the biggest twister was three quarters of a mile wide. the state's governor says there was utter oblitterration. >> it did not go into the central part of the city or most populated. however, it went through the southern edge and the eastern edge of town. >> reporter: parts of louisiana, arkansas and alabama were also hit by the system that then headed east. sandra hughes, cbc news. quarterback jason campbell heading west. sara walsh is here with the changes and reaction from jason campbell. >> bruce, the player only gets drafted once but jason campbell can lay claim to another draft altering the course of his nfl career thanks to a trade with the oakland raiders.

the redskins received a fourth round pick for sending their former starter to oakland. the move isn't a total shock with skins giving permission for campbell seeking a trade once donovan mcnabb came to washington. a contract extension for 2011. the fresh start is a welcome one for a player who has been a class act even in the toughest times here. >> i want to go there with open arms and put in all the effort. can help us win. their defense started to become one of the premier defenses in the league. so we can help offensively. anything is possible. >> and with campbell's departure, rex grossman is this team's backup quarterback. we will have much more on the redskins draft coming up in sports with the breakdown of who is coming to the town with the team's 2010 draft class. bruce. >> thank you. dc police say alcohol may have been a factor in the death

of a man who fell nine stories to his death at a northwest washington apartment building. the man fell down a shaft on the roof of the conneticut house apartments. the victim is believed to be in his 20s. he was with several friends on the roof when he fell. the man's name is being withheld tonight until relatives can be notified. oil from a massive rig that exploded is now leaking into the gulf off the louisiana coast much the coastguard tonight adds that bad weather has halted efforts to clean up the mess from that explosion that occurred this week. up to 1000-barrels of oil is leaking each day we are told. >> we have said since day 1 when this incident occurred, that this is a serious incident and has the potential to be a major spill. i'm not going to quantify, not going to use any numbers right now. it is way too early to project. but i will tell you that we have positioned robots resources since day 1. >> 11 workers are missing and presumed dead after the rig

exploded and sank on thursday. this weekend marks the 40th celebration of earth day. on the national mall there are exhibits aimed at meeting environmental challenges. they include technology demonstrations and science exhibits for young and old. tomorrow on earth day climate, a rally is scheduled with live entertainment including a british pop star, sting. dozens of volunteers spent the day cleaning up the green and wooded areas on the ground. the volunteers helped pull debris from the river. all part of the many earth day events in the area this weekend. now before setting out for to the mall park, these are the

times. vincent gray unseeding the mayor. grey told a crowd that it is time to "bring dc residents" together rather than pit them against one another. the support for the mayor has dipped to 42% but the supporters say the incumbent can build on that. they have $4 million. that same poll shows grey edging out fenty. large number of voters are still undecided. ward 4, fenty's home base is shaping up to be the deciding battleground for the september democratic primary which is always decided who will be the next mayor of the city. leesburg, virginia, a rash of car break ins this weekend. majority of cars were left unlocked and parked close to their homes. the neighborhood well lit. the thieves went on a small

was stolen. >> young kids that were out having a great time breaking into people's cars. >> reporter: car break ins happen all the time taking your cell phone and electronics but rarely do police catch the people responsible. in this case police say they did. they arrested three juveniles and they believe there could be more people involved. they won't say how they got caught but there is at least one surveillance camera outside of a neighbor's home. >> i would like to have them for about five minutes and talk to them. >> police want to reminds folks of their lock, hide, roll up your windows, take your keys, and hide your valuables. in light of the recent break ins, police did a foot patrol in the area and found 77 cars unlocked. bruce? >> thank you, surae chinn. still ahead. tonight, new reaction tonight to what some are calling the toughest immigration law in the country. and later, an extraordinary gift of life from one facebook

the state of arizona passed what some say is the toughest immigration law in the entire country. the new law would make it a state crime to be in the country illegally. police would also be allowed to ask anyone to prove their legal status and demand to see a driver's licence or state i.d. >> what they are giving is the tools to the law enforcement officers of arizona. the same tools that we now have given to the border agents. >> this state of ours, arizona, which we all love, has entered a very dark, shadowy period of its existence. >> that law brings forward racial profile which we fought so hard to end in this country. >> civil rights groups plan to

the mayor of east haven connecticut has many facebook friends. she recently gave one of them a kidney. she was moved after reading the man's facebook account asking for a kidney. she posted that she would get tested and then learned she was a match. >> this far exceeds everything

i have given and i want everyone to know how easy and painless it is to do. >> doctors say the two are doing well tonight. >> students at the university of maryland are dancing with a purpose this evening all part of an effort to raise funds for the children's national medical center. here is the story. >> reporter: it is after 11:00 p.m. and here at the university of maryland the college kids are dancing and it is all for a miracle. >> they are dancing for miracles like this 80-year-old woman that lost her leg to cancer -- this 8-year-old girl that lost her leg to cancer. >> what do you like to do? >> singing on the stage. >> this 6-year-old olivia. >> she received a heart transplant when she was one. so we are almost five years post transplants and thriving. >> and jessica who has a red belt in karate. doctors thought she may never walk when she was born.

tonight. how that affects. a big event. march of dimes walk tomorrow morning. i'll have the forecast. next three days. mid-70s tomorrow. now, could still be a huge span in those afternoon high temperatures. if we hang on to more cloud cover, we could be holding upper 60s. we have just nothing but bright sunshine. we could be pushing the 80- degree mark. a lot of my forecasting numbers coming in. showing me right about 75. overnight showers tonight. then possible thunderstorms. that would be the risk of severe weather. another risk for thunderstorms monday then more rain possible tuesday. overnight i'll show you how the rain is starting to come in. might see embedded thunderstorms within that rain. low temperatures just after midnight into the 50s. a warmfront will pass through and was essentially responsible for this coming in. by march of dimes time i think it is kind of mild even a little bit humid. 60 to 65 and rain is done with.

evening time period will be the risk for potential of storms coming in. even an isolated nature of a storm or two. widely isolated tornado might be possible. now the storm prediction center? oklahoma has washington right smack dab in a risk of these storms coming through. so here is what has been going on. we see the rain that has come up here in washington and more rain that will be headed our way. these storms have just reeked havoc on the mid-south and deep south. deadly tornadoes down that way. still numerous supercell storms going over that region. we are just getting the outflow of the rain that ended later in the day and is now moving our way. so the most high resolution forecast we can give you i think it does a very good job of the most immediate concern rain here tonight. might see an embedded thunderstorm. this is 7:00 p.m. tomorrow morning. our forecast shows that rain is over and done with. by midday looking at the cloud cover starting to breakaway. we could see sunshine and that's why i still think it is possible upper 70s, near 80- degree temperatures if we get

lots of sunshine. watch the isolated scattered nature as this forecast tries to break out with more storms afternoon, evening hours. is still keeps wide as we have a warm front north. where i think these storms will start to initiate and a chance south. once we get past 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon it is still a good shot of scattered thunderstorms which doesn't mean it is going to be storming and raining for everyone but the chance will be there. this is a more general forecast. scattered storms possible. but it is not going to be a washout tomorrow by any means. overnight sunday into monday that's another best chance of rain monday afternoon, more scattered storms and a final round of showers coming in tuesday as the storm finally exits. remember low temperatures tonight after midnight. by tomorrow morning when we are waking up actually going to be 60 to 65 with a warm front that shoots through. high temperatures tomorrow afternoon. i'm still holding on with mid- 70s. possibly even upper 70s to near 80 if you get a lot of sunshine

>> you're improving exactly. if you believe in karma then you knew jason campbell would some day find himself in a better situation. while you can argue going to oakland is cruel and unusual punishment, he gets himself a 4.5 million contract and goes back to being a starter. redskins granted the quarterback permission to seek a trade after picking up donovan mcnabb. washington is getting a fourth round pick in 2012 in this deal. campbell finishes his redskins career with 38 interceptions and while washington often snubbed its quarterback during that time as always campbell is taking the high road. >> i definitely feel this is a new door for me. we went through a lot here in washington. lost our offensive linemen. and just a lot of things that went on. >> working with his agent and working with jason we were trying to find him the proper home where he had a chance to compete for the starting job. >> good luck to jason.

perry riley was taken in the fourth ride. another tight end in the sixth. three picks in the seventh today which were a receiver, a senator and another offensive tackle. jason campbell may not be far out west but will be getting local protection. taken by the raiders in the fourth round as the drafts 106th pick. campbell's former terps teammate taking part in the annual spring game. one interception on 11 for 13 passing. scott who missed five games last season ran for 26 yards on four carries. he says he was pleased with the team's spring program. on to the nationals now. nobody expects them to be the best team in baseball but what is more important is they finally are shaking the title of being the worst.
