when i was younger, i used to talk to my dad about going to college. he really wanted it for me, but after he left, it was hard. my mom struggled to pay bills and i didn't want to burden her with the stress of paying for something else, so i kept the desire to go to college a secret. i ran track and field and one day after practice, a coach grabbed everybody and told us about federal student aid. he gave us a free application and helped us fill it out because he knew we wouldn't do it on our own. and my mom learned from me! she went back to school and got her g.e.d. then i helped her fill out the free application!
