police saturated that area shortly after the violence broke out here, they went door to door, obviously looking for people connected with the 14th and gerard crew or gang or whatever they are called, they came away empty handed. they didn't have anything but they got some idea of what they are looking for. they are looking for the other end of the war, the battles that are going on here, members of that 14th and gerard gang. >> hopefully they get to the bottom of this soon. thank you for that. now let's get you caught up on an update here. police have released the name of that pedestrian badly injured in a hit-and-run accident. 22-year-old danny mateo. police sigh a driver -- say a driver hit her about 8:30 last night along the 8700 block of carol avenue in silver spring and she is still in critical condition. police have released a new description of the vehicle they are looking for but there are several possibilities. it could be a 1994 through '98 gmc jimmy, chevy s10 pickup or a blazer, even an oldsmobile

6:05 pm
let me go to this other page as well and there's a page here that shows right here there's actually a classified ad, a birth announcement in the honolulu advertiser that shows mr. and mrs. barack obama had a son on august 4th back in 1961. lieutenant colonel terrence lakin still doesn't believe it. the flight surgeon was back before a judge in a last ditch attempt to salvage some kind of defense case. >> i will just make my orders to deploy because i, and i believe all servicemen and women and the american people deserve the truth about president obama's constitutional eligibility to the office of the presidency and the commander in chief. >> reporter: but things are not going well for laken as his case heads towards trial on charges of missing a movement, disobeying lawful orders and dereliction of duty. the judge turned down two more witnesses, ruled the orders at issue are lawful and found that laken's motives are irrelevant, at least until sentencing.

6:07 pm
what that basically draws on is 18 years of military service, his rank, the fact that he's served previously in bosnia and that he's deployed before to afghanistan so that's what they are going to be left with. >> all right, bruce. thank you for that. by the way, there are exactly five weeks to go before the big november elections and president obama is on a campaign swing on behalf of fellow democrats. first stop a back yard gathering in new mexico where he focused on the economy and education. >> the number 1 issue in terms of us succeeding as an economy is going to be how well we educate and how well we train our kids. nothing else comes close. >> this evening president obama headlined a campus rally at the university of wisconsin. it is part of an effort to reenergize young voters who turned out to support democrats two years ago. coming up on 9 news now, a new maryland law takes aim at drivers who talk on the phone. tell you when you'll need to go
