look at live doppler 9000 hd because we have chose showers around this morning. those are light, spotty showers. you see them there in prince georges county, parts of anne arundel county. we have a little bit also, not far from brunswick and harpers ferry over to point of rocks in to eastern fairfax county, along the river at mount vernon and mason neck seeing that, as well. annandale and burke a few showers bethesda to northwest dc, but this is light spotty stuff. and that's the key. over in the weather computer, the storms were tremendous yesterday. dropping upwards of a foot of rain across parts of southern maryland to the east. eight to ten inches in calvert county. a lot of flooding there. we had five and six-inch totals not far from the record. national plenty of flooding. thankfully the heavy colors, the yellows and oranges, have moved away from us. flash flood watches are over.

a few lingering in anne arundel and stafford county. so watch out for high water an road closures there. most of the state of new jersey is under a flash flood warning at this time. winds will be a factor gusting to 30. and gusts near 30 out of the northwest and with the northwest wind the storm is pulling away and the drier air is moving down and the temperatures are cooling. 63 reagan national. 61 culpeper. manassas is 59. winchester 58. in in the valley 60 luray. oakland, garrett county you go from 900 feet to 3,000 feet and you are down to 52 degrees. clouds this morning with spotty showers. 66 by 9:00. 70 at noon. 72 for the drive home but more sunshine as we go through the afternoon and that's a good thing. weekend looked mix with saturday being the better day. i will have more on that coming up. right now here's angie.

>> some issues that carried over from yesterday is how we begin. it's in crystal city, virginia. happy friday. we are looking at route 1 and south ball street. we have all lanes closed in both directions due to high water. the inner loop in virginia going southbound at telegraph road. more problems out there. we have a huge pothole on the right lane and located on the cameron run bridge. that's something to avoid. i would stay left if you are passing that way on telegraph. in maryland, 355 wisconsin avenue where it meets brandywine is where we had police activity earlier. transformer blew. as a result we are dealing with traffic lights out. treat it as a four-way stop. go to the maps. 95 and the bw parkway. promise we will get there. there we go. nice and green out of baltimore making your way to the beltway. everyone is moving at speed. right before the nasa good card area on 95, going southbound, that's where you want to keep an eye out for a downed tree.

interstate 270, nice and quiet out here. smooth sailing. no incidents or accidents to report out of frederick all the way to the split. andrea, back to you. >> thank you very much, angie. our flash flood warnings are over but as angie just said some of you might experience some high water conditions. jessica doyle is live in old town alexandria with a look at streets and roads there. good morning. of course this time yesterday we were talking about the possibility of flooding and it happened. i'm right here at the barricade. this is at king and union street in old town alexandria and i have to tell you this yesterday was floating in the street, yesterday afternoon. what happened is high tide came up around 1:16, and it flooded the low-lying area. this is the last block of king street before it hits the river. people were out grabbing sandbags getting ready for the

storm and the possibility of flooding. we caught up with one woman who had serious concerns and that's why she was picking up sandbag and here's what she said what. >> it is already raised up four inches and that was this morning and now we have a couple of inches to go until it comes in the house. >> reporter: now there are some real concerns about today. we may not necessarily be out of the woods just yet because we have high tide coming in this afternoon and tomorrow, saturday, there's also the possibility we could see more flooding in old town alexandria. of course there's runoff coming in to the river system. we have a high tide coming in. that could spell some problems. we will bring you live here in old town alexandria. i'm in front of my thai restaurant. what they have done here is created their own sea wall, and there are sandbags, like this one here, not a bad idea for some folks today.

your tweets with dc flood and we will get them on the air and on wusa9.com. three staff members at saunders elementary school in dale city were taken to the hospital after a student accidentally knocked over a container of formaldehyde in a science crab. an outside company was brought in to clean up the spill. the three sickened staffers are expected to be fine. boaters in montgomery county will have a say in whether or no the county can charge them for call an ambulance. the maryland court of appeals ordered a referendum on ambulance fees be place on the ballot in november. the earlier ruling rejected thousands of signatures petitioning for the vote. it could charge up to $800 each time an ambulance is called. the end of nasa's shuttle program is bad news for a number of american workers.

the company, which makes rocket boosters for the shuttle has laid off 400 workers. it said it had to make the cuts because of uncertainty over the future of the u.s. space program. could the postal service run out of cash? the answer seems to be maybe. especially since the regulatory commission turned down a request for a two cent increase in the cost of a first class stamp. they say the usps has long-term structural problems that have nothing to do with the cost of mailing a letter. the post office is about to announce billions of dollars of losses for fiscal 2010 and add that to dropping mail volume and you have an agency in serious trouble. for more "living $mart" headlines, log on to our website, wusa9.com, and click on the "living $mart" tab on our front page. our coverage of the aftermath of yesterday's storms will continue but before we head to break, here's howard.

approaching route 15 here in southern frederick and northern loudoun county. locally, though, as i said here in washington, you can see the showers as you are coming through the district. southern montgomery through rockville, bethesda, arlington seeing spotty showers down route 1 alexandria, even in to northwestern areas of charles county. western prince georges over to accokeek we are seeing showers and i want to zoom in a little bit and give you an idea. some of the rain and it's not heavy at all. it is nuisance type stuff. you will need the wipers. folks in white plains, la plata will get some of this in a half hour. lorton look at that hour. light ones to the west of 95, crossing 95 by springfield. some showers out of arlington and the national airport area. and in prince georges county, you go from upper marlboro north on 301 through woodmore, bowie, west of 301 as we head

to 295, seeing the showers our of eastern howard, as well. back on the weather computer and show you the big area of rain pulling away. this is the good news. this is the end of the tropical rain. but in southwestern virginia and south central virginia we still have this upper little swirl and this has to pass. it is going to take another six hours or so before this can get past us. i think through the morning, through the noon hour or so we will be dealing with spotty showers in the region and then the afternoon will get far, far better. >> the flood warnings up to the east. it is in st. mary's. not in calvert, although probably some high water spots in calvert, too. kristin fisher is down there and we will check in with her later this morning. we have anne arundel, baltimore, the areas north and east and stafford county sheriffs report closed roads due to high water from the heavy rains we had yesterday. the momslikeme.com bus stop
