andrews air force base seeing that. also davidsonville and bowie. we have all of this drifting to the south. on the weather computer this morning, the big storm moved to the north and east. you can see the heavy rains overnight. they are now gone in to new jersey, eastern pa. we are left with flood warnings but not for the metro but for stafford, anne arundel, baltimore counties north and east where the high water persist and other pockets of high water but not enough i suppose to warrant flash flood warnings. we have some river flood warnings. more on that in a few minutes. 50 in oakland. northwesterly winds dropping temperatures in hagerstown, winchester, gaithersburg in the upper 50s, as well. lower to mid-60s from dc to fredericksburg to tappahannock and the pax air station where rain totals were close to a foot. as far as locally upper 50s to

60s. so today, clouds and potty showers at least through mid- morning, maybe even most of the morning. sunshine by noon and sunny and pleasant and breezy for the drive home. 5:00 temperature 72. angie goff has the traffic info for you. thank you. we are kicking off the 5:00 hour. first we want to say tgif. we are so glad that friday is here and the rain pretty much out of our way, except for light showers here and there. route 1 at south ball street. we have some problems that carried over from yesterday. it remains closed in both directions and that's because of that flooding. we want to take you to the inner loop and move it outside, south of telegraph road. that's where you want to keep an eye out for the pothole that is in the right lane. stay left to get by. in maryland, we have a downed tree to tell you about. this is on route 29 at university. it takes away a couple of right

lanes for drivers. so stay left this way. 270 finding this is a problem- free commute out of frederick toe spur. and we are tracking the beltway in maryland. no incidents or accidents or real construction to report from 95 to 270. a good example of that here live from connecticut. over to andrea. >> thank you, angie. just because the rain is ending, dunn mean the flooding danger passed, especially in alexandria. 9 news now reporter jessica doyle is joining us from the told old town waterfront where they will be on high alert through the weekend. good morning, jess. >> reporter: good morning, andrea. we are of course in old town alexandria at thend of king street, about 50-yards from the potomac river where that jumped the bank yesterday. we did have flooding. we were expecting it and it did happen. we have video we want to show you from the scene yesterday. after high tide, 1:20 in the afternoon the potomac jumped the bay and filled up the entire area, a low-lying area

of old town alexandria. you even see in the video we have a barricade at the top of the block. that was floating. the barricade there to keep drivers out of this area with the expectation there was going to be some light flooding. we caught up with a boater who was down here and had concerns about his boat. here's what he had to say. >> making sure my boat doesn't turn in to a submarine. >> just tying it down. >> just making sure the lines are good. >> when you look at the system coming up the coast it looks pretty ugly. so good to be safe. >> reporter: he, of course was safe. he might be back today to make sure the boat is still tied down safe again today. we are here at the old dominion boat club. the boats out there bobbing nicely. the river's only a foot away from jumping the bank again. we are heading to low tide. that happens at 8:00 this morning and then will come up

again at 1:20 today. we will see a high tide again. we could well see the river crest over the bank and fill up the entire area today. there is also a risk tomorrow, perhaps a greater risk than today with all of that runoff coming from the last 24 hours, working through the tributaries and back to the potomac, possibly raising the river level. so we are telling folks to keep this in mind. if you want sandbags they are available still. king and lee street if you are an alexandria industry resident. bring your proof of residencecy and they will set you up. with that, back to you in the studio. as bad as that is, we found something worse than a lot of floodwater. in parts of annapolis, raw sewage started to bubble in to businesses from their drains and the sandbags in front of storm brother's ice cream factory didn't help. there the floodwaters got in the back of the building. some kept piling think sandbags in the face of the driving rain and others were using brooms to

battle the floodwaters invading their stores. in the district, someone had to clear a mess off their windshield after a tree fell on top of a car. it happened on the 2100 block near dupont circumstance. thankfully no one was hurt when the tree came crashing down but someone had a lot of work to do in the weather to move the tree and cut it out. if this weather has messed up your travel plans a couple of airlines are letting passengers change flights without a penalty. u.s. airways is allowing customers flying in and out of national or bwi to change flights through tomorrow night. continental is also offering waivers at all three local airports. and again we will be with you throughout the rush hour. but when you can't be near a television, log on to wusa9.com. you will find current radar on our home page, plus a slide show of storm photos. montgomery county police say that metro bus accident in silver spring appears weather related.

we were following this one for you during yesterday's extended coverage just after 7 a.m. one bus rear ended another on university boulevard near brunette avenue. 26 people, including eight montgomery blare high school students were taken to the hospital. no one was seriously hurt. two children on the charter bus that plunged off the 270 flyover ramp on wednesday say the driver clearly had a medical emergency. riley says the driver is 56- year-old retired police officer collapsed on to the steering wheel just before the crash like he had a seizure or heart attack. one of the parents tried to grab the steering wheel but couldn't move it under the driver's weight. they are waiting if the results of the autopsy on the driver. we will look at the other stories after the break including regulators who just said no to another postage stamp increase. and suspected insurgents

. from the beltway to 66 traffic is at speed but watch for a pothole in the right lane. more traffic coming up. in fact the news now, a convoy carrying supplies from pakistan to alternate troops in afghanistan was attacked this morning. the suspected militants set fire to 27 fuel tankers. it is believed the convoy drivers were able to flee unharmed. former president carter waved at cameras as he sped away from cleveland hospital and flew here to washington for a previously scheduled private meeting he spent two nights this the ohio hospital after

. this morning on live doppler 9000 hd, we are looking at an area of light shower activity right across the metro region now. the heavy stuff, steady stuff is to the east, philadelphia atlantic city the ocean shores. that's where we are seeing it. however, in town, look at this, from the district south an east through alexandria, route 1, east of woodbridge, to mason neck in to prince georges county, we see some spotty showers and drizzle toward forestville and up to bowie and also on the west side there. not quite to clinton but all of this has been drifting to the south southeast under northwesterly flow now so brandywine, clinton, upper marlboro, la la plate that will get light shower activity and where it is not showing up a little drizzle likely, as well. let's talk about the flood warnings. go back to the weather computer because the flood warnings are going away as the rain pulls

away. heavy rains are pulling here. a little feature here in south central virginia. this thing is going to continue to follow right up. we will squeeze out a few more showers here through the morning. that passes, though, and the afternoon gets a lot better. with that said the heavy rains being gone. the flood watches are gone. still have flood warnings in anne arundel, saint mary's, stafford counties. these are up for a few more hours and depending how quick the waters recede they will be allowed to expire or extend. a lot of that going on yesterday. for the immediate metro things are calming down. all the rivers are high. they will be cresting in the next day or so as the water works its way downstream. keep that in mind if you live near the areas that normally flood. even in alexandria it will be a crest coming down in another day or two. this morning, we have spotty showers and drizzle. most temperatures in the a 0s and 60s now. we may see a 70 or 71 in

extreme parts of the eastern shore but generally 50s and 60s. sun is up at 7:04. today slow to climb to the mid- 60s by 9:00. that maybe optimistic. low 60s with few showers and the drive home i think is mostly sunny, around 72. should be a really comfortable day. except for the winds which will gust close to 30. clear and chilly tonight. the winds drop off. 44 to 54. blanket weather. northwest winds five to 15. if you don't like to use the heat, maybe two blankets. 6:51 on the sunset and saturday a good start to the weekend, sunny and pleasant and high temperatures near 70. still have coastal flood advisories in affect but the winds are no longer out of the southeast. the warnings have been dropped and we will see these likely dropped i think shortly. give it a few more showers but the tides were running high. add a couple of feet to that and the rain and the reason we will drop, we had winds gusting

to 40. the water was pushed up the tidal potomac. winds gusting to 30 already an that is going to quickly lower the water level in the bay and tidal potomac. we are 61 in washington. 66 still in cambridge. upper 50s in martinsburg, hagerstown, 62 culpeper and manassas and at national we had a shower earlier, just cloudy skies. 61. the winds, well, they are reporting light rain. northwesterly winds at 13 an the humidity is 88%. there she goes. the last of the tropical moisture. and by later today the sun will be back. over the weekend, though, starting to go downhill. sunshine and 70 on saturday. showers are possible on sunday. and unsettled with spotty showers. more than spotty showers on benz. in the 60s and thursday a morning shower and high of 71. it is 5:18. stimdamp out there. here's angie. >> thank you, howard. we want to begin in crystal city and show you that route 1

is closed in both directions at south ball street due to flooding that obviously carried over from yesterday. move you over to 66. take you outside, heading eastbound we are tracking that trip. so far so good. nice and quiet making your way from route 50 to inside the beltway. as we switch the shot over to 395, your northbound trip looks clear from the beltway to the pentagon continuing to cross that 14th street bridge. hello, maryland. 270 southbound, wind is working the camera here but overall a little bit of volume we are dealing with starting to build an germantown road to montgomery village avenue. finally wrap it up with a look at route 4, route 5 and 301 and this part of the beltway. so far so good. clean and green and no incidents to report. rover to you. in the living well headlines, johnson and johnson officials were called on the congressional carpet. lawmakers demanded to know why america's largest drug company

hd, and you will see spotty showers an the region through dc now and to the south and east. drizzle lingers bowie, lanham, over to fedex field and forestville through alexandria route 1 and the potomac moving in to extreme northwestern charles county. a couple of sprinkles approaching waldorf as well as clinton. that's it for the moment. on the weather computer, though, we will watch the moisture from last night really race off quickly. heavy rains overnight have pulled north and east. spotty showers will be around through this morning. the afternoon gets better and the flood warnings for stafford, saint mary's and anne arundel counties will be going on for a while longer. watch out. some roads are closed there and we still have some road closures due to high water and some streams and creeks are running very high and very fast this morning. winchester, gaithersburg, upper 50s. culpeper 61. 64 down south.

slowly climb to 70 by noon and this afternoon, 5:00 drive at home, breezy, sunny and 72. we want to talk about the roads and rails and we have a metro alert for you. we want 0 you to know there is no service i'm hearing on the red line southbound at metro center and then also for vre riders looks like all trains have been cancelled out of manassas and that's because they are dealing with a situation with wires down on the tracks. so we will keep you posted and let you know when service is restored. we want to take you to new hampshire avenue. this is the outer loop past new hampshire. everything is fine north of the district so far. but on new hampshire avenue just after powder mill, a tree on the ground taking away the left lane. you want to stay right. move in to virginia and show you 395 northbound, everybody is at speed once they make their way from 95 past

shirlington to the 14th street bridge and wrap it up with a live look at 86 eastbound. no problems to report out of manassas to route 50 making your way to inside the beltway. andrea, over to you. now the heavy rain has pulled out, people along alexandria's waterfront have their attention focused on the upcoming high tides. jessica doyle is live from old town with more. jessica, you are cold and wet this morning. >> that's right. we are hanging in there. the washington area is hanging in there. i'm at the corner of king street and union street and the do not enter barricade is in place. the concern is that the area will flood again this afternoon. that's why some people are picking up sandbags we spoke to a lady where the sandbags are available and this is what she had to say. >> we have flooding in the backyard. it already raised up four inches and that was just this morning. and now we have a couple of

inches to go and it's going to come in the house. >> reporter: we want to give you a sense of what that flooding looks like. we have pictures from yesterday afternoon when the potomac jumped the bank at high tide around 1:20 yesterday. you are going to see the area flooded out. you'll see shots of the barricade netting in the water. right 50-yards from where i am is where the waterfront is you will see a bench that is almost completely submerged in the water that came this way. i want to bring you back here live to where we are at the end of king street. think expectation is, again today, high tide comes in around 1:20. we could see this area submerged again. more concerns about tomorrow because we have the runoff starting to hit the potomac, 50- yards that way and that's the reason why over here we have my thai restaurant and what they have done here, we have a sandbag situation over here. big heavy sandbags in place. it's going to be hard to see

but i will tell you there is a little mini wall set up here with sandbags gist in case we still have that -- just in case we have that problem with flooding coming in. light rain at this point. a little wind. not so bad. we are hanging in there. back to you in the studio. >> thank you. like alexandria, baltimore's water front is a big attraction, but in charm city there's too much water in places it dunn belong. police have blocked a road leading to the waterfront and this morning some waterfront residents could be looking for their cars since they were ordered to move them off the streets or get them towed. ten businesses in the mount washington community were evacuated because of the threat of flooding. now to the check on who doesn't have power this morning. bge is reporting most of the outages this morning. nearly 1400 customers in anne arundel county don't have power. 600 in carroll county, 500 in prince georges county and

another 150 customers are in the dark in howard county. now to pepco, which is reporting 565 customers in the dark in prince georges county, and more than 350 without electricity in montgomery county. in northern virginia, dominion virginia reports over 1200 customers do not have power at this hour. in some places to our south and east, they got a lot more rain in the district and close in suburbs. 9 news now reporter kristin fisher is live from calvert county with more. good morning, kristin. >> hey, good morning, andrea. this is really the bull's eye for the storm. calvert county. they have gotten over a foot of rain since the storm started. road have been closed. some homes, some businesses have flooded. there's been mild spotty flooding, but i think perhaps the best example of the kind of damage the storm caused can be shown right here. come walk with me and check out this home.

it is pretty incredible. yesterday afternoon the foundation on this home literally collapsed and you can see just over here, this concrete wall here literally split in two and if you look down you can see it was almost like a mudslide. half of this front yard literally collapsed right in to the basement of this home. now incredibly nobody was inside at the time of the foundation collapse. otherwise officials say somebody could have easily been crushed behind this concrete wall. you can see this poor family's belongings are covered in rain, completely soaked, and you know, the 12 inches of rain they have been getting the past 86 hours or so, but it is dangerous. and if you look here you can get a sense that this home is literally hanging here. photographer an i were joking we feel if we blew on this or threw pebbles it would almost collapse right there.

really a dangerousuation. we're not going to get too close by any means. but i want to show you this family has indeed been evacuated. the red cross has helped them out. they put them up in temporary shelter but you can see the notice sign right here. this home has since been condemned. nobody's allowed inside or anywhere near that basement. simply because, like i said this home could collapse at any second. it goes to show you exactly the kinds of conditions that we are dealing with here yesterday. like i said, over a foot of rain here, but the good news is pretty incredibly there's no power outages in calvert county. bge is reporting zero power outages. that's good news here. but certainly a tough morning for this family as they try to deal with what to do next after their home literally collapsed in on itself. back to you. >> thank you. amazing no power outages there. thank you. we asked and a lot of viewers respond by sharing

as things slowly improve around here weather wise, new jersey is now one of the places under the gun. the pa sayic river is five feet above the normal level and nearby residents fear repeated flooding from earlier this summer where entire neighborhoods were urn water. some have already stashed away sandbags or gathered belongings just this case they have to evacuate. and crews in new york city prepare for the onslaught of rain by clearing out drains in hopes of preventing serious flooding. they ordered construction crews to secure materials and building sights and encourage residents to tie down outside furniture. many are worried about wind damage after tornadoes hit there earlier this month. we want to let you know

this is in frederick. we had a flood. it was 9.2. flood stage is 15 feet. even though below flood stage it is expected to get close to this at 14 feet. 0 water will inundate the sewage treatment plant there. back water flooding will occur along carroll creek and inundates. as far as food warnings they con for seneca creek. this is near dawsonville. we are looking to get very close to that 9.5 stage later on this afternoon and in to tomorrow it will start to recede. one more the warning continues for goose creek in leesburg and loudoun county. we will be looking at a 1.7. most like lieging close to 3 1/2. we will update on that. flood stage is 82 and it will get close to that as we approach tomorrow.
