human waste and karma will get you. hate messages from people who thought he was d.c. police officer scott fike who shot a pit bull during a festival last month. >> i cannot stand to see a animal suffer. >> reporter: the officer threw the dog down this stairwell and then shot him. and now there is an online petition circulating that action be taken against the officer. so farwell over 15,000 people have signed on. but police say the dog lunged at the officer and he was acting in self-defense. but there was outrage. scott allen admits his profile picture may have added to the confusion but i'm an ethical hunter. >> if it wasn't for hunters they would die of starvation and disease. >> reporter: he hopes to clear up the confusion and put this

behind him. >> don't be so camera shy. >> reporter: delia gonsalves, 9 news now. >> there is no investigation into d.c. officer fike still on the canine unit. they say that shooting was justifying and mayor fenty justified the actions. and your gas bills might rise and that's because bge said it needs to charge customers more money. the company is asking for approval of a rate hike. for the average customer this would amount to an extra $22 for electricity and $32 for natural gas over the year. bge said the extra money would go toward maintaining basic infrastructure. >> if you look at the cost of cable and electric wire, they have increased over 100% since the last time we had a rate increase request. other costs have increased, tree trimming costs have increased by 80%. >> the american public service commission will hold a series of meetings across the state before making any decision about the rate hike.

photograph can zoom in. we have a two story building where we have a bomb squad working in the basement area. apparently a real estate agent, a gentleman we spoke with around 1:00 this afternoon, found this in the duct area of the basement and he said it looked like a pipe bomb you would see on the movies so he called 911 and they've been working on it. there was a loud shake earlier, just a few minutes ago so they have been working on it but cannot confirm whether this was in fact a live or a fake pipe bomb. again we are at the 5800 block of kentucky avenue in district heights and once we know more information we'll bring that to you for 7:00. >> but no one hurt? >> no one hurt. >> thank you so much for that. we're going to take a quick break and brett haber will be here on the other side.
