pennsylvania. we don't have that right now but we will tell you that things are looking good throughout the district. no accidents reported. it is 5:01. over to you. this morning the race for governor in maryland is heating up with less than a month until election day, president obama heads to boy we state university to stump for incumbent martin o'malley. 9 news now reporter kristin fisher is there with the latest. good morning, kristin. >> good morning, an you. president obama will begin to speak here at the university at 3:00 this afternoon. and he's going to be focusing on a lot of democrats that are running for re-election and running for election this november. he's really going to zero in on martin o'malley. the maryland governor who's running against former maryland governor bob ehrlich. i want to show you this new poll that is just out from rasmussen. take a look at this right now. it shows that o'malley is leading ehrlich 49% to 48%.

that's eight points. last month o'malley was ahead by three. this is enough of a leap to shift the race from a tossup to leaning democratic. in the past week, we have seen a surge in star politicos trying to sway the race in the final weeks before the election. last tuesday, president obama released a radio ad backing o'malley. the same day the former massachusetts governor mitt romney endorsed ehrlich. the next day, o'malley announced that michael bloomberg would be campaigning for him in bethesda. quickly that was followed by the news that form per new york city mayor rudy giuliani was endorsing ehrlich. and that brings us to happened yesterday when it was announced that former president clinton would be headlining a private fund-raiser for o'malley. the same day the new jersey governor chris christy endorse lick. so you have this game of one upmanship going on.

you have obama, bloomberg for and o'malley will be here today. he will be standing alongside president obama. but of course o'malley's opponent isn't slowing down anymore soon. he will be hitting the campaign trail hard as well today. i will let you know what he is up to in a half hour at 5:30. we are awaiting for an official statement from police about an investigation in to a possible cheating scandal at the prince georges county police able. the cadet records for 146 officers are being scrutinized. there are questions that a large number of test results are too good to be true and it may affect the prosecution now the department's integrity is in question. meanwhile, prince georges police are trying to discover more about two apparent explosive devices discovered inside of a home. charles gray found what he describes as two pipe bombs.

he's expected to recover. the funeral of a man killed last week in northwest included a heavy police presence. jamal coats was shot to death after attending the funeral of a woman killed in an ongoing gang war. he was shot sitting in an suv. police say he was specifically targeted. a number of plain clothes and uniformed officers attended the funeral to try to prevent another shooting. the supreme court is now considering whether something many feel to be a vile act is protected under the right to free speech. members of west borough baptist church demonstrated in front of the high court as lawyers argued inside. the father of matthew snyder a marine from maryland who died in iraq is suing the church's founder for emotional distress after they protested at his son's funeral. they say soldier deaths are a punishment for america's

this morning, the race for governor in maryland is heating up. with less than a month until election day, president obama heads to bowie state university to stump for incumbent martin o'malley. kristin fish -- kristin fisher is there with more. good morning, kristin. >> good morning. maryland is a strong state for democrats and here in prince georges county it is especially true. and especially so for president obama. he's very popular in prince georges county, and that's going to be a big reason whooshes he's going to be speaking here today, alongside governor martin o'malley. he's going to be stumping for him very hard. he's also going to be talking about other democrats running for election this november. now, obama is not alone in his support of governor martin o'malley. keep in mind, in the past week there's been a huge surge in the number of star politicos that have tried to influence the outcome of this race for maryland governor.

this afternoon. as for o'malley's open, bob ehrlich, he's going to be stumping hard in montgomery county, much more of a republican stronghold in more opposed to the democratic stronghold of prince georges county. angie. >> thank you for the update. prosecutors in the sandra levy murder trial are trying to get the policy graph taken by the suspect in court. they want to block the results of the lie detector test from being admitted as evidence in the trial. the test found that the man was not being receive tipsify when he said he was not involved in her disappearance and they say he practiced his answers. the trial begins okay 18th. -- october 18th. police are looking for suspects in the murder of a woman in hyattsville. the woman was gunned down on wednesday morning. it happened along the 2500 block of markam avenue. the victim's neighbor says she

lived in the condo with her young daughter. police say the child is safe. police are investigating a series of burglaries in the haymarket section of prince william county. the crimes all happened on sunday and monday on riding club drive and gables green way. in every case, police say the thief was after money. the burglaries sound eeriely familiar to the 90 cases investigated in fairfax county. police have not officially linked the cases but investigators are comparing the crimes. a restaurant destroyed in a gas explosion last year is set to reopen this weekend. ledo's pizza has rebuilt the restaurant in the penn mar shopping center. it was one of five businesses there destroyed in may of 2009. fortunately the leak was discovered in time to evacuate all civilians, although a handful of firefighters were injured. the new restaurant will include a wall dedicated to the prince georges county fire emergency

if a tennessee -- a tennessee family watched their home burn to the ground because the fire department did not respond. fire department did protect the homes of neighbors who had paid a fee that the family forgot to pay. david hartley's wife said her husband was shot. because it happened on the mexican side police in texas cannot investigate it. an attorney for john edwards says federal prosecutors issued a fresh round of subpoenas for a probe in to the two-time presidential can day's campaign finances. last year, edwards misstress testified before a grand jury. she says vast sums of money changed hands to help keep hunter in hiding. some local drivers are making sure their cars are okay for the change of season for free. that story is coming up.

son. the organization, segs for vets is fixing the problem with a gift of a brand new $5,000 segway. >> i'm very excited. it will make life a lot easier. i will be able to go more places with my son and wife. >> reporter: he is one of 51 wounded soldiers, marines and national guardsmen receiving segways at this ceremony. for the most part these injured servicemen have learned to walk again but walking with a prosthetic is limited mobility. the segway gives them the get up and go they missed. >> the prosthetic is heavy and wears your body down. being able to use that will take the stress off of you and allow you to go other places, really nice. >> reporter: though the federal government doesn't recognize the segway as a medical device, the founder of segs for vets, and is a quadriplegic himself says there is nothing like being able to stand tall and look people in the eye. >> it has made me an independent person and live a
