washington post to the wood shack. saying that the reports that they had, alleging a cheating scandal. they found no evidence of the cheating at the 30 officers allegedly involved in the scandal, they were, in fact, innocent. let's take a listen to what they said just a few minutes ago. >> the police department also took that very seriously and their obligations to p properly change and test all recruits. to ensure that they are completing the police academies and meet the highest standards imposed by the state of maryland. >> now, in an official review of the allegations made. indicate that to not edge gauge or be cheated. and the audit, thus far, revealed that all these

officers, professionally and adequately took their appropriate tests. >> those offices are fully pledged members of the prince george's county and the police department and they could continue on into their jobs. and they did say that one instructor, they were found to be in the words, lazy. and he had been properly disciplined because of that. they had found none as far as cheating but they will continue the investigation and make copies of the area to exam to show what they were saying. they said that one allegation made in post article that one of the recruits scoring perfectly on the test where he had been dismissed and he was not a part of the academy. they said that the recruit, they had been dismissed, but when he took the test, he was still a part of the academy. and so, in fact, he did take the test. and a lot of the bickering here

between the people in the county, both the chief and the executive and the washington post reporter. and they standby the training. that the post just got it wrong. reporting live, back to you. >> and more to come on this, that's for sure. thank you. and also in prince george's county, we're continuing to follow that bomb scare in district heights yesterday. they went out to check their property on the avenue and found what he called a pipe bomb in the basement. now, they say that they still have not determined if those devices were real and he said that there is no timetable on when those federal investigators will finish their investigation. >> police are still piecing together the details. she was out celebrating when someone struck her and kept going. lindsey mastis joins us live from the second district police headquarters. do we know if anyone is charged

in connection to the accident? >> well, police, they are working to get a warrant. until then, they are not able to arrest the suspects. but they did say that they are looking to charge the driver and leaving the scene of a collision. and now, around 1:30 this morning. she was getting out of the car, parked in front of the restaurant at the circle. she dieded just a few hours later, thanks to a witness, police in montgomery county, they were able to track down the suspects and her vehicles. >> a bicyclist saw the striking vehicle, noticing the tag numbers, calling police. now, the 30-year-old, davidson, was charged with dui in montgomery county. and police say that they found her sitting inside her lexus suv. she was released, but we are expecting to see some charges coming out of washington, d.c. reporting live in northwest washington, i'm lindsey mastis, 9news now. >> all right, lindsey.

and the prospect for peace in afghanistan, they seem to be getting worse. the war has been going on for nine years. and it is the longest in u.s. historiment now a new report from the white house said pakistan is the problem. that accuses pakistani leaders of not taking on the militants in their own country who attack the u.s. targets across the border in afghanistan. and not only that, a report released today by the senate armed services committee, they said that your taxpayer dollars have been lining the pockets of the taliban. seeming like the private security con trackers do not do that. they end up serving that out there, pulling out afghanistan next summer. but as they tell us, demonstrators, they are on capitol hill and they say that it is not soon enough. >> reporter: that's right. and those demonstrators tell us that they chose this ninth anniversary to send a message to congress. and to deliver this notice to stop sending traumatized troops back up to the battlefield.

the group of the veterans estimate 20% of the troops serving overseas are traumatize. he served a second tour after being diagnosedded with the traumatic brain injury, after being hit by the roadside bomb in '06. >> i needed them to help with the panic attacks. and it worsened. i mean if were out there now for going back. >> reporter: and get this, according to the research conducted by the iraq veterans against the war, traumatized service members are six times more likely to attempt suicide and in fact, listen to these numbers. they say that last year alone, 239 soldiers killed themselves more than 1700 service members. and they survived suicide attempts. we're live on capitol hill, 9news now. >> that's a different picture about the realities of the war. thank you for that. and up next, your tax

and the audit of the juvenile office. acing among the findings, a loss of $3 million in federal medicaid fund. $148 million in contracts that did not get a proper approval. and others that were overpaid. and plus, employees, apparently, some of them were paid overtime. and some of them were paid twice. we spoke to a legislative auditor who says that the agency is working to correct the problem. you can read more on our website on wusa9.com. and by the way, they planned to hear ad holding on this next month before the general assembly. a government investigator said that 8,000 economic stimulus checks were sent to people who were either dead or in prison. and each payment was $250. the social security administration inspector general breaks it down this way. about $18 million went to those who were dead. more than $4 million went to folks behind bars. believe it or not, more than

half were actually returned to the government. >> well, we need your help. this is no small thing. talking about hundreds and hundreds of cars. >> so this is where the large baseball card collection was found. in a grassy area, near the tennis court at east of the park in southwest washington. and a passer-by, they noticed the collection and they flagged down a patrol officer. and the correction was found in boxes and containers. police, they won't say the exact number, but they will only say that there were a lot more than 500 baseball cards. there are these specialty cards and other iconic and collectible cards that the owner will know.
