among the praisers, work of people who she didn't know. murder mystery. police try to figure our who killed a virginia man and wise. but first the wild, wild west. police and neighbors baffled after a man fires more than a dozen shots in to the house next door. >> reporter: i'm in woodbridge where police search all day for bullet casings and other evidence after a gunman fired in to his neighbor's house multiple times hitting the man inside on his ankle. >> everyone here says we are lucky nobody was killed. a man who, saw the shooting, says after the guy with a gunshot in to his neighbor's house he then started to shoot in to the street. >> a lot of the gun fire. pretty scary about 7:30 in the morning. >> reporter: the victim's wife was sleeping upstairs and was uninjured. a man saw the gunman and called police. >> i heard him fire off six time and i came to the front of the house and looked and he

also had turned and faced the other direction and was shotting what look like toward the ground. >> reporter: the gunman has a young daughter who may have locked him out of the house. >> i feel bad for her. obviously there's something wrong with him. i'm surae chinn in chantilly. police are trying to figure out who killed the owner of the chantilly car wash pane why anyone would want to harm him. his death has been ruled a homicide with trauma to the upper body after an autopsy was pleaed today. he was found today in his home on fairfax couldn't pi parkway yesterday afternoon. in fairfax station after a female family member discovered him. his 2002 gold lexus missing and police need your help in locating his suv with virginia tags xyw-8197. >> if we find that it may lead us to the suspect. >> everyone is shocked in our family that something like this could happen so close to us and we don't know much about what happened but we don't know it

was random or not. concerning when something like that happens so near to your home. >> reporter: in aspen hill a push is pushing her daughter in a stroller through the intersection on georgia avenue when her daughter is struck by an suv. i just saw the baby trying down on the pavement without moving. the mom was crying. >> after a few seconds we started to get a pulse back. it became stronger as we continued cpr. >> reporter: the girl was rushed to the hospital. police athe green suv struck the child. her 36-year-old mother was behind the stroller and was in the crosswalk. but police say mom is at fault. witnesses say the suv had a green light. the girl is expected to survive. the woman accused of running down a 24-year-old girl with her car is free to come and go tonight. 30-year-old davidson was release on her own recognizances after pleading not guilty to involuntary

manslaughter slaught she had to surrender her passport and can't drive and will be under intense supervision. she is accuse of killing this woman thursday morning south of dupont circle. today her mother spoke to scott broom. it's an emotional interview and you will see it only on channel 9 [ crying. >> reporter: francis ryan and brother baring up against crushing grief because they want you to know who their daughter was. >> she was happy person. she seemed to make everything okay because we all loved and adored her, this is her in the hours before she was struck and kill bade hit and run driver at dupont circle with the group celebrating her 24th birthday. the family is consoled that bystanders, including a cyclists that chased after the driver helped. >> i cannot say how grateful i am that they were there to give

cpr to my child. for the young man who jumped on a bicycle and tracked this lady down after she did this horrendous thing and just ran like a coward and left my baby laying on the side of the road. >> i feel bad for this lady. i mean, i know she didn't do it on purpose but she had no business driving a car in her condition. my child did everything. she had a designated driver, and now she's gone. 24 years old. just a baby. hadn't even started her life. hadn't had a chance to meet her love. hadn't had a chance to have children. and all of that is cut short. it's all gone now. i don't know how i'm going to get up every day and not have my baby, not have my child. and them not have their sister and their aunt. she's left a huge hole in our heart and in our lives.

a local nonprofit in the spotlight. jon stewart announced hi wants all the donation forest his rally to go to the trust for the national mall. now who is this group and how did they catch comedy central's eye? >> a rally to restore sanity on october 30th. >> reporter: it might bring to the capitol 60,000 people. >> while you are planning your trip, contribute to the rally's designated charity the trust for the national mall. >> we have a call from his production company. we didn't know if it was a prank call. we called them back and they said, no, we are here and we want to support you. >> reporter: support that is coming in by the minute. >> we have been getting donations on-line. it's been fastin' fantastic. what do they plan to do with the money. >> they say their mission is to make the national mall the greatest park in the world. >> it has $400 million in deferred maintenance and needs more support to cover the 30 million people who come here

man 4: costing tax payers 17 million. anncr: tell bob ehrlich big banks don't need help. middle class marylanders do. back now with the latest on campaign 2010. in maryland, the candidates for governor today agreed to hold a second debate. incumbent martin o'malley and his predecessor robert ehrlich will face off in a radio broadcast on wolb. they will meet for the first debate on monday night and you can see it here on wusa 9's digital channel 9.2. that's 203 on comcast and 461 on fios and 805 on cox.

a former prince georges county candidate is charged with distributing illegal campaign materials. jerry mathis of fort washington is accused of publishing and distribute flyers before the primary for the 8th district seat. he is charged with falsely claiming the flyers were printed by a group called citizens for change, which is not registered with the board of elections. maryland will be the first state in the nation to make absentee ballots available on- line. it is part of a partnership between the university of maryland and the state board of elections. the on-demand ballot system creates a document that helps ensure only one ballot is counted per person. we have a link to the ballots at wusa9.com. just click on 9 news extras. and maryland's announce is on the same day the dc council was told it will be decades before voting could be done safely over the internet. that's a word from the university of michigan professor who hacked a prototype of a dc elections voting website to play the university's fight song. >> any computer scientist will

tell you that internet security is just a very, very difficult problem. and that's the problem with voting over the internet. we just don't know how to do it safely given the limitations of today's technology. >> reporter: the dc board of elections was hoping to launch an internet site this fall so absentee ballots could be filed from overseas the michigan teach said it was able to hack it within 36 hours of the test scythe going active and change the previous votes and see how each person had voted. today's country's biggest bank, bank of america mutts a freeze on home foreclosures across all 50 states. this is part of a growing investigation and the bank wants to review foreclosure cases for possible flaws in the paperwork. they say the foreclosure process on delinquent borrowers will con but it will not proceed to judgment or a foreclosure sale. harry reed is calling on other lenders to follow bank of

america's lead and review their cases as well. in florida one homeowner thought a pauler was trying to break in. turns our it was somebody hired by her bank. the contractor was trying to change the lock while she locked herself in a bathroom scared to death and dialing 911. a male outside and inside. >> i don't know. i'm locked in my bathroom. i don't know. i just know somebody is breaking -- somebody broke in to my house. >> the bank thought it was abandoned because the owner never established a payment plan and the utilities had been shut off. as you can see the electricity seems to work fine right now. the bank has since apologized for the misspeak. pilots are leading the navy's effort to convert jets and ships to alternative fuel. on plat's energy week, one pilot talked about flying a green hornet on -- oil. >> it confident in the first flight and go from there. you taxi, you look forward to

spill in but still really enjoyable next the next cool front rolls around. sterling and reston to burke and vienna and fairfax, upper 40s to near 50 degrees and mid- 50s downtown. a lot of 80s showing themselveses for that forecast an the washington metro. even though zone forecast has upper 70s, blue ridge appalachians, potomac high lands, frederick, 892, 83. and upper 70s over to the atlantic beaches. take a look at the next five days, sunny, warm and warm until we get a little cooler air behind that front on tuesday and wednesday. next cold front is showers on wednesday, thursday with typical fall air highs in the 60s. notary dick lousily cold. still bearable for this time of the year. from oreweeds news file tonight you know when you find true love, well this couple may have had an advance over most of us in figuring that out.
