and the cowboys, they came off a bye, tony romo talking to us about how he felt like the win into the bye for houston was a big-time performance down there, that the season had kind of restarted, they were starting anew, a new season. but they're very much in danger here. down seven, fourth quarter. could drop to 1-3 if they don't straighten this out. phil: the margin of error is so slim in the nfl. little techniques like the pass getting tipped by dave ball. the technique, it's it's wrong, it leads to a play. everybody goes, well it was just two plays. every game is like that, they're so close. which two plays is it going to be?

career. romo, in the area of austin he had to unload it with michael griffin in his face. phil: pressure, michael griffin, top of your screen, on the blitz, fights his way through, they're making tony romo anticipate the throws more than ever. just can't be accurate when you have to do this. cowboys make a mistake on the blocking. they had two guys there, blocked the same one. jim: romo, third down. young watching on the 60-yard-long jumbo screen. phil: i think they'll go it on fourth. jim: romo to bryant. turner rides him down. it's a couple short of the first. fourth and 2. phil: i think you go for it, give your offense this chance and if they don't make it, another chance to score the touchdown to tie it.

jim: cowboys did use a time-out in the third quarter. phil: that was a time-out they called it because they were confused about the play. jim: spread it out, four wides. romo changing things, stepping back to the 30. phil: everybody man-to-man. jim: across the middle, austin holding on, first down for the cowboys. phil: i didn't see how stephen tulloch got on miles austin, to the right of your screen, he's lined up against him, man-to-man. that's pretty good coverage. it was a little changeup. they've been going outside almost every single time against that defensive look but miles austin came in, stopped, then took off to the inside, most teams call it a jerk route. it worked very well.

for the cowboys, you know, the outcry is going to be, i can't believe they called it a penalty. well, yeah it's not an extreme case but you know if you let the players get involved, then all we would hear about is end zone celebrations. jim: that was a rule enacted two years ago, took a lot of those, like, multiple player celebrations out of the mix. phil: it gets out of hand. and then it's all they talk about all week. jim: we've got a great celebration planned. phil: it's the rule. they had to clean it up. jim: there's a man on the competition committee right there, jeff fisher. phil: honestly, nowadays, you probably have to take a little time every week to go over certain rule twhess players. be careful here, now, you can see some sun rays at the other end. mariani will be fielding this, looking into the sun. he's shielding his eyes.

jim: wade phillips pacing on that cowboys sideline. romo is over 400 for the first time in his career but he needs more than nine yards to keep the cowboys in the game. if they fail to convert, the math ends up that they could still get get the ball back. phil: they could. but you look at this with the titans -- would the titans blitz? i would say no. you've got tremendous pass rushers, why take the chance with the blitz. put the extra guys at pass

here. has to stop chris johnson, held by the shirt tail. by shaun lee. another update out of new york, back to you, greg gumbel. greg: how about those oakland raiders, at home, michael bush, three-yard touchdown run they miss the two-point conversion, oakland leads it by one, san diego starting to get intofield goal range. they're at the two-minute warning in oakland. jim: great update, thank you, greg. phil: let me say this about the titans, if they win this game, think about how they got it done. chris johnson with the big runs, the pass rush, they've intercepted a couple, then they did it on special teams too, jim. they look at every phase and go, everybody contributed. if they can hold on. jim: these last two touchdown drives they had, one off the pick, a one-yard drive, and one off the kick return and facemask penalty was a five-yard drive.

against the old houston team his dad used to coach hisms dad, the great bum phillips, has a book out right now, "bum phillips: coach, cowboy, christian." he's back on his ranch. the cowboys get the ball back. spencer bringing on chris johnson. phil: they'll get it under 1:00. it goes back to this too. we get all the answers after the facts are in but we say it every week. the nfl, so many games are close, the cowboys, using that time-out because they didn't get lined up correctly or whatever on offense that one time, it shows you, second half time-outs are gold. and you don't use them, sometimes it's better to take the five-yard penalty than it is to use your time-out. because just think if they had it, all the scenarios here

would change. jim: fibber takes a time-out with 58 seconds on the game clock. call on kern to try to pin the cowboys around the 10 or even deeper. phil: i like this you notice it more and more. teams are are not taking the penalties when they want to punt in situations like this because they want to get -- everybody is doing such a good job of kicking it, these punters, end over end, now they have less room to go down and get ready to catch the ball once it bounces. jim: makes everything more congested and compact. phil: it's just easier. in the old days when the punters were trying to turn it other, they'd get them back as far as they can because it always bounced in the end zone. jim: back in your days.

tulloch takes it down the sideline. they're a kneel-down away from going to 3-2. the titans win -- phil: the titans win because they made more big plays. jim: stephen tulloch steps in with the theft and the cowboys are are going to slump to 1-3. phil: this is taking one for the team, tony romo knows the chances of this being complete are very little but you throw them in there anyway. jim, quite honestly, tony romo played very well today. three interceptions, that's what they'll talk about. ian: the first 400-yard game for a cowboy since aikman did it in 1998. and that's it. shale shake hands and the

campbell took the place of the injured quarterback gradkowski for the raiders and looked pretty sharp today after he lost the job in week two. solomon: special teams have played the chargers once again on the road. jason campbell filling in for gradkowski has come up big, leading them on a drive to take the lead in this game. there's been a lot of different things happening but we're seeing an oakland raiders team possibly coming of age under head coach tom kay gell. we talked about the need to be able to close out games against their defensive rival, the san diego chargers. kevin: we've had four lead changes in this game, chargers had two red zone charges, and philip rivers has thrown for
