today to add an extra 40 minutes so their commute. i want to show you why. take a look at this map and you'll see the reason. you can see the farragut west and the mcpherson square stations will be closed until 5:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. there will be no service at metro center on the blue and orange line. orange line trains will be operating from vienna fairfax to foggy bottom and federal triangle to new carrollton. as for the blue line trains operating from franconia springfield to foggy bottom and federal triangle to largo town center. free shuttle service will be available around the closed stations. metro says the work is needed to meet safety recommendations made by the ntsb. they are going to be installing new track switches and safety lights, replacing old tracks an repairing platforms. so metro riders may also expect to see shorter delays today, about 30 extra minutes along the yellow and red lines.

red line trains will be single tracked between shady grove and twinbrook to repair the platform platform. now, the good news is that i'm standing here at the fox give bottom metro station and you can see all of the metro shuttle buss are lined up to take people to and from the stations and there's a ton of them. that's good news. the other good news is all the metro stations will indeed be back up and running in time for the morning rush tomorrow morning when all of those federal employees return to work. jessica? >> that's definitely good news. thank you so much. police believe alcohol may have played a role in a crash that killed two pedestrians on sunday morning in rockville pike in rockville. police say 3:19 a.m., two men from silver spring were struck and killed. the driver a 25year -old man, stayed on the scene to render

beltway. -- to the exalt belt capital beltway. the inner and outer loop. brighter. connecticut avenue everything is okay. the lanes are wide open. back to you. a couple of commuter alerts for drivers this week. construction crews will be closing hundreder mill road where it intersects the dulles toll road tonight through friday night. these closures will run each night from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. weathered aer with mitting. doctor permitting. in high sons corner project is creating major changes for drivers. tomorrow all lanes of 495 northbound will shift left over 123, that's chain bridge road. the pattern will be in affect up to two years an the ramp from 123 to 495 will be closed during that time. new signals will guide drives through the detour.

vdot is warning drivers to expect delays during peak travel times. the brother of albert haynesworth will be buried tomorrow in south carolina. this weekend, lance mccoy was honored in a motorcycle memorial ride. haynesworth led a group of bikers through parts of nashville, tennessee to a memorial service in his brother's honor. he was killed when he collided with a car in nashville. mccoy's father remembered his final words to his son and only wishes the biking enthusiast would have listened. >> man, please slow it down before somebody scrapes you. i said, man, be careful. that's the last time i talked to my son. >> reporter: now haynesworth said he is greatly appreciative for all the love an support he and his family have received during this difficult time. while the redskins await haynesworth's return to the field, they have something to celebrate on the field, an

a moment but first howard is here with the forecast. >> good morning to you on this columbus day. this warm, summer-like day here. kind of weird to be talking about temperatures which will be in the 80s, possibly near 90 for october 11th. but that's what we have in store for you. no real chill in the east except new york state and maine. that's it. a lot of 60s and 50s out there. a couple of 40sin asheville and women williamsport, pennsylvania. fairfax 66. 62 rockville. also in springfield. andrews checks in with 62 and friends in columbia at 59. crofton 61. sunshine today. 77 by noon. 83 at 5:00. we will have highs in the mid- 80s which will crush the record at dulles. we will talk about what the record is that we are shooting

for at 5:45. here's angie. >> howard bernstein, crushing it. hey, everybody. right now holiday traffic is very nice and light out there. no real problems to report at this time. we want to take you outside and show you live camera at 270 southbound. everything is clear frederick past falls road to the split. as we move to virginia, 66 eastbound, no issues to report this way. looks clear from centreville to inside the beltway. no major delays just yet. 295 southbound at eastern avenue is where we wrap it up. a great example of an incident- free drive to the district. back to you. for people who have to work this morning, riding metro could be difficult or impossible. metro has closed three rail stations along the blue and orange lines over the columbus day weekend. kristin fisher is live from the foggy bottom station with news on how this could impact the morning commute. kristin? >> reporter: i could get ugly

out there because if you are riding or planning to ride on the blue or orange line through downtown washington, you are going to need to add an extra 40 minutes to your commute if you ride on the red or yellow line. certain sections you will have to add 30 minutes. i will break it down for you using the ipad. check this out. here's the deal. if you are riding on the blue or orange line, they are going to be closed, these two metro stations right here, farragut west and mcpherson square. they are going to be closed on the blue and orange line. also, metro center is not going to be open for anybody on the blue and orange line. what this means is that the orange line is going to be open from vienna fairfax all the way to fox give bottom. then you are going to have to take a shuttle bus if you are going from here to foggy bottom. metro service will resume on

the orange line. if the -- for the blue line you have service from franconia springfield to foggy bottom and hop on the bus and metro rail will resume from federal triangle all the way to largo town center on the blue line. , now, two more things to.out to you. on the yellow line, they will be single tracked between huntington and braddock road for a landscaping project. expect to add 30 minutes for travel time there. now, metro says they chose this weekend to do all of this work because rush hour ridersship is down 40% on columbus day. in 2009, metro reported 358,000 trips on columbus day. compare that to roughly 704,000 trips the following monday.

so it really is a good thing they are doing all of this work this holiday weekend. the good news is that metro service at all of the stations will be back to normal by 5:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, and the other thing up to.out is that i'm seeing a ton of shuttle buses here at the foggy bottom station. hopefully the delays won be too long if you are on the orange and blue line traveling through downtown washington. the makers of transformers three will be in town to film scenes for a robot war. sounds like fun but it means a sleeve slew of street closings beginning today. the areas afced are around the you can gee a list -- you can get a list at wusa9.com. an investigation in to the

prince georges count. firefighter. they were responding to a call yesterday afternoon and other units handled the call. the firefighter was take on the the hospital and is recovering from his injuries. the farmers on the board of the faulkier livestock exchange voted to rebuild according to the "washington post." a fire destroyed the complex last month. firefighters freed more than 200 animals from their pens, while 19 died in the fire. the exchange is nearly 50 years old and it could cost over $1 million to rebuild. a prince georges county neighborhood honored its most famous native son this weekend ♪ [ music ] that is hometown legend chuck brown. he was the guest of honor at the fairmont heights maryland family festival. the man dubbed the father of go go said he is honored about a proposal to rename the market circumstance toll chuck brown circle. >> this is my old stomping

there's a front up there and that front will slide south over the next day and a half. as the front comes south, a little wave of low pressure passing it will bring in two things a it will start to cool us down a little bit tomorrow and the showers tomorrow morning in pennsylvania, they will slide south also. middle of the afternoon, we can't rule out a shower or two. an by the way, look at the rain on tuesday to the west. low pressure will come on that front. and that could be here on thursday. so while we will cool down we may turn wet here for part of the week. an we still need some rain. wednesday a cool rain and 62. if that happens may be in the a 0s and 60 on friday and what nice looking weekend ahead. overall not so bad. we have a new traffic alert to

tell you about. we want you to know in the riverdale area. u.s. 1 southbound is closed at route 410. that's because of an accident. police say they will be investigating this until about 6:45 this morning. meanwhile, 95, one of the most heavily traveled roads at this time, is looking nice and clear. partly due to the holiday. heading northbound no major delays past the car rest area. 395, continuing on this roadway a nice clean commute. 270 southbound at 121, tracking a little volume past this point but overall you are doing okay to the split. ending with a shot of the outer and inner loop we take you to the capital beltway and in maryland, i want to show you near the new hampshire avenue exit, drivers are moving at speed. now, back to you. it may feel like you are being robbed whenever you park your car next to a meter but that could soon change in the district. some city council members are considering a roll back of the
