battled over who would be allowed in the audience. it was a debate that almost didn't happen over last-minute wrangling about partisan in the audience according to one ehrlich spokesman but the show did go on and the sparring was spirited. scott broom is in baltimore with a blow-by-blow for the first meeting between o'malley and ehrlich in the 2010 rematch. >> the campaigns agreed to this television station here in baltimore would be neutral ground for this televised debate but o'malley partisans showed up in force and nearly derailed the showdown. an all o'malley crowd made the front of w jay-z tv in baltimore a no go zone for former governor ehrlich. he chose to enter through a back door instead. inside partisans included barbara mikulski. >> we didn't think that was right. >> and ehrlich's staff chafed. >> was it almost a deal breaker? >> almost. >> this is emotional. >> reporter: instead the debate went on, albeit late with

turnout is likely to be the deciding factor. scott broom, 9 news now. >> you can watch the debate in its entirety tonight at 7:00 on 9.2, that's channel 203 on comcast, 461 on fios and 805 on cox. then on thursday at noon, o'malley and ehrlich will go toe-to-toe again at the "washington post." we will be airing that live on 9 news now and wusa9.com. our own derek mcginty will be one of the panelists. that is this thursday at noon. president obama isn't running for re-election this time around but he most certainly is campaigning trying to help fellow democrats keep control of congress. a short time ago mr. obama left town aboard air force one headed for miami. he's speaking to the democratic congressional campaign committee. later this week he will speak at rallies in delaware and massachusetts. republican leaders are doing like wise. top house republican john boehner was in florida offering support to a candidate for

congress. but one local democrat is probably not going to be calling the white house for any campaign help. west virginia senate candidate seems to be distancing himself from the president. his campaign released a new ad called dead aim. in it he fires a rifle in to a target labeled cap and trade bill. he also vows to repeal what he calls "the bad parts of obama care. " that's what republicans call health care reform. that despite the former fromming was campaigning for him today. he is running for the seat of the late robert byrd. takoma park police are talking to a person of interest in the sexual assault of a woman inside of the montgomery county library. so far no charges have been filed. this happened saturday afternoon at the college's takoma park campus. peggy fox was there live and we have to warn you, details all of this may not be appropriate for children to hear, righting

peggy. >> absolutely. i can tell you the victim got a good description of the suspect and campus police even got the suspect's license plate so it is no wonder police have a person of interest in custody tonight. what is surprising is even though a crime alert went out, most students seem to know nothing about it. ew! >> what? >> ew! >> students were shocked to read the disgusting details of saturday's understand glen wow! that's all i can say. >> reporter: it happened in the library's resource center building. police say a female student was sitting on the upper level when a man walked by and ejaculated on her. she told police she turned around to see the man with his private parts pulled out of his pants. >> i'm shocked. just come to the library to study and something like that, you woulden expect that. >> you have to be crazy to do something like that. that's rude. not sane, that's insane. >> reporter: the man fled and while the victim was reporting the incident to the reception

desk, the suspect came back and spoke to the woman. he fled again with campus security chasing him. >> when they spotted the suspect, they pursued him and actually pursued him through another building and he got in to a car and left but they were able to capture a description of the vehicle and a license plate which they provided to takoma park police. >> reporter: we also know police have dna of the suspect and we hear they have video surveillance of the suspect. they have a person of interest in custody, but no charges have been filed at this time. reporting live in takoma park, peggy fox, 9 news now. >> thank you. police say alcohol and speed led to a fiery crash this morning after two women tried to flee from police. the car ended up in the front yard of a group home at the intersection of east-west highway and route 1 in riverdale. the car took down poles, traffic signs and knocked out a fire hydrant. both women were thrown from the car as it went up in flames. >> i'd say the screech lasted about three seconds followed by

a really intense banging. you could hear glass shattering, as well as crumpling noise. >> reporter: and that is what the car looked like after it was all over being towed from the scene. both women are still in critical condition tonight. police are following up on a report of a suspicious car. they were never able to talk to the driver before she took off leading to that chase. the driver of a motorcycle who lost control of his bike and crashed in college park this morning has died. the accident happened in the 9500 block of baltimore avenue around 10:45. the prince georges county police investigation is still ongoing but officers think the driver clipped the curb and was thrown from his bike. two drivers are lucky to be okay after an accident on the set of transformers 3, the movie. a fan caught the whole thing on tape this afternoon in dc. it happened during a chase scene with a famous yellow camaro bumblebee. a metropolitan police cruiser was responding to a call, cut

a commuter alert for drivers. work on the dulles metro rail. all four lanes of 95 northbound or the inleer loop will move to the left over 12. once drivers cross chain bridge road the lanes will shift back to the right and tie in with existing beltway traffic. the ramp from 123 north to 495 north will close starting tonight, as well. drivers will have to turn left at a turn signal to get on the inner loop. vdot says the changes will be in affect up to two years. let's look at the rest of the evening rush hour with patranya bhoolsuwan. >> a lot of people have the day off today, so that's lessens the amount of commute out there as well as accidents, but we
