not as warm as yesterday when we were in the upper 80s. upper 70s to lower 80s and a threat of a shower. so far, most and i mean most of the rain and thunderstorms have stayed in pennsylvania. a few snuck in to maryland. last night we had a few in eastern montgomery county, prince georges county ' points east and over to philly and williamsport where they are seeing rain. we are looking at temperatures in the 50s and 60s. by 9:00 56. at noon, north wind, nine miles an hour. and cannot rule out shower this afternoon. upper 70s to low 80s. drive home temperature 79. it is 5:00 a.m. how's the tuesday commute? >> good morning, everybody. so far so good. let's check it out. no major accidents to report. an accident at montgomery village avenue is gone. 95 an the bw parkway, pretty much smooth sailing out of baltimore past 198 to powder mill on both of these roadways. we want to move it outside and take you to virginia.

95 northbound. looks like lanes are wide open between the prince william parkway and the capital beltway. no delays yet. 495 in virginia, the construction on the inner loop is out of the way right now. you want to watch for a new traffic pattern near 123 near the exit out there. you want to shift over to the left more. on the outer loop, the lanes are wide open. moving at speed on the inner loop you are doing fine, as well. a live shot at university. and andrea, that's how we will wrap it up. back to you. maryland state police are investigating a deadly pedestrian accident on 270. the crash happened right before midnight in gaithersburg. the driver remained on the scene after hitting a woman in the southbound lanes near route 124. she's not been identified. most of the southbound lanes were shut down overnight for accident reconstruction, but are now open. police have now charged 25- year-old roman of rockville with dui in a deadly pedestrian crash and authorities say he

could face additional charges. two men in their 20s died in the crash. both are from silver spring. it happened early on sunday at rockville pike and marinelli drive. police say roman left the scene for a while before returning. traffic experts say pedestrians usually suffer the most no matter who's at fault. >> pedestrians understand, unfortunately, drivers may not be paying attention. you don't have the protection of a one ton or two ton vehicle around you. you need to make sure you are paying attention because if you are not you could lose your life. >> reporter: and after the rash of pedestrian crashes in the dc area, this morning u.s. transportation secretary ray la hood is hosting a pedestrian safety event. it starts at 9:00 a.m. at the yards park in southeast washington. police say two women have critical injuries after their car crashed. once the driver sped away from an approaching officer.

it happened in riverdale, maryland. the car ended up in the front yard of a group home after taking out poles, traffic signs and a fire hydrant. both women were thrown from the car as it went up in flames. police say alcohol and speed were factors in the crash and they don't know why the driver sped away in the first place. the officer was checking out a suspicious car report. an investigation is underway after a police cruiser struck a teenager in gaithersburg. the teen was crossing the street at darnstown and quince orchard road. he was not seriously injured and police say he was outside of the cross walk at the time. a crash headline day one of filming the new transformers movie in dc but it one planned by producers. kristin fisher is live on location where some scenes, some chase scenes were being shot in northwest. good morning, kristin. >> good morning. well, without a doubt the thing

that had everyone talking yesterday on the first day of filming of transformers in washington wasn't the stars or all of the street closures, it was an unscripted crash between auto bot bumblebee and a dc police car. all right. now i know you want to see it. put down your coffee. here it is. it was caught on tape by a fan of the movie who wanted to stop by and see the filming, and this person got more than they bargained for. the crash happened around 3:30 yesterday afternoon at third and maryland in front of the national museum of the american indian. the dc police k-9 unit was enroute to a suspicious when it slammed in to to bumblebee while they were filming the movie. the area had been shut down by police as part of a number of street closings to accommodate the filming but heying accidents happen. and the police officer and the stunt car driver walked away with no injuries but bumblebee

not so much. he was taken away on a flat bed truck. >> when i saw bumblebee got crumbled my heart dropped. like oh, no. not bumblebee. >> the police car and whamo. >> everyone was surprised for sure. even the crew seemed to be surprised. the crash was the talk of the town. yesterday was columbus day. not a lot of people at work and not as much traffic on the national mall as there typically is. so people were not as focused op the street closures as they will be today and today there are a ton of them. check this out. there are three pages of either street closures or parking restrictions in or around the nation's capital and in arlington. i'm not going to read all the locations or we would be here all morning but if you want to see where they are and if you want to figure out whether they

in the news now, the white house says president obama has agreed there must be a full investigation in to a botched hostage rescue attempt in afghanistan. alternate officials say american forces may have detonated a grenade that killed linda norgrove, a british aide worker last friday. she was abduct last month along with three afghan co-workers. president obama is back from a trip to miami. he greeted a crowd at the airport before heading to the home of former georgetown star alonzo mourning for a private fund-raiser. the president will hold a town hall meeting at george washington university. the coast guard says six voters

around the duke street exit. in to the district we go and that's how we will wrap it up. the suitland parkway at south capitol street giving you the double thumbs up. andrea, back to you. in the living well headlines, doctors are now testing a human embryonic stem cell treatment on spinal cord injuries. it's the first time the controversial medical treatment has been used on a human in a government-approved study. the procedure took place at a spinal cord and brain injury hospital in atlanta. the stem cell drug is injected in the spine within two weeks of an injury to see if it helps nerves regenerate. doctors will see whether the treatment is safe and should know if it is working in one or two months. a new way to predict a woman's risk of breast cancer is causing controversy. some are trying at-home dna test kits to see if they carry the brca gene. its presence indicates an 80% chance a woman will develop breast cancer.

unrelated charges. her father says it is possible his wife could have been involved in the disappearance. the u.s. army psychiatrist charged in the deadly shooting spree at court hood, texas is due in court today. major hassan is expected to appear at a military hearing to determine whether there is enough evidence to put him on trial. he's accused of killing 13 people and wounding 32 more last november. the hearing is expected to last three weeks. military grade c-4 plastic explosives were found in a cemetery in manhattan. a volunteer cleaning up over the weekend found it and initially left it before informing police. investigators say the explosives had actually been dug up by a gardener in nay or june of 2009 but were left near a fence. as more two and four- wheeled vehicles share the road, there are more conflicts between drivers and cyclists. more on that coming up. plus, in the wreckage of a huge hedge fund fraud, auction nears uncover a major collection of

to work. the biker is supposed to be in the street riding with the traffic. on this one-way street the biker was coming in the opposite direction, facing traffic when he collided with the suv. >> that's a bummer he was ticketed going the wrong way. >> i didn't know you could get ticketed for that. >> reporter: this rider can see some bikers have their own set of rules if the road. >> i try to follow the rules as much as i can. it is a little dangerous. >> reporter: visitor from beijing, where there are more bikes than cars. >> there are rules for bikers but usually vehicles feel more superior to bikers. >> reporter: washington is the 8th largest city for bike commuters. city leaders are looking to move up in the ranks. already there are 48 miles of new bike lanes. lon anderson of aaa sees problems. >> we have a truck parked in a bicycle lane. if you are a a bicyclist coming this way you have to swerve in to traffic to get an that
