are taking the marc train on this line. i want to show you what i'm talking about. we have two train cancellations that are going to affect the morning rush. as of now, they are train 894, which is departing frederick at 7:10 a.m. and then train 880 departing brunswick at 7:80 a.m. the best alternatives will be 8 t 4 departing frederick at 7:20. the train will have extra cars or train 878 departing martinsburg at 6:30 a.m. it normally departs 7:07 but it will hold until 7:40. riders should expect significant overcrowding. other alternatives include 990 route to shady grove or the montgomery county ride on with service to rockville and silver spring. so, what caused all of these cancellations? police say it was an apparent

suicide yesterday afternoon. a train struck and killed a man who had been standing on the tracks sow of this rockville station. that shut down the brunswick line for several hours during the heart of the evening rush which meant many of the marc crews were not able to have their federally mandated time off duty last night. federal railroad administration rules require all crews passengerring operating passenger trains have time off. hopefully mta says they are expecting all trains will be up and running in time for the evening rush. keep in mind more cancellations could be coming. andrea? >> thank you for that update. the current and presumptive next mayor of the district stood together with one of the most controversial figures in the city. michelle rhee announced she's

resigning at the end of the month. >> the best way to keep the reforms going is for this reformer to step aside. chairman gray has made his commitment to continuing the progress and reforms clear to me and to my team of dedicated dcps staff who has done so much to turn around our schools. >> reporter: rhee had been expected to step aside since vincent gray defeated her boss, current mayor fenty in last month's democratic primary but some believed she may stay on a while longer. gray introduced henderson has the chancellor. the union for public works employees is increasing a call for greater security after a dpw workers murder on wednesday morning. larry hutchins was shot and killed at the lot in northeast. his mother had to be hospitalized after getting the news of her son's death. they say the gunman fired 12 rounds killing hutchins and wounding another employee as they arrive to start their

shift. counselors are available for the 300 dpw employees who work at that site. police have arrested a kensington man in the stabbings outside of the thirsty turtle bar in college park. ramos is charged with three counts of attempted murder. four men, including three university of maryland students were stabbed on tuesday, all are recovering. owners of the thirsty turtle have not responded to our request for a reaction to the university of maryland police chief's comments that the bar should be shut down. the search is on for a car jacker who stole a vehicle with a child inside. prince georges county police say the carjacking happened just before 9:30 last night in oxon hill. the vehicle was taken from a shell gas station at branch avenue and naylor road. officers found in the car a short time later along southern avenue with the 4-year-old still inside but okay. the car jacker ran away from the scene. a rash of burglaries in

fairfax, virginia have families concerned about safety in their traditionally quiet part of the county. there were two more break ins and one attempted home burglary in vienna on tuesday night. authorities believed the recent break ins are linked to the person responsible for numerous burglaries in fairfax and prince william counties. they really you the first line of defense, lock your doors and windows. it is time for another "living $mart" report and jessica doyle has the latest. >> so far so good for earnings. the latest rounds sparked another rally yesterday and more on tap today from the likes of amd and google reports after the bell. alsoen on the economic agenda, new jobless claims and a look at inflation. in trading today, asian markets followed wall street higher the dow is at 11096 after adding 75 and the nasdaq climbed by 23 and the s&p jumped by 8. more

victims and witnesses talked about the ft. hood shooting. the hearing is to determine whether hassan will stand trial. prosecutors have not said whether they will seek the death penalty. crews are working to repair the electrical system inside of the fort mchenry tunnel in baltimore. they were damaged on tuesday when a school bus caught fire, forcing most of the tunnels to shut down. the electrical repair should take a few days to complete. mrs. obama campaigned for senate candidate. it is one of her first campaign stops as democrats send her across the country to help party candidates. a doctor accused of moving some of his abortion patients across state lines in to maryland is punished. that story is coming up. and the competitors in today's great chesapeake bay scooter race will be battling

that's at 5:25. over to you. a new jersey doctor has had his license suspended after he had patients travel to maryland for late-term abortions. new jersey's attorney general says dr. steven brigham started late-term abortions with medication in that state, which doesn't allow the late-term procedure, but then he finished them a day later, 60 miles away in oakton, maryland where the law is more permissive. the board that suspended his license yesterday called his actions manipulative and deceptive. brigham plans to appeal. a dc-based nutritionist is on a campaign called just ten. dr. rose says losing ten pounds can be the catalyst of feeling, looking and living better. she's promoting the program along with dr. oz. dr. rose says most americans could start with portion control. >> if you want to be a member of the lean plate club, not the clean plate club.

women pending rain. trains have been cancelled after a pedestrian accident yesterday afternoon. it happened near the rockville station. that's where we find kristin fisher. kristin i good morning. >> reporter: good morning, andrea. we now have three marc trains that have been cancelled for this morning, and there could be more cancellations coming. this is the situation if you use the marc train you are going to want to check their website, mt a's website before you head out to begin your commute this morning. i want to tell you why this happened first and foremost. this all started yesterday afternoon. unfortunately, police say, there was a -- this was an apparent will suicide and a train literally struck a person who was standing on the tracks south of where i am now at the rockville station. that shut down the brunswick line for several hours during the heart of the evening rush, which meant that many of the marc crews were not able to have their federally mandated time off duty last night.

the federal railroad administration rules require that all crews operating passenger trains have eight hours of off duty every night in between trips. so now marc does have some stand by crews but not enough to staff at normal levels this morning. that's why these three trains have been cancelled and they are train 870, which was suppose supposed to depart the brunswick station this morning. the train has been cancelled. also train 894, departing frederick at 7:10 a.m. and 880 departing brunswick at 7 houston 40 a.m. the best alternatives are 894 departing frederick at 7:20. the train will have extra cars or there's 878 departing martinsburg at 6:30. it normally departs at 7:07 but today it will hold until 7:40 this morning. now, mta says riders need to expect and plan for significant overcrowding this morning.

in the news now, health officials in chile say the 33 miners are in remarkably good shape after spending two months trapped a half mile underground. the final minerring the shift supervisor who insisted on coming up last was pulled to the surface last night. one miner has pneumonia and several need surgery. dozens of people have been arrested in a medicare saddam.

near 60. winds turn to the north and the west. looking at the radar over the past several hours. you see how the rain moved in from west virginia in to western maryland. it is really coming in now in to parts of west virginia, as well. we switch to live doppler 9000 hd. you can see what is happening. the rain is closer to washington. i-81 you have rain. win chest and front royal to the west of strasburg, as well. clinton to brandywine a little shower. and then better coverage here for better or worse better coverage at the potomac from lorton to woodbridge down to quantico. even at the charles county now. heavier showers are showing up culpeper and points west. boy it is really coming down here. it is moving northeast. amissville, sperryville ballston will get some of this in the next 15 to 20 minutes and richmond will get thunder in the next two hours because of the action south of 64 is showing that. it's a cool morning out there.
