at times. angie? >> good morning. kicking off the 6:00 hour early on this thursday. the filming continues out in this district. here's a live shot at pennsylvania and independence. the streets affected, third between constitution and independence and 4th street between pennsylvania and independence until 6:30 this morning. let's take you to the maps and show you a wide view of the area. we will zoom in to new york avenue and show you it live. more volume is picking up about the times building so far, but no significant delays to report. back to our maps. let's take another look at the whitehurst freeway. live conditions. it reveals 27th street northwest remains -- or near 27th street northwest if you move it outside, we are incident and accident free out this way. wrap with a look at the travel times. 66 eastbound we are in the again from the fairfax county parkway to the beltway. only taking 12 minutes.

13 minutes on the inner loop from 395 to the toll road and 6 minutes from 674 to the capital beltway on the toll road. we have a focus on maryland roads at 6:10. at the top of the hour, here's a look at the stories happening today. the district will unveil a plan for the walter reed army medical center northwest. when the center moves to to bethesda, the city will get 62- acres to redevelop. the plan will include homes and retail areas. ground breaking for the new national law enforcement museum. it will be next to the law enforcement memorial in most. attorney general eric holder will be on hand for today's event. former secretary of state condoleezza rice will be in pentagon city today. she'll be signing copies of her new book. the event begins at 11:00 a.m. also this morning, lingering problems on the marc commuter rail will have an impact on the trip to work. kristin fisher is following

this commuter alert. she's live from the train station in rockville. kristin? >> reporter: hey, good morning, andrea. well, three marc trains have now been cancelled for this morning. i want to show you where they are and what we are talking about. this is a map of the marc commuter trains systems. this is union station, dc down here. montgomery, frederick county, washington county and this is the brunswick line starting at martinburg and frederick and this, the three trains cancelled are all along this route here. the trains we are talking about. one of them happened this morning at phi clock this morning out of brunswick. the two other marc trains that have been cancelled are train 894 departing frederick at 7:20 a.m -- excuse me, i'm so sorry. it is 89 departing frederick at 7:10. and train 880 departing brunswick at 7:40. those are the two other trains that have been cancelled.

the best alternates are 894 departing frederick at 7:20 a.m. or 878 departing martinsburg at 63 o. it will hold at the brunswick station until 7:40 this morning. other alternatives include taking 991 or the montgomery county ride on with service to rockville and silver spring. what caused all of these cancellations? unfortunately police say it was an apparent suicide. yesterday afternoon, a freight train struck and killed a man who had been on the tracks sow of the rockville station. that shut down the line for several hours during the heart of the rush. which meant many of the marc train crews were not able to have their federally mandated eight hours of time off duty last night. marc does of course have some stand by crews but not enough to stand at normal levels this morning. so the mta says they are planning on being back up and running. all trains in service, hopefully in time for the

evening rush today. but keep in mind they are warning that more train cancellations could be coming. so that is something that we are certainly going to want to watch for if you do indeed use the brunswick line for either the morning or evening commute. back to you. >> thank you for the update. ten weeks ago, who thought this is what we would be saying. all 33 trapped miners in chile are safe and sound this morning. the last of the miners was pulled to safety two hours ago. the foreman was number 33. the rescue operation took just over 24 hours. none of the rescuers were hurt in what is called a flawless operation. it captured a worldwide audience including the chilean ambassador here in washington. he says it shows the power of the human spirit. >> there's so many lessons. the unity, the friendship of other countries, supporting our effort there. so -- i'm the happiest

ambassador now representing my chile. >> reporter: visitors to the embassy northwest signed a book of well wishes for the miners. it will be stoned them -- sent to them in chile. police are looking for a car jacker who took a car with a 4- year-old inside but the child is okay. the car was taken from a gas station at branch avenue and naylor road in oxon hill and found a short time later at 25th and southern avenues. the child was okay but the bad guy ran off. police don't have a suspect in custody and they haven't said why someone was shooting at two sanitation workers. one of the men was killed and the other wounded. 51-year-old larry hutchins of suitland, maryland died yesterday morning. he was killed when someone fired two dozens of rounds at the trash truck lot on w street in northeast. dc police say the gunman was wearing some kind of uniform. the shooting forced the city to halt trash pickups for the day. dc's presumptive next mayor says he will continue the

current slate of public school reforms. vincent gray announced henderson will now lead the school system. >> never in my wildest dreams did i imagine we could reach such hites as a district. i'm excited about where we are. and i'm thrilled the management team has agreed to stay on to continue this work. >> henderson will mentor her friend outgoing chancellor michelle rhee. rhee hasn't said what her next move is but set up a facebook and twitter account to eventually announce already plans. jessica doyle is back with a living smart report. you have the latest scam warning for us. >> this is about bugs. everybody's talking abusion recently. homeowner are seeing infestations this fall and scam artists are seeing opportunity. bed bug and stink bugs are tough to wipe out and the problem can linger longer if the wrong pest control company gets in your home. neerz what you need to know to

exterminate the scams. >> bed bugs, stink bugs, recent infestations of those creepy crawlers have left some homeowners desperate to boot them for good and scam artists noticed. so when looking for help, do your research. an exterminator should have the proper certification and ideally be a member of a national or local trade association and be backed by the local pest control regulatory board. >> when it comes to bed bugs we suggest the company you are dealing with has experience. bed bugs have been one of the most difficult tasks to complete in our industry. >> reporter: be wary of so- called pest control officials that knock on the door to warn of infestations in the neighborhood looking for cash up front for on the fly extermination. >> if you suspect you have bed bugs in your home, maybe on your mattress there is one thing you shouldn't do.

the weather computer, we have been watching the rain moving in. if you watched topper last night he said the rain would be moving in and sure enough it is moving in this morning. some of that stuff approaching richmond, some lightning and thunder down there. live doppler 9000 hd on the hour. live as we speak, showing you the rain to the west and the south right now. closer in to the metro, dc north and east we are fine. on the south side of the beltway, the wilson bridge in to areas of charles county, a little renegade shower here in upper marlboro. but from clinton, south and west now, we are really seeing the action, west of 30 , west of brandywine, you can see accokeek, brians road it is coming down here a good clip. it goes back to marbury. there's more rain to the west and southwest and over to the culpeper area it has been coming down at a good clip. amissville, heavy showers heading toward you and

unionville out west. stanley as things move northeast through the park and in to northern virginia up to winchester now and points west in to west virginia over to hagerstown, as well. this is lifting northeast. some of these we see the yellow and orange. that's hefty rain coming down right now. what do you expect for today? rain, more rain. >> rain is coming down at noon, as well. by 5:00 the rain shuts down in the metro west. eastern areas are still dealing with good rains as well through 6:00 or 7:00 or so. 60 in annapolis and 48 in frederick. 50 martinsburg with the rain in culpeper, 57. and fredericksburg at 59 degrees. this is what we expect today. low pressure will be moving to the east with the rain through midday and in the afternoon i have to get the clock back on. i was working on it. this was 5:00. still with good rains here. we go through tonight. notice, 9:00, 10:00, things are

shutting down. in new england it is coming down at a good clip. on friday, 5:00 on friday a couple of showers an. looking at the extended forecast, rain today. a shower is possible with wind on friday, we should be clear for friday night football. just crisp. saturday windy and 64. as we look at the extended, sunny and 70 on sunday and then monday, tuesday and wednesday night and upper 60s to low 70s. it is 6:18. time for angie's traffic. >> a traffic alert. looking live from sky t. here's the situation. we have a disabled tractor- trailer. it's on southbound route 1 at 198. you want to stay to the left to get by. obviously not a lot of traffic out this way right now. not affecting the flow too much. notice we have some beltway issues. as we take a look at the screen. this is route 5, branch avenue. right now volume is light in the area but still not a bad idea to give yourself a couple

of extra minutes if you are traveling this way because crews will be responding to the scene and taking away lanes as needed. a wide view of the area, everywhere else is nice clean and green. that's how we like it. incident and accident free. drivers are slowing down. a good amount of volume between 50 and 123. the good news is you have all of the lanes. back to the maps and show you the inner loop is slowing down as well in virginia. we will move it outside and show you the delay. it's starting approaching rout 50. coming up, we will look at the maryland roads. now, back to andrea. >> thank you. the time is 6:19. police in prince georges county think they have the man behind a series of stabbings in college park. they arrested the 21-year-old ramos from kensington, maryland. he was involved in a fight at the thirsty turtle bar. the fight spilled in to the

looking to the south charles county in to southern portion county light to moderate showers there but really picks up to the shenandoah valley i 81 corridor. many areas in northern virginia seeing the rain. look at the future cast on the weather computer. we will watch the action move in the next couple of hours. really start to come in toward prince william and faulkier county at 7:00 or so. by mid-morning, 9:30, just about everybody is seeing a good swath of moderate rainfall. that will be with us through midday. part of the afternoon, in to mid afternoon, things shut down out west. eastern areas seeing the heavyest rain and tealing with rain south and east and clearing to the west. temperatures won't be moving much. only to 60 for a high today and then the winds kick in tonight. a look at the virginia weather in eight minutes. >> good thursday morning. finally better news on the beltway accident on the outer loop at route 5, branch avenue. getting word you have the lanes back. the accident has cleared out of the way. we want to take a wide shot of

a lot of marc commuters unfortunately. three trains have been cancelled this morning, along the brunswick line. i want to show you exactly what we are talking about. this is a map of all of marc train service in the area. the line that's affected in the brunswick line. and it goes all the way through in to germantown, gaithersburg, rockville, garrett park and down to silver spring and rockville. so, this is the line that we are talking about. this is the line that's having all of the problems this morning. let's get to the trains that have been cancelled. one was cancelled at 5:00 this morning. train number 870 out of brunswick the next train is train 898 departing frederick at 7:10 a.m. and 880 departing brunswick at

7:40 a.m. here's the best alternates if you want to use the marc train and you don't want to take any of the other alternatives. 894 departing frederick at 7:20 a.m. 878 departing martinsburg at 6:38 a.m. that will hold until 7:80 this morning at brunswick. other alternates include the mta bus route to shady grove or the montgomery county ride on with service to rockville and silver spring. what caused all of the cancellations? that's something a lot of people have been wondering. it is a very sad story. police say it was an apparent suicide. a man was just standing on the tracks south new wave oven this rockville station yesterday afternoon when a freight train came by and struck and killed him. that's why we are dealing with this. it has been a ripple affect. the crews that worked the incident were delayed getting home.

they are required to have eight hours of breaks in between shifts and we are feeling the affects heading back to the commute. hopefully it will be up and running in time for the evening rush. >> thank you. tonight people across northern virginia are welcome to a meeting to talk about the serial burglar. some one or some group has hit 100 homes in the past few months. the latest target vienna. the thieves stole money. the particulars are targeted neighborhoods in loudoun and fairfax county. police have schism advice for residents. >> we need the citizens to be vigilant about locking their homes, turning their alarms on and locking up their vehicles as well because somebody could get in the vehicle and use the garage door opener to gain access to the home. >> there's a community meeting tonight to discuss the burglaries at the grange at 9818 georgetown pike.

it begins at 7:30. police at the university of virginia are asking students to be vigilant. five female uva students have been sexually assaulted in the last month. charlottesville police are deploying extra officer and the school sent out a warning to students to be careful. there is a problem at george washington university, as well. police met with students and foggy bottom residents last night. they talked about the restaurant of a rape near washington circle. a woman in her 20s was attacked on wednesday morning. so far, no arrests in the case. now to the latest on the miracle mine rescue in chile. the nightmare is over for those 33 men. all of them are safe and back on the surface this morning. charlie d'agata takes a look at the rescue that went better than anyone expected. >> finally there's freedom for the men now known in chile as the 33. the miners trapped for 69 days in an underground prison are

all out. >> we have experienced a night that we will never forget. full of emotion. full of joy. >> reporter: the last miner to emerge was the foreman who miners called their rock, the boss who held them together through it all. he says we had spirit, and we wanted to fight for our families [ applause ] >> reporter: and they did. no one has ever been trapped for so long and survived. a rescue capsule brought miners up one by one like clock work. a broken door latch was the only hitch in the 22 1/2 hour operation. the last rescuer out of the hole gave a bow. the youngest miner, 19 years old, was claustrophobic and afraid of the dark. the oldest is 63. he made an underground promise to his wife he'd finally give her the church wedding she'd always wanted. mario dubbed super mario helped

to fairfax county out of prince william county. this is fairly light according to charlie in catlett but approaching warrenton rite now a heavy shower is about to move in between culpeper and madison. you see it moving to the northeast, really picking up in intensity and also down south. that will head up to stafford and fredericksburg and those points. and even woodbridge in a while. in the winchester area, don't want to forget northern virginia. heavy winds in to northern frederick county, it is moving to the northeast. virginia grab the rain gear. what else should they know about their commute? >> a beltway alert for you in virginia. beginning on the inner loop. the report of an accident approaching 123. drivers are backed up to 66. taking about 15 minutes. it should only take five. moving over to 395 from the beltway to seminary looks like a five-minute commute has turned in to a 15 and that's growing. the dulles toll road, we are flying. no major delays past the

as well. 6:48. hello, an you. >> happy thursday, everybody. a traffic alert in virginia on the inner loop. we have an accident near 123. we know that drivers are losing the right lane and they are going to stack up around the 66 exit. a drive that takes five to ten seven minutes is taking manier than ten minutes right now. moving to a wide view of the area. notice, as we zoom in to 66, we have a lot of yellow and red out herement because as you move it outside, we are tracking a lot of tail lights and congestion between 234 and 28 and fairfax county parkway approaching the capital beltway. back to the maps and this time take you to the conditions on 95 northbound. more red and yellow on the map. we can see that everyone is dragging from the prince william parkway up to the mixing bowl. that's a total estimated drive time of 25 to 30 minutes
