up-to-date. >> reporter: the man was only 27 when he died early this morning. >> he was very nice. he was a humble person. lovely, lovely family person. he didn't deserve to die. >> reporter: police this morning seemed conve d that is what happened. >> a beating like this as a result of a property damage, someone has lost their live from a savage beating which appears to be justice ridiculous. >> reporter: so the five men still at the scene were arrested on murder charges. >> they closed the club which offered condolences to his family announced some upcoming concerts would be moved to the rock 'n' roll hotel and said "we very much look forward to our day in court. "even as officers closed the club, they offered a press conference as police sources began indicating new information could lead them to drop or

reduce the murder charges. she abruptly cancelled. the uncertainty haunting the family. >> i want to know why. >> and that was gary nurenberg bringing us up-to-date on that report. well, a virginia jury says a 21-year-old marine abducted and raped a university of maryland grad student, attacked her friend and then tried to get another woman. he was convicted of 14 counts today. the jury recommended five life sentences plus 168 years. torres was arrested back in february after he abducted the 23-year-old woman and raped her. police later linked him to another abduction and a rape. torres was also linked to a double murder in illinois, but he's never been charged in that one. the suspicious death of an 18-year-old man has now been ruled a homicide.

franconia police say he went to a camp on thursday and died less than an hour later. they believe he was involved in a fight that caused major bodily trauma. police are now looking for suspects in the case and they're still waiting for the autopsy results. police in hickory, north carolina now searching the home of a missing 10-year-old girl with cadaver dogs. she was last seen by her step mom saturday morning. investigators hauled away mattresses and box springs from the home. the step mom is charged with obstruction of justice. police say she wrote the fake ransom note found in the home when she was reported missing. there is an alcoholic energy drink that is causing quite a stir on college campuses everywhere. it's called four low co. >> some say the -- loco. >> some say the combination of alcohol and caffeine is causing students to end up in an emergency room. we sent lindsey mastis to college park to see if it's making an impact closer to home. >> reporter: well, derek, i'm on route one which is no

stranger to students and alcohol. the moment we whipped out one of these, students stopped in their tracks. they want to know why we have it out and i was told this is an extremely popular drink. we did the math and found out that drinking one of these is equivalent to drinking nearly five beers. it's 12% alcohol. >> 12? >> reporter: it has 140% more alcohol than a bottle of beer. it even as a nickname. >> liquid cocaine is stuff like that. they say drinking a couple of them is doing a lot of coke. i wouldn't know. >> reporter: students say it's popular because it's cheap. we found it for two and a half bucks at a liquor store. >> it's cheap for college. >> reporter: under age students say they can't seem to pass it up. >> i only drank it a little bit but i got pretty tipsy on a couple sips. >> i blacked out. i don't remember much of the night. >> reporter: but do students think the drink is it dangerous?

>> definitely bad. i wouldn't drink it again. >> if you drink more than one, it's very dangerous. >> reporter: this parents beliefs it is. >> totally dangerous. one can has so much alcohol. >> reporter: others say you can't blame the drink for the drinker's mistake. >> people drink in college and they don't know when to stop and that -- the four logo isn't going to change that. >> reporter: we contacted the distributor and a statement reads in part "an independent panel of scientific and food safety experts examined the effect of caffeine when added to alcoholic beverages. the panel unanimously concluded that combining caffeine and alcohol is safe. we recently submitted the report to the fda for its review. and i asked students how they found out about this four logo, they said they didn't learn about this until they went to college and it seems that the house parties is where this is

most popular. many of the students told me that's where they drink it. they said they haven't seen it in the bars. derek. >> well, lindsey, we've talked about the amount of alcohol. you said 12% or 24 proof. how much caffeine is in that can? >> reporter: well, derek, we know there is caffeine. it says so on the label. it doesn't say how much. i asked the company. they said it's less than what you would get in a 12-ounce cup of coffee. derek. >> all right. a lot of that can. lindsey mastis, thank you. meantime, a popular chain of day care centers is under investigation to fight. last night we told you -- tonight. last night we told you about a man that is charged with sodomizing four and 5-year-old girls at the private day care school in centreville. they issued dozens of violations earlier this week. the 22-year-old ryan murray pleaded gill too he to given two six -- guilty for given two 6-year-old boys candy for a

arm and left leg. >> reporter: it would have been easy for this 29-year-old to shut down and give up. but there was his wife of six years. and now there are two children who love having daddy around. and then there are his fellow soldiers who were in the truck the day of the explosion. >> unfortunately two other guys in the truck with me didn't make it out. the knowledge that i've lost those two guys with me and they weren't able to come home to their families and able to get a second chance. >> reporter: another constant reminder of tht fateful day are the scars. not only from the shrapnel but all of the surgeries. >> i certainly knew that they were more apparent and it just gave folks an extra reason to kind of look. >> reporter: ryan was introduced to dr. sing, a dc area plastic surgeon who volunteers his time for a program called operation iraq

star. he paid nothing. doctor sing helped correct his scars. >> but now while all that internal work has been done, he's left with a visible thick, itchy, irritated scar. and using plastic surgery techniques we're able to excise that area, cut that out, restitch it with fine little sutures to try to help make it better. >> reporter: but there is one scar the retired captain didn't want fixed. one for those buddies who didn't make it home. >> it's kind of my bad jaw or my battle scar. >> again, this free program is available to veterans of iraq and afghanistan who need some extra cosmetic work. >> this guy has been through so much. but i have to ask you, they had the kids after he came back? after he went through all of that? >> this is one of my favorite parts of the story. absolutely. his wife nancy stood by him through this whole process and their deal was this. as soon as she was done pushing a wheelchair when he was up and around and moving around, then they could talk about pushing a stroller. >> wow. and they obviously did more than
