attacks. also happening today the opening arguments are set to begin in the trial of the chandra levy murder trial. >> after weeks of interviews the panel is set. 12 women and four men make up the jury. there are four alternates. ingmar guandique is charged with attempted sexual assault and murder of levy back in 2001. and that washington intern's disappearance made headlines when she was romantically linked to gary condit. condit says he expects to be called to testify in the trial. we now know the names of the men suspected of operating a drug lab in a dorm at georgetown university. police say charles smith and john romano, both georgetown university students and a guest have been charged with manufacturing a controlled substance. the three will be arraigned later this morning. police and emergency crews responded to the freshman dorm on saturday after a strange

odor was reported. about 400 students were evacuated. one man is dead and dozens of families need a place to stay this morning after a fire ripped through an apartment complex in prince georges county this weekend. the carriage hill apartments went up in flames on saturday. they found a 27-year-old man dead in an apartment where they think the whole thing started. three residents and three firefighters were take on the the hospital with minor injuries. eight days to go until marylanders decide who will sit in the governor's seat the next four years. >> both candidates are really campaigning down to the wire now, especially after the latest poll results. >> reporter: maryland governor o'malley was doing retail politicking throughout the state on sunday, including in chevy chase. the governor is discounting the latest polls showing he has a 14 point lead. >> none of the polls matter right now. what matters is whether or not the citizens of the state go out and vote were with nine

morning morning. wall street is waiting for the latest update on the housing industry. reports on due on home sales and home prices. corporate profit reports this week and have been better than expected. researchers say 83% have beat analysts forecasts. on friday the upbeat reports were not enough to help the stock market. the dow closed down 14. the nasdaq gained 20. chipolte was a big winner. the stock jumped 15% after the chain released a glowing profit report. earnings were up 40% in the last quarter as they expanded to over 1,000 restaurants. and gold finally snapped the winning streak. the precious metal dropped more than 3% last week to $13,025 an ounce. the retreat came after prices climbed to record highs for five straight weeks.

flying to detroit or chicago should be hardly any problems there with partly to mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s. the big picture, yes, a tornado watch at this hour in alabama until 9:00 this morning. you see the heavy rains coming from the deep south through tennessee, kentucky. all moving up to the north and the east. that's going to increase the available moisture. and that will also increase our rain chances and the nice weather from yesterday pulling away from the region at this hour. the warm front up here. that's why we are so mild and the southerly and southwesterly breezes continue to funnel in all of that gulf moisture. put it in motion for you and you see waves of moisture the next couple of days. the next big weather maker is this cold front. it will be pushing through on benz. looks like wednesday morning. with it showers and storms. once this passes on wednesday, this will end the threat for showers and storms, which will be off and on over the next couple of days. and then the cooler weather

come to an end in the district. >> yes. those parking restrictions will be lifted after this friday. that means motorists can park along posted alternate side say daytime street sweeping routes without moving cars on cleaning days. >> overnight sweeping on the district major roadways including pennsylvania, georgia, constitution and independence avenue will take place as usual as long as weather permits. first an earthquake and now this, the growing concern of the cholera outbreak in haiti. health officials and aide workers are worried it could spread to the camps for earthquake survivors in the capital port-au-prince. the disease has already killed 250 people in rural areas and sickened more than 3,000. doctors, attending to cholera patients in the countryside, say the steady stream of sick has not let up. a woman, who was waiting for a liver transplant at georgetown hospital never got the chance because the hospital apparently couldn't reach her. even though the woman was a patient at georgetown at the time.

>> this is all according to her sister. the woman died a few weeks after not getting the transplant. no one knows if a new live would have saved her life, but as peggy fox reports the woman's sister filed a lawsuit hoping it forces changes. >> this is one year from the day she died. >> reporter: dorothy's sister died two years ago on thanksgiving day. she was 59. she had nonalcoholic sir row situation of the liver and had been on the transplant list at georgetown university hospital. >> she was desperate for a liver. >> reporter: in november of 2008, a liver match was apparently found and a georgetown employee tried to reach donna at home, twice. >> hi this is martha calling from georgetown transplant. i'm calling to offer you a liver, a liver offer. >> reporter: that would have been great news, except donna didn't get it because she was a patient at georgetown at the time. and dorothy found the messages

on her sister's answering machine too late. >> i returned martha's call and she said, oh, no, someone else got the liver. >> reporter: dorothy said she spent every night at the hospital with her sister. >> it's just unreal. she had been seen by a dozen doctors at georgetown, the transplant team, dr. sheddy, dr. lauren, everyone knew she was at georgetown. how did this happen that they called her at home? >> reporter: did georgetown have your number? >> i was her emergency point of contact. they had my home number and my cell number. >> reporter: they didn't call you? >> they did not. >> reporter: georgetown university hospital declined to comment on the case because it is in litigation. i called the number left on the answering machine and confirmed it goes to the on call coordinator for the georgetown transplant institute. >> reporter: dorothy hopes that someone who needs a liver more than her sister got it but says she is filing the lawsuit because she wants answers.

was an old friend. he also left out his own wife and hers invested money in the same missouri fuel plants. congressman waters argues that is the same thing she's accused of, helping a good friend and a company where her spouse has stock. when it comes to ethics, congress largely polices itself. it has two separate ethics bodies but turns out they always almost always disagree. too often critics said they made excuses for colleagues rather than holding them accountable. to fix it in 2007, they created an independent office of congressional ethics. the independent office investigates cases and refers them to the house ethics committee which decides whether to bring charges but critics say some members of congress, all of whom deny wrongdoing are getting a free pass. take the case of john carter.
