okay as we enter the 6:00 hour. we do want to take a closer look at the outer loop. a little bit of volume is starting to build. we will move it outside and we are tracking the head lights. a good amount of congestion from 95 to 270. overall drive time of ten minutes. going to our travel times, we look at the inner loop in virginia. nice, clean and green, 18 minutes from 395 to the toll road. eastbound on the toll road from 674 to the beltway only six. and dc 295 to the 11th street bridge ten minutes. back to you. looking a the stories happening today, the three georgetown university students are expected to be arraigned today on drug charges. police say charles smith and john romano, both georgetown university student and john perrone, a guest has been charged with manufacturing a

controlled substance. police and emergency crews responded to the dorm yesterday after a strange odor was reported. about 400 students were evacuated. president obama will hit the campaign trail. this time in rhode island. he took sunday off to rest a little bit after a four day swing through the west and midwest. and with mid-term elections a week away the president is focusing much on states where democratic candidates need some help. opening statements will begin in morning in the chandra levy murder trial. it has been nine years since she was killed while jogging in rock creek park. now ingmar guandique, an illegal immigrant from el salvador will stand trial for her murder. >> it has taken almost a decade of police work, followed by a week of jury selection to get to where we are this morning which is four hours away from the start of levy's murder

trial. opening statements are expected at 10:00 this morning. if you look at this video you will see the man at the center of it all. ingmar guandique, an illegal immigrant and alleged ms-13 gang member from el salvador who is in prison for attacking two other women in rock creek park. now he is standing trial for kidnapping, raping, robbing and murdering levy back in may of 2001. now, there is no dna evidence in this case, nor are there any eyewitnesses. so the prosecution is expected to build its case on statements that ingmar guandique allegedly made to other inmates while he was in prison. ingmar guandique denies he ever committed the crime. he will be judge bade jury of 12 women and four men including nine whites, six blacks and one asian but no latinos despite the defense argued the fact he would not get a fair trial without them. some hoff the questions asked during the selection is that they may try to blame condit

for the murder. he had been a prime suspect in the murder after he admitted to having an affair with the 24- year-old intern. a spokesman for condit said he does expect to testify at some point in this trial. now, this trial is expected to last for several weeks, possibly even more than a month. it will be an extensive, long trial and again if the defendant is indeed convicted he will likely face life in prison. andrea, mike? >> thank you for the update. now looking at the news that happened while you slept. a bomb planted on a motorcycle kills five people and wounds more than a dozen in central pakistan. >> that explosion happened at the get of a famous shrine during morning prayers today. this is the lathe nest a string of attacks targeting the shrines. they toe fen target them because they disagree with their interpretation of islam. cleanup efforts begin this morning after a tornado ripped through a texas town.

and we're clean and green on the inner loop in virginia from 395 to the dulles toll road. coming up we will have a live look at the district roads. now, back to you. opening statements will begin in a few hours in the chandra levy murder trial. has been nine yearens since she was killed while jogging in rock creek park. >> now ingmar guandique will be standing trial for her murder. kristin fisher is live from dc superior court. she has the latest on the proceedings. >> reporter: good morning, mike. this is a case that not only transfixed washington unions but also the entire nation. and now, almost ten years after chandra levy's murder, opening statements in her alleged killer's trial are set to start in just under four hours right here at dc superior court at 10:00 this morning. now, the man at the center of it all is 29-year-old ingmar guandique. he is an illegal immigrant from

el salvador and an alleged ms- 13 gang member. he's accused of kidnapping, raping and robbing the 28-year- old captiol hill intern while she was jogging in rock creek park in may of 2001. but her body wasn't found until a year later. there's no dna evidence, no murder weapon and no eyewitnesses. that will be tough for the prosecution. now ingmar guandique says he is not guilty in this case but he is already in prison for attacking two orwomen in rock creek park. anthers where the bulk of the case will come from. jailhouse informants. prosecutors say that ingmar guandique admitted to former cell mates that he did kill levy. the testimony of the cell mates will be a key part of the prosecution's case. another person who could possibly take the stand is none orthan former california congressman gary condit. he had been the prime suspect in the murder after he admitted to having an affair with levy. now, if the former congressman does indeed take the witness

some are coming out this morning. this week, reports are due on home sales and home prices. corporate profit reports continue this week as well and so far has been better than expected. in fact researcher says 83% of the corporations have beat the analysts forecasts so far. on friday, though, those upbeat reports were not enough to help the stock market. the dow closed down 14 and the nasdaq gained 24. chipolte was a winner on wall street on friday. the stock jumped 15%, that's lot after the mexican grill chain released a glowing profit report. earnings up 40% as they expanded to over 1,000 restaurants now. gold finally snapped the winning streak. the precious methoddal dropped 8% last week to $1,325 an ounce. the retreat came after prices had climbed to record highs for five straight weeks. the french parliament takes a final vote on the spending crackdown that has enraged the

this morning we have mild temperatures for october. we have dry conditions out there. so i think that's a good way to start the week. however, i'm going to tell you now, grab the rain gear because we have a chance of a few showers later a this afternoon. the momslikeme.com bus stop forecast, partly to mostly cloudy. though we are still waiting on some of those clouds in northwest. when i was on the weather terrace a few moments ago, still have stars and moon out there. 48 to 63. big range, i know that but those areas that are protected are in the 40s. the winds are light and where the winds are up some 60s. sun is up at 7:28. the sunsets 6:15. right now we are looking at temperatures which are in the lower 60s. mid-40s here and we will see a midday temperature of 70 with some clouds and a late- afternoon temperature of the low 70s and by 5:00 a better chance of showers and some thunderstorms. locally 59 in arlington.

an they gathered for the first ever gala at national harbor, saving hearts for generations was the theme. >> 6 million people -- [ inaudible ] >> reporter: local businesswoman sheila johnson was honorary chair. >> we have to be able to build in exercise, whether it means carrying the groceries up three flights of stairs we can park further away. we can decide to bike to work. >> reporter: an estimated 1 million people will have heart attacks this year, half of them will die and the prognosis for african-americans is even more grim. the goal of these doctors is to eliminate the cardiovascular despairty through education, research and advocacy. >> i suffered from hypertension for the last 30 years. >> reporter: retired general colin lou powell an award recipient along with his wife was there to help to lead the charge. he is especially concerned about the country's obese young people. >> if you go to a high school

or college gray graduation now and colleges and universities you see so many young people coming across the stage who have overweight problems. >> when we started our journey. >> reporter: i was emcee for the gala and i shared a story about my heart attack and recovery years ago and the book heart to heart that resulted from that experience and those of 18 other survivors. >> i had a stroke when i was 47. >> claire is another survivor. she was honored at the gala for her work with poor, at risk minority women at charlotte, north carolina. >> diabetes and hypertension gets them first and then the heart disease comes. >> reporter: bruce johnson, 9 news now. >> first lady michelle obama and her mother were also honored for their work in trying to get americans more fit. mrs. obama couldn't be at national harbor. she was out campaigning for the midterm elections and i'm happy to have served on the abc gala committee a wonderful first event. congratulations and bruce did a great job. our time is 6:49.

. welcome back. we have a chance of a couple of showers and even thunderstorms in the afternoon. temperatures falling in the low 70s. mike and andrea? >> thank you. in the news now, hundreds of tourists are home this morning after stranded in the mountains of india after a really heavy snowfall there. the roads were blocked from the sudden storm on friday. as many as 2,000 tourists had to be trapped in the mountain region. most of them were rescued over the weekend. a cholera epidemic in haiti may be stabilizing after killing 250 people and causing 3,000 more to get sick. government officials are reporting fewer death and fewer new cases over the last 24 hours. the doctor attenning to cholera patients in the countryside say the steady stream of sick people has not let up. a massive fire that destroyed three downtown buildings in southern illinois is now being called suspicious pishes.
