the roadblocks were unconstitutional. police says this doesn't fit that mo. the two people who were shot here, young individuals, males who attended the high school, they were good kids according to police. >> he was a sweet loving, caring. >> reporter: 17-year-old joseph sharps is dead. his friend de'onte bill broad wounded. they were shot last night. >> they shot his friend first and then joe was calling the police on his cell phone and i guess they shot him, they shot him four times. >> reporter: joseph sharps' mother says the family moved to the trinidad area a short time ago. >> it's pen a lot of stuff, you know, with the young men around. >> reporter: grief counselors were dispatched to spin garn senior high school today. >> they played jokes, they liked girls, never heard about them having any beef with anybody. >> reporter: i talked to spin

they do tell us they are working this case hard. if this develops into something else we will bring you back here live. >> thank you. prince george's county police searching for a murder suspect in heightsville. officers responded to the chesapeake landing apartments on buchanan street after someone reported hearing gunshots. when the police arrived, they found the victim dead outside. that person's identity hasn't been released as of yet and we have no word on a motive or possible suspect. tonight american university faculty, staff and students will remember the life and work of murdered professor sue marcum. the university is hosting a memory essential marry for -- ceremony for her at 8:00. she taught in the school of business much she was killed in her bethesda home two weeks ago. so far police have not charged anyone if her murder. the man accused of trying to help al-qaeda bomb metro stations says he's not guilty. that was farooque ahmed's plea at his arraignment today.

the 34-year-old pakistani born u.s. citizen was arrested last month. federal officials say ahmed plotted with people he thought were al-qaeda members who bomb several metro stations but those people were actually undercover agents. ahmed has requested a jury trial and it's scheduled to begin in april. a bit of a scare this morning for an air canada flight that took off from reagan national. a malfunctioning ventilation system caused the plane to have to come back to the airport. fire crews met the jet on the runway had it landed just in case. passengers and crew all got off okay. the incident did not interrupt other operations at the airport. the race is finally over in the 11th congressional district. today keith fimian conceded defeat. connolly won by only 981 votes, but as peggy fox reports, after the race the congressman found himself in the hospital. >> i had some blockage in an artery. there was a blood clot that caused a little discomfort.

>> reporter: congressman jerry connolly spent last weekend in the hospital after a routine test found a blood clot. he told reporters he's fine and wanted to focus on his win, not on the slim margin. >> there were four competitive races in virginia, only one was left standing and you're looking at him. >> reporter: he called the election the most toxic for democrats in 64 years. >> i frankly reject the question why is it so narrow. i think you ought to be 1k-g how did you pull -- asking how did you pull it off given the horrors all over the country. >> reporter: he says it was his 16 years in public office and a lot of hard work, but tom davis a republican who held the seat before him says money helped save him. >> the democratic campaign committee spent $1 million the last week and dropped it in and the republican committee wouldn't match that. >> reporter: he also says fin fimian lost votes. here's at fimian's campaign it was locked up and quiet. he says he was not asking for a

recount because he didn't think it would change the results however he was leaving open the option to revisit that decision. connolly says it's too early to talk about redirecting the 11th to favor republicans but davis says it's a strong bet. >> two years from now it will be a different district. the legislature will redrawn the lines to this district and in northern virginia how about you draw the lines? >> congressman connolly say he heard voters loud and clear that they were not satisfied with the way things are doing, they want the economic problems solved but don't want to do it by having red ink. he says he would not vote to repeal health care but would look at making changes to it. >> thank you. liquor will now be sold on sundays in montgomery county maryland. the county executive issued an executive order to allow sunday sales at county owned liquor sales. that means you'll be able to buy hard liquor on sundays by the end of the month.

montgomery county will make up to $2 million a year by opening on sunday. a head-on collision in the colesville area of silver spring sent three people to the hospital including one child. sky 9 was over the crash scene on norwood road late this morning. three cars were involved in that crash. one of the victim's injuries was life-threatening. no word yet on what caused that crash. will the future metro station at dulles airport ruin the view? the virginia department of historic resources says yes. it believes the planned aboveground silver lined station will block vistas of the historic dulles main terminal. the euro sharon designed facility has been called one of the best pieces of architecture of the 20th century. original plans for an underground station were scrapped to save money. we have got a commuter alerted for you. if you drive on i270, you can expect delays on the northbound side of the highway as you approach interstate 370. crews will be installing those big green signs as part of the icc project.

and deputy secretary of defense says with president obama in asia, this could have been a show of our military muscle. >> it could be a test firing of an intercontinental ballistic missile from a submarine to demonstrate mainly to asia that we can do that. >> navy and air force officials have said the minneapolis is not theirs and -- missile is not there and neither had launches near that area and today the faa told nbc it did not approve any commercial launches around l.a. at the time. the pentagon is still investigating. president obama's second stop on his trip through asia was also a return home. he visited indonesia, a place where he lived as a child. joel brown joins us now live from the white house with more on how the president is working toward building a better relationship with that muslim nation. joel. >> reporter: this was the long awaited trip that has been on and off of president obama's schedule twice already. this morning he finally arrived

but he can't stay long. he's the american president, but for indonesia, this was a homecoming. >> i am proud and humbled to accept this award on behalf of my mother. >> reporter: president obama was awarded an indonesia metal of honor for his latest mother. she moved here in the '60s with a then 6-year-old future president. since those four years here, dramatic change. indonesia's boomed into the largest economy in southeast asia and obama returns as the leader of the free world. >> much has been made of the fact that this marks my return to where i lived as a young boy. i will tell you, though, that i barely recognized it. >> reporter: the president didn't spend much time reminiscing. instead, he's focusing on the future. he wants to boost trade with indonesia and build better relations with the muslim world. more muslims live in indonesia than any other country on the globe. he ended remarks at a news

conference with the common muslim greeting. but outside antiu.s. demonstrators sounded off against what they see as america's ongoing wars against islam. this visit to indonesia has seemed star crossed, a cloud of ash from a volcano is drifting toward the capitol, forcing the white house to cut the trip short. the president has cancelled the visit twice before, needed in washington for the health care debate then the gulf oil spill. this time he made it and he's promising to come back soon. and the president said next be time he'd like to bring his daughters along to retrace his past in indonesia. he may get to deliver on that promise. he's due back there a year from now for the east asia summit. aaneat -- anita. >> where does the president head next? >> reporter: south korea. he'll sit down there with the president tomorrow and also the

g-20 summit over the weekend. he wants to hammer out the final details in a free trade agreement hoping to boost jobs here at home. >> thanks for that. efforts are underway to rescue a stranded cruise ship off the coast of baja, california. the 952-foot carnival splendor lost power monday after a fire in the engine room. the ship was on a seven day cruise to the mexican rivera. the u.s. coast guard and the uss ronald reagan aircraft carrier are trying to assist the vessel. they are also bringing supplies for passengers and crew. >> as of now the cruise ship is still disabled, dead in the water. the passengers are being monitored closely. they are in good care and doing very well considering the circumstances. there are coast guard assets on scene. >> the coast guard expects it will be wednesday night at the earliest before that cruise ship is towed into the mexican port of encinta. >> a lot of people stuck out there. >> a lot of people.

the police and fire department saluted chris barger. he pulled a person from a hummer that erupted into flames following an accident this summer. >> at that point chris realized someone was inside so he started running toward the vehicle. chris grabbed the door handle and pulled it so hard the handle flew off but thankfully the door also flew open. >> love that. today's ceremony took place in front of chris burger's senior classmates at battlefield high in high market. arlington police are cracking down on drivers who don't yield the right of way to pedestrians. >> they were out in force today issuing tickets to drivers. people walking, even people on bikes caught violating basic traffic laws. police were all across roslyn

19th. liz bet elizabeth smart returned to the witness stand. she told jurors a police officer tried to look behind her veil at a library table one day but he backed down when brian mitchell told him smart's face was covered for religious reasons. mitchell's face is -- mitchell is facing kidnapping and abduction in this case. smart was found with mitchell nine months after she was taken from her home. cia officers who destroyed dozens of videotapes featuring harsh interrogation of terror suspects will not face charges. the cia destroyed its tapes of two al-qaeda operatives being waterboarded in 2005. the justice department is still investigation whether interrogators went beyond the legal guidance that he got on -- they got on how roughly to treat these suspects. former president george w. bush's book went on sale and in it he takes responsibility for waterboarding terror suspects that he says saved british
