all over the world on the latest move the united states is to give slumping economies a much-needed shot in the arm. >> as joel brown reports it could be a tough sell. >> reporter: president obama arrived in south korea on the defensive. he'll have to explain the federal reserve's decision to pump $600 billion in to the u.s. economy. the fed's goal is to drive down interest rates, jump start lending and shore up the sagging economy, but the move will also weaken the dollar. making american goods cheaper. some world leaders say that gives the u.s. an unfair advantage. the debate is sure to take center stage when the g-20 economic summit kicks off tomorrow in seoul. security there is tight, as leaders from the 20 countries with the world's biggest economy arrive for the two-day meeting. the president already sent the leaders a letter laying our his position. he wrote a strong u.s. economy helps everyone grow. the tough negotiations in south korea come after a warm welcome

outraged over rising tuition fees. thousands are two test atlantic outside of a government building. police are having a tough time quelling the violence. they are using tear gas in hopes of breaking up the crowd. sky 9 over the scene of a huge fire. prince georges county fire crews are still there. it broke out in the 8200 block of inoio court. the home appears to be a total loss. for thely no one was home at the -- fortunately no one was home at the time. sky 9 over the three-car crash in columbia, maryland. four people are in the hospital. this morning the vehicles collided. three people are in critical condition. a fourth victim's injuries are not as severe. investigators are on the scene trying to figure out what happened and to clean up the mess. the morning commute turned in to a trip to the hospital for several people aboard this metro bus. six adults and a child are

being checked out now. officials say the bus driver had to slam on the brakes to avoid a collision along good hope road in southeast dc. fortunately none of the injuries were serious. a former frostburg state university student charged with murder is expected to be sentenced later today. 21-year-old tyrone hall pleaded guilty last month to killing university basketball player an wounding another at his off- campus apartment last april. he said he fired a shotgun in self defense. carroll was killed and hall is facing up to eight years in prison. the trial of ingmar guandique resumed after six-day hiatus. a forensic examiner testified that dna of gary condit was

found in levy's underwear. the prosecution is wrap up the case this week. hundreds pay their respects to american university professor sue ann marcum at a memorial service on campus. as those who knew her mourn the loss police are looking to find the killer. 9 news now spoke to some of the people that sue ann marcum's life touched last night at bender arena. >> she was the faculty member that people wanted her to write their letters of recommendation for graduate school and they were introduced -- they were excited to introduce their parents to sue ann marcum. >> a man caught driving her suv has been arrested but not charged yet with her murder. the county could revehicle the thirsty turtle's license. it is acaused of admitting urn

aged customers there. virginia has the second lowest cigarette tax in the nation, only behind missouri. alexandria wants state lawmakers to hike the tax. richard merit with the city health commission says it is more than revenue they are concerned about. >> based on research from other states, that one of the most effective strategies to reducing cigarette smoking and therefore second-hand smoke in the community is really by increasing the overall price of cigarettes. >> reporter: now, alexandria leaders also leave the $1 per pack tax hike would bring in another $319 million for the commonwealth. cheers from montgomery county officials. just in time for the holidays now you can purchase liquor and wine on sundays at the 28 county owned stores. beginning november 21st, stores will be open from noon to 6:00 on sunday during the six-month

trial period. they will keep an eye on cost, revenue and how it affects privately owned liquor stores. pedestrians have the right of way and they are cracking down on drives who don't yield to them. but it is not just motorists. officers are also issuing tickets to pedestrians and cyclists caught violating traffic laws. police were stationed at several rosslyn intersections on tuesday including wilson boulevard and north lynn street. they handed out 33 citations to drivers and gave 50 warnings to pedestrians and cyclists. to philadelphia now where surveillance camera captured thieves making a run for it after what bank heist. the trail of red smoke is one of the dye packs exploding. it stained the street, money and probably the thieves hair, clothing and hands. they released the video in hopes that it will help them to

a cbs photographer shot what looks like a missile blasting off on sunday. aviation and u.s. officials won't say what the object was but they will say it wasn't theirs. they say it is investigating but believes it is not a threat though united states. >> basically a large plume at the horizon and it grew and got thinner and spiraling in nature and as i zoomed in to the point of it, you can see what appeared to be whatever it was spinning in a trajectory like a football or bullet. >> they say they do not think it was a military missile. they believe it might have been and plane or amateur rocket. it has been a vacation to forget for 3,000 passengers stranded on a carnival cruise lineship off of the coast of mexico. >> right now the splendor is being towed back to san diego after drifting at sea for two days. >> as candace gibson reports it could be a few more days before

they reach land. >> reporter: carnival splendor is on the move. barely. it is not expected to reach san diego before late thursday. >> it is a slow process getting back to port. >> reporter: it lost power on monday when a fire broke out in he engine room. the blaze was contained and no injuries but the cruiseship was left dead in the water. 8500 passengers and crew had no air conditioning, no hot water and no internet. they did have working it toes and cold water due to the backup power of the ship but with no refrigeration, the ship began to quickly run low on food. helicopters from the aircraft carrier, uss ronald reagan began to deliver 10,000-pounds of supplies on tuesday but instead of the lavish spread that are a highlight of any cruise, passengers are dining on spam. in a statement carnival said, conditions on board the ship are very challenging and we

soccer club. he wakes up one morning to find 50 bucks on the deck and looked around and realized his dog got in to the fund-raising cash. cosmo ate all of the checks and he apparently hid cash for a rainy day, too. >> i saw a spot where cosmo had dug. i started to dig here and i barely got below the surface and got a lot of bills and dirt. >> see cost mow chewing there. apparently still at work. some leftover bills were laying an. cost mow's owner says he will replace the cash out of his pocket. did you know this week is farm to school week in virginia? it is an every across the commonwealth to get locally grown food in to schools and colleges. the move helps farmers across virginia. many are struggling during the economic times. while it helps farmers it also helps youngsters. they are promoting healthy

across the bay but generally mostly sunny and gorgeous. 60 in town. 59 cambridge. annapolis a little cooler, thanks to the bay at 56. low 60s culpeper and orange. luray 63. petersburg 64 an then the shenandoah valley mid to upper 50s and for this time of the year, this is where we should be for highs. we will get a little above that. sunny and 60. light north wind at five miles an hour and the humidity is 55%. it is fantastic out there. one thing when we look at national temperatures is now highs it is in the eastern -- how nice it is in the eastern half of the country. the warmth is wants to move in our direction and behind the storm system it is cold, casper 27. denver 33. all sorts of snow in the the rockies and higher elevations. from nevada and the northwestern part of thetas the rockies, much of nevada actually in a winter weather advisory with the mountains to the west. for us we have a storm out west and we should have a nice ridge
