to sell a book on pedophilia. >> molesting a child is terrorism. it is pure domestic terrorism. this is 9news now. . but first, we begin with breaking news out of arlington. right now crews are working a tour bus fire on 395. >> andrea mccarren just got there minutes ago right after the fire started. she is live on the scene. andrea, a lot of activity behind you. >> reporter: a tremendous amount of activity. in fact, we are just on the virginia line where just a few minutes ago there was so much smoke when we arrived it completely obscured all of the street signs. here is a rundown of what happened before that bus burst into flames. it was carrying a couple dozen vietnam veterans, all of whom were here for their 40th
1:39 am
anniversary reunion. they are all members of the 199th light infantry brigade. they had just had dinner as part of the reunion in alexandria. a tour bus picked them up, brought them over to this area. that's when passengers on board noticed smoke at the back of the bus. >> some guy in the back seat, vietnam vet, of course, he says the bus is on fire in the back. and everything needs to get out. the bus has to stop. everybody has to get out. >> we stopped the bus immediately here and then everybody evacuated from the bus. as we got off the bus, the flames started shooting out of the back of the bus. >> a lot of quick thinking. being a vietnam vet on veteran's day, he saved like 40 other people. it's incredible. >> reporter: incredible indeed. here we are l ive at the scene near the pentagon right by the exit for reagan national
1:40 am
airport. traffic almost at a standstill. several lanes still feeding into this area. it is just crawling past the scene of the singed tour bus carrying about 40 vietnam veterans all here for their 40th reunion on this veteran's day. very quick thinking of one of those vietnam vets saved the lives and the safety no one was even injured. quite a fitting tribute for this veteran's day. reporting live from the 14th street bridge, andrea mccarren, the news now. >> amazing story. meantime, who are these guys and what are they doing? that is what metro wants to know men who were taping passengers and metro operations on the orange line. >> it has issued a rare be on the lookout notice for the two men. now, metro wanted that alert to be secret but now it's been leaked and gary nurenberg is here for the latest on the search. >> reporter: this unusual be on the look outcomes at a time with
1:41 am
increased terrorist activity around the world and less than a month after the fbi arrested a northern virginia man for casing metro for a possible attack. >> the picture of the two men was taken by a metro rider who saw them acting suspiciously. who are they and what were they doing. >> reporter: they says the subject were observed at the metro station orange line platform videotaping features of the station and operations of the train. they videotaped how patrons oriented themselves within the metrorail car. they were attempting to videotape inconspicuously by holding the camera at the side. >> there is a very high risk right now. >> reporter: the metro mystery comes days after disguised bombs were discovered in cargo bound for the united states. they released a tape urging individual terrorist acts. >> don't consult with anybody in killing the americans.
1:42 am
fighting the devil doesn't require consultation or prayer seeking devine guidance. >> we're very concerned about someone, if you will, listening to these kinds of exhortations and then deciding to go out and do something that is going to kill or injure americans right here in washington. >> reporter: the metro sighting of these two men come only two weeks after they arrested a northern virginia man in a sting that had him videotaping metro for an attack on the system. peter benjamin told 9news now there is no indication of a specific threat. that metro issued the picture "just to be cautious "and that it was not intended to be released publicly. but the question remains who are they and what were they doing? metro emphasizes the two men are accused of no crime and no wrongdoing. but if you know who they are, authorities would like to know too. would like to know, as we said, who they are and what they were doing. >> i've never heard of be on a
1:43 am
look out order like this. is this unusual for metro or do we just never hear about them? >> reporter: good question, derek. we asked that question of the metro board chairman. he says it's the first time he can remember in his experience that this kind of memo was issued. but the ceo says one reason they may not issue these very often is because unlike new york and london they don't have the extensive surveillance that would alert them to possible problems. >> gary nurenberg, thank you, sir. scary stuff. a pro pedophilia book is no longer being sold on amazon after a public outroar. >> but the roar still hasn't died down. tonight only on 9 we'll hear from a child abuse survivor and that book's author. our own brittany morehouse asked the question is this really all about free speech? >> my perpetrator used a friendship hur. >> reporter: it's a label he does not shy away from. >> because of having been victimized as a child, i have
1:44 am
great insight that enables me to better protect my children. >> reporter: and with photos of those children at arm's length, he scans through amazon.com to confirm the website no longer sells the book titled the pedophiles guide. >> let's not honor them for selling the book. he is wrong for selling it in the first place. >> reporter: that is what he takes personally. after making national headlines in 2002 with his story. >> i was sexually abused between 9 and 16. it's terrorism. taking an innocent mind and traumatizing it to a degree that most people can't really understand. the word pedophile itself means somebody that loves children. >> reporter: that is the author of the book pulled from amazon. his words were first defended by the company, calling it censorship not to sell certain titles because we believe the message is objectionable. thousands of outcries later and suddenly the $5 book was selling
1:45 am
big. >> that tells me that controversy sells book. >> reporter: on that point, he agrees. >> they want to sell books. >> everybody is having knee jerk reactions to the title. >> reporter: but is that title protected? >> this guy in instructs perpetrators to put pen ups of children's on the wall. make sure they're clothed. it instructs how to use condom on children. if someone committed a terrorist act that killed 3,000 people in one day, would we tolerate that for sale online under a first amendment argument? i don't think so. >> reporter: so far, amazon has said very little after pulling the book off its website. but some users have piped up siting the first amendment. they say child pornography laws prohibit pictures but so far words are protected. >> brittany, thank you. a maryland woman is claiming her life with flesh eating
1:46 am
bacteria. some of the images of what she went through are graphic. a flesh eating disorder is rare. but once it takes hold, usually through an open wound, the bacteria release toxins that devour and destroy tissue. sandy had a c section back in 2005 and ended up spending years in baltimore shock trauma center where surgeons tried to stop the bacteria spread through her belly. >> there was this yellow waxy saran wrap stuff over my abdomen and i remember very clearly seeing what looked like french fries or chicken underneath it. and what it was actually was my internal organs. and i could see my intes continues. >> in the end -- intestines. >> in the end, she needed a bowel transplant which was performed here in dc. she is finally on the mend and able to care for her little boy christopher who is now five.
1:47 am
>> goodness. that just sounds awful. now, is this just one sort of bacteria. >> it used to be. but now there is also a new sub family of superbugs. the staff family known as mrsa. they're resistant to antibiotics and this is rare. most of the time they're around us and they don't really do anything at all. however, if one of these gets in through an open wound and starts the process, it can be devastating. >> obviously. thank you very much, anita ta. the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, world war i came to an end. 92 years later, we pause to remember the military members who served and are still serving today. at arlington national cemetery joe biden laid a wreath on the tomb of the unknown. the first lady made a trip to germany. and in south korea, president obama joined several members honoring korean war vets. >> now, on this day, we honor

every man and woman who have ever worn the uniform of the united states of america. we salute fallen heroes. and keeping our prayers for those that are still in harm's way. like the men and women serving in iraq and afghanistan. >> and we want to thank you for helping us raise money for the uso of metropolitan holiday food basket program. because of your generosity, we were able to raise $26,323 all during our phone bank. that money along with a $15,000 matching contribution from qwest software means 832 families in our area will get to enjoy a turkey dinner with all of the triples thanksgiving day. -- trimmingses thanksgiving day. there is still time to donate. click on the uso banner. all those donations go to active duty personnel in the washington

area. every president says putting troops in harm's way is the toughest decision he has to make. as we hear from derek in tonight's lets be real, it ought to be. >> well, anita, some time ago on my way to the movies i saw a jeep with three very young men pull into a nearby handicap parking lot. what the heck until i saw there was a marine corps license tag and the fact that two of those men walked into the theater on shiny artificial limbs. i felt humbled and intimately aware of what these young guys had given up for their country. i hadn't thought much about those men recently until i heard matt lawyers interview with president bush this monday. he asked if he would have invaded iraq and they said the world is better off without saddam. that was the wrong question. on the day we honor our veterans and i think about those thousands upon thousands of young men and women who so

willingly sacrifice so very much, what i want to ask the former president is was it worth it? was it worth it? misdiagnosis can get a child labeled with a learning disorder. a health alert on what may really be wrong. that is coming up. topper. >> well, it's 63 today. but it is cooling off now. here is your wakeup weather. you're going to need a coat and sunglasses. 42 to start which means 30 in the burbs. 49 by 9:00. we'll come back take you all the way through friday and stay awake. you might want ñúñú

we return to breaking news out of arlington from the top of our show where crews are working a tour bus fire on 395 right near the 14th street bridge. a major fire. >> andrea mccarren is live now with a traffic update. i know the fire is out but the traffic is worse and worse, huh? >> reporter: the traffic is going along at a crawl.

but what a memorable 40th reunion for the members of the 119th infantry brigade. all vietnam veterans, about three dozen on board on a tour bus that started showing smoke at the back of the bus. one quit thinking vietnam vet new to evacuate the bus told the bus driver to pull over. everyone got off safely and remarkably just at that moment right near the pentagon that tour bus burst into flames. some quick thinking led everyone to safety. we're on 395 south just off the 14th street bridge. again, near the exit for the pentagon. and reagan national airport. traffic moving along slowly. a tow truck has just come to pull away the singed tour bus but everyone is okay. all of those vietnam veterans will have a memorable 40th reunion experience here in dc. back to you.

>> thanks, andrea. a fidgety easily distracted kid can get labeled with attention deficit disorder. but how attention problems can be the real reason some kids can't pay attention. >> i was tested for a learning disact and it came up adhd. >> and years later he thought he was still dealing with attention deficit problems when during the first semester of college he couldn't sit still to read longer than 15-minute at a time. >> i signed up for about four classes and i ended up dropping about all of them, i think. >> after being tested for a learning disability, he was sent to doctor amanda zeler, a developmental ophthalmologist. she says mental focus wasn't his problem, it was his eyes. something called convergence insufficiency disorder. >> so it's a problem where the two eyes don't properly align. so when a person is trying to

read, work on the computer, their eyes don't come together to look at the object easily. >> symptoms include eye strain, headaches, double vision, squinting, covering one eye to read and an inability to concentrate. >> i can see normal. but then it would start to blur and i would see like two of the words. there would be like mush. >> and the only relief is to consistently look away, leading some to think they aren't paying attention or could have add. >> they really can't. it's not that they have a brain disorder that prevents them from doing it but it's an eye coordination issue that is preventing them from paying visual attention to the task. >> the doctor says the disorder is curable with special vision therapy. he is proof it's true. >> i noticed my first exam i got a b compared to the c, and ds
