authoritys in china started releasing more information about a deadly apartment fire in shanghai. the death toll now up to 53. more than 70 people are hospitalized. some residents say they escaped by climbing down construction scaffolding outside the building. at this point investigators think a weldser may have started the fire accidentally. they warned this type of fire could happen again because of the rapid growth in the city and all of the construction. an accused russian arms dealer is on his way to the united states now. the government approved his ex extradition a few hours ago.

more people have been arrested in the prince george county corruption case. all are accused of being involved in an untaxed liquor and cigarette smuggling sting. >> it's agreed that they would pay police officers in exchange for using their official authority to assist in the transport and distribution of untaxed cigarettes and alcohol. >> so far investigators are not elaborating on the connection between monday's arrest and friday's arrest other than to say they are related. the man arrested friday, jack johnson, reported to work as usual. he refused to discuss the charges against him. friday johnson said he would be vindicated. he is now wearing a court order electronic monitoring device. time for the latest your

side. with the light rains up and down, and up towards baltimore and down 95, but as we go south towards culpeper, this is where we're seeing heavier showers start to mix into the equation. but this is near madison. it is moving to the north and the east. give it about 30, 45 minutes to get up towards you and we will see the showers on and off today. you will see what is happening, the moisture continues to stream in from the southwest to the northeast. that first batch of rain from last night is up towards boston now. and this rain goes all the way down towards the gulf coast, so it will be with us for a while. the bus stop forecast this morning, as you can imagine, a wet one. scattered showers, kind of cool.

on the g.w. conditions. >> thank you. a judge reject as plea deal from a former pastor. tommy shelton is charged with sexually molesting two boys in the 1990s. he tried to cut a deal for probation and the judge said he should serve time if convicted. the alleged abuse happened when he was served at the head of the church. and people taken into custody were part of a group protesting the military's don't ask, don't tell policy for gay service members. that policy is currently being challenged in court. well, the redskins turned in a miserable performance last night. >> to say the least. >> but it came hours after the team announced a megaadeal with quarterback donovan mcnabb. find out how much he is getting paid next in sports. as we go to break at 5:19, here
