fault. two days down, jurors gear up for a third day of deliberation in the chandra levy murder trial. good cop or bad cop? prince george's county police officers turn out in force to support a colleague accused of corruption in the crack down. >> reporter: i'm scott broom at federal court in greenbelt where an accused police officer's family claims he is being thrown under the bus in a widening corruption scandal here in prince george's county. sergeant richard might be accused of being a corrupt cop, but he has not lost the support of a lot of his fellow police officers. hi brother was critical -- his brother was critical of the statements about the three officers caught up in the prince george's county corruption scandal. >> i'm upset at the chief of police throwing all three police officers under the bus, convicting them right in front of your cameras. >> reporter: last week, the scandal has made him sick to his stomach. he's one of three prince county george's officers accused of

untaxing cigarettes and alcohol for the owners of tick tock liquors, a scheme that prosecutors said included paying bribes to unnamed county officials. >> reporter: i'm bruce leshan at dc superior court. the jury has gone home for the night without a verdict in the chandra levy murder trial. about all we can tell you is that the the jurors appeared to still be getting along. there were huge long lines getting into the courthouse this morning because of the change of the security procedures. and some of the jurors were just a few rows back from me. they were all laughing and joking, and seemingly getting along. one could only assume that perhaps that's a sign that they have not gone into different blocks back there in the jury room. some courthouse observers say they may simply be going over the evidence. there is a ton, a ton of evidence in this case, and they might be going through the pictures, the testimonies are just simply analyzed. if we get a verdict, we'll

bring it to you just as quickly as we can, but it will not be tonight. they are due back here at 9:30 tomorrow. >> reporter: i'm surae chinn at the farragut north metro station where a ddot project is put on hold here in connecticut avenue after metro says crews drilled so far down it dislodged pieces of concrete. the large pieces of concrete narrowly missed hitting craig powell. >> we had some angels watching over us. >> reporter: he said he could hear the ddot workers jackhammering above on connecticut avenue when pieces of concrete fell through the ceiling of the farragut north metro tunnel. >> i mean, it was really loud and it was getting louder as they kind of worked their way down through the concrete until eventually they dislodged a chunk. >> reporter: metro says for once, the incident is not their fault. the rail systems blames the construction workers. meanwhile, powell says he has learned an important lesson about standing on the platform. >> if you don't hear the jackhammer directly over your head, you probably have nothing to worry about. >> reporter: and it turns out

this was not the first time that there have been some problems at farragut north. a chunk of metal fell from that ceiling back in 2004. fortunately no one hurt in that accident either. it did lead to a series of inspections of the ceiling anchors. in november of last year, inspectors found a 15-foot crack in the ceiling of that very same metro station. we also learned today of the 588 escalators in the metro system, 10% of them have recently had brake problems. in fact, 50 had major difficulties, 40 of them needed their brakes completely replaced. ten just had leaks, and 16 are out of service completely because they are waiting for new brake pads. dc council member, jim graham says there could have been 50 more incidents just like the one on october 30. that's when the brakes failed on an escalator, sending 16 people to the hospital. metro safety chair says that the agency will start doing monthly maintenance instead of

route 28, an accident there where the left lane was blocked off. there will be extra delays on that stretch. dulles toll road is quite slow east of hunter mill road. and a look the at beltway, pretty much slow from the dulles toll road all the way up to georgia avenue. also slow in the flip side out of it on university boulevard to i-270. back in virginia, a crash on the side, southbound, george washington parkway near 123. a car hit a pole there, but again, it's off to the side traffic gets by both ways now on the g.w. parkway. it will be a bit slow in both directions, that's all. congress has passed a bill aimed at encouraging workers, federal workers, to stay home and telecommute to their jobs, especialfully traffic-congested areas around here. republicans voted against that idea saying it would cause more money to implement and add another layer of federal bureaucracy. reporters said it would improve productivity and moral and take some cars off those congest highways. well today, republicans in the

house, they blocked the bill that would extend the jobless benefits for the long-term unemployed beyond the holiday season. and an extension of the jobless benefits enacted last summer is all set to expire the first of next month. that is unless it is renewed. if it's not, 2 million people will lose their benefits about two weeks before christmas. well, a typical fall day out there today, out on the terrace with a look at what tomorrow brings us. >> yeah, just a little breezy, but not windy like it was the past couple of days. let's start with the winds, gusting 16 miles per hour and 23 miles per hour wind gusts in leesburg. it will be breezy all night, not crazy. temperatures are 51 downtown. most folks in the 40s. 46 in frederick and 48 in leesburg. now, for tonight, clearing skies, breezy and cold. lows 34, about 42 downtown. and winds are northwesterly at 10 to 16. we'll talk about the real temperature roller coaster and take you on to the weekend and take a look ahead this wednesday with your travel day.

experience closer to those dc shoppers. armando trull reports a survey underwritten by wal-mart, finding it an overwhelming majorities. he has owned this barbershop for 30 years. >> i think the economy has hit everybody, especially the barbershops because people are going to put a turkey on the table before they get a haircut. >> reporter: that's why he welcomes wal-mart's position to open up a store just on the street. >> i think that it would be good for business coming to dc. i think that it would help the neighborhood, it should improve to bring more people towards this area that wouldn't normally come. >> reporter: putting more new wal-marts will be built in wards 5, 6, 7, meaning more jobs. >> about 1,200 new jobs, the majority of those will be full

in tonight's health alert, save a life in shanon's honor. that was the plea at howard university today as organizers looked for potential bone marrow donors. as anita brikman tells us, it was all organized by an alum who lost her little girl to leukemia. >> reporter: at the tender age of 11, shannon was already living her dream of making it on broadway.

she landed the part of nala in the line king production back in september of 2009. but only a few short months later, her mother noticed something just wasn't right. >> and then i noticed that she started becoming very fatigued. it wasn't normal, even though she had a hectic schedule. >> reporter: she was diagnosed with a deadly leukemia. >> she needed a bone harrow transplant or a cure. >> reporter: a donor was never found. and only a few weeks ago, shannon lost her battle. now her mom, a howard university alumni is keeping her daughter's legacy alive with a bone marrow drive. >> she gave me the drive. i just want to keep that going and alive. she was such a good girl. this is my goal, just to basically come out and start a foundation in her memory, and just get more people educated. >> reporter: and many people already heard her message.

mid-40s in the burbs. let's take a look at lows across the area. 35 in gaithersburg. 36 in rockville. the winds keep the temperatures up at night so doing a favor. 42 downtown, but 39 at college park. 37 in bowie. out to the west, plenty of 30s. 36 in fairfax and reston, 34 in leesburg, and 34 in manassas. now friday morning, mostly sunny with a cold start. grab your sunglasses and a light jacket. 30s and 40s. and then by the afternoon, mideastly sunny, a lit -- mostly sunny, a little chilly. low temperatures in the 50s. the winds turn southwesterly at about 10. that's a warmer wind that will actually help propel some warmer air in here on saturday. so the zone forecast, all six zones, still on our website, wusa9.com. again, in the 30s tomorrow in oakland, but 48 if many cumberland. 50 in winchester. and downtown, temperatures should make it to about 52 or 53. maybe 54 in annapolis. and the small craft advisory has expired about 10:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. next three days, 53 tomorrow.

chilly. and then 60s on saturday, nice. and then 52, chilly again on sunday. now the next seven days. on monday, we're looking at temperatures going back to the 60s. 65 on tuesday, some showers and rain develop late tuesday. travel day on wednesday. it looks wet. here in the metro area that looks wet. and it looks wet in the ohio valley. at least it is rain. temperatures in the 50s and then showers and rain early on turkey day and then maybe we end as the snowflake is on thanksgiving evening. all right, you remember the big severe weather that we had on tuesday night? hard to forget. okay. well, they will not investigate the wind damage, but they did up in baltimore and they have declared that the deal was a tornado that damaged some of the buildings. it was only about 175 yards rather wide. and it hit the parkway shopping center and this is damage. >> anybody see the frontal cloud up there? >> no, it was nice. it's just what happened at night. it damaged about 350 apartments out there. >> all right.
