in construction before next week's thanksgiving holiday. that could lead to backups on the beltway. it is all part of a decade long woodrow wilson bridge project. here is a live look at the beltway in alexandria. kristin fisher has suggestions from the construction zone on how you can avoid gridlock. >> it can get dicey. traffic can back up. >> reporter: vdot officials have a message, stay away from the outer loops of the capital beltway this weekend. starting at 8:00 friday night, all exit ramps will be shut down in between eisenhower avenue and telegraph road. >> this is one of the larger pieces. it is the last piece of the puzzle that completes this woodrow wilson corridor. >> reporter: what this means is that the road i'm walking on right now by monday morning will be the wantal beltway outer loop's brand new local lanes right here in alexandria.
12:02 pm
that's not before a lot of construction has to take place over the weekend. >> we have paving, striping. >> reporter: vdot crews will be working around the clock but will take all weekend to complete. the best alternative is to take route 1. it should be back to normal sunday night in time for the monday morning rush. kristin fisher, 9news now. a dramatic moments after a fire broke out in a northwest washington home. officials tell 9news now that firefighters responded to la ray place northwest, which is near park place before 9:00 this morning. flames engulfed the second floor of the home when crews arrived and a 93-year-old woman had to be rescued. >> the fire was on the second floor. right now, we're in the process of determining the cause and origin. then what we'll do is know more about the fire and what caused it after that. >> that woman who was rescued is listed in critical condition in a nearby hospital.

12:04 pm
procedures here. that's kind of held up some of the deliberation as well. but one exhort spokesman -- court spokesman tells us that it's not that unusual for a jury to take seven to ten days. these are careful jurors, well- educated jurors to make sure they are doing exactly the right thing as they do this. but i will also tell you that plenty of the attorneys down here will say to you that the weekend is an incentive, especially because it's a holiday weekend. thanksgiving's coming up. that's putting probably some pressure on some of the jurors to try and come forward with a decision. so a lot of the smart money at the courthouse suggests they might come up with a verdict this afternoon. that's sheer guesswork because of course it's secret and we have no idea what the heck they are doing back there. ingmar guandique is charged with two murder counts here. you may know more about this

12:06 pm
need to make repairs to the vehicle. >> this incident closed the southbound side of the parkway until 6:00 this morning. it was a slow morning commute on i-270 after a car burst into flames on the roadway. sky 9 captured the scene in gaithersburg on the southbound lanes of the interstate near route 124. montgomery county fire and rescue rushed to put out that smoky blaze. it closed down two lanes of the highway and the lanes were able to reopen a short time later. no one was injured in that incident. displaced victims are trying to heal right now after a fire ripped through their northwest washington building. late last night, fire officials rescued six people from a burning building on kennedy street northwest. they pulled at least two people out of windows and one person off the roof. d.c. fire and e.m.s.
